It’s rare to find a mobile game that doesn’t feel like a soulless cash grab. I’ve never written a review for an app before, but I felt this game deserved some credit. I really like the art style, and the gameplay is fun with a surprising amount of depth and strategy. It’s like a mix between a board game like chess and a TCG like MTG. There are microtransactions if you want to speed up your hero collection, but so far they haven’t felt necessary to the core gameplay. There are also ads in the store page that let you earn extra rewards, but they’re completely optional and do not disrupt gameplay. If you’re into TCGs or chess, I think you should definitely give this game a shot. ### 5/5 — 100% Recommend *2026-03-02* I don’t usually write reviews, but Spell Valley honestly hooked me. It’s a tile based strategy battle game where you go head-to-head against a single opponent. Every match feels like a chess match with abilities. Positioning matters. Timing matters. One bad move can cost you, but one smart play can completely flip the board. The heroes are what really set it apart. There’s a great variety to choose from, and they’re all genuinely unique. Each one has its own abilities and playstyle, so you’re not just picking a different skin — you’re picking a whole different strategy. And somehow, despite the diversity, the game feels extremely well balanced. No hero feels unfair or broken, which makes wins feel earned and losses feel like learning opportunities. It’s free to play, and it never feels pay-to-win. You can jump in, compete, and improve purely based on skill. On top of that, the community is very active, and the devs actually listen. You can tell they care about the players and are constantly tweaking and improving things based on feedback. That kind of responsiveness makes a huge difference. Overall, Spell Valley is one of the most polished and strategically satisfying mobile games I’ve played in a long time. If you enjoy tactical, head-to-head battles with real depth, this game is 100% worth downloading. ### 5/5 — Best game here! *2026-01-22, version 1.6.5* I really love this game. I’ve been playing it for a while and it really is one of the best mobile games I’ve ever played. So many things to love. 1. Great community with responsive game devs. The in game clans are designed around helping new players learn the game and obtaining new heroes. 2. Great core game loop. Building a team of five unique heroes then fighting another team, the basic matches are fast paced and fun. 3. Variety of ways to play. There’s an arena for public matches, a campaign that’s really incredible, friendly matches, local matches, 24 hour per turn matches. 4. None of the things that I hate about most mobile games. It’s not a money grab, it’s not pay to win, it’s not full of obnoxious ads, no time wasting nonsense. It’s not just button pushing, number get bigger, more button pushing. No endless upgrading, collecting widgets to unlock things, etc. If you are looking for a game with turn based combat, actual strategy with unique heroes, that’s great for long sessions or short bursts this is what you’re looking for. ### 1/5 — Don’t play this game *2026-01-19* The devs of this game have a combined brain cells of 1. Can’t even play this trash game as every player is a bot with level 5 cards. The devs don’t even play this trash why should anyone. The devs of this game have no clue what the hell makes a game fun. They are trying to be money hungry like they have a player base. This is the game that has come closest to scratching that “Hero Academy” itch, ever since the original classic was discontinued.
