Go to edit the list and then you can reset the list (which will clear the stars). ### 4/5 — Good *2020-04-13* There are NO instructions on how to use the app! The hint feature shows the word, which is not a hint, it's simply the answer. Would like to be able to shut off "hint" feature. **Developer response:** The hint is designed for frustration-free practice. As you noted, this is a practice app, not a testing app, so we want students to be able to hear and see the word as much as possible. Turning off the "hint" feature would lead to frustration during the mastery practice cycle. How on earth can they spell the word if they can’t hear it?! ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2024-10-28* There is no way to adjust the volume within the app and even with the volume on my phone turned ALL of he way up, we could not hear the words. The importing feature should be working correctly now. ### 1/5 — No keyboard support *2019-09-24* We purchased a hand writing recognition keyboard just for this app however this app does not allow you to use anything but the standard keyboard on the iPad. No idea why they would do that. It is way too hard for a kid to hunt and peck for the letters. I got an iPhone XR and now it gives me a microphone error and shuts down the app when I try to record. Please fix, we need it! **Developer response:** Do you still have this issue? Thank you for your review. ### 1/5 — Faulty app, often says words are misspelled. *2017-10-23, version 1.1.5* I have carefully input more than a few spelling lists, and a handful of words always come up that they are spelled wrong, when they are spelled correctly. You can catch a sneak peek of the word and see how it’s spelled, enter it, and be told it’s wrong. My children practice their spelling words INDEPENDENTLY throughout the week with the Spelling Star app. They now come home after the test with a 100% each and every week. Spelling word practice is completely stress free in our home with this app. That was NOT the case when we, as parents, practiced with our children throughout the week (before learning about this app). **Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your review! My 6th grader usually doesn't have a problem with subjects in school. But spelling is difficult. In just two days of study with the app, he can spell all the words on the list. In fact, yesterday afternoon I asked him to go over the words once and he said that he went through the list until he had 3 stars on each! I like that I can record a sentence to go with each word, or even a definition. And the ability to import a list makes it easy to switch between devices for review. You can share the list with a class, which makes it great for teachers. It makes a positive sound when you've spelled the word correctly which is positive reenforcement. You can reset the list after the child has spelled each word correctly after 3 times. It's great to take on the go, my son does his spelling words in the car or at my other son's soccer practice. It's a great way to get your kid excited about spelling. We use it weekly and my son does get 100% on his spelling about 98% of the time. We love it!! ### 5/5 — This is Great! *2016-01-12, version 1.1.5* This is a wonderful app. The user interface is clean and uncluttered, it's easy to use, and most importantly intuitive. I can add my son’s spelling list by saying and spelling each word. I can add words to an existing list, I can reset his score (which also allows for easy testing of your entries), and create multiple lists. My son doesn’t like Spelling because it doesn’t come easy to him, but he DOES like electronic gadgets.
