## What is Spike Tape?

Spike Tape is five field calculators for stage electricians. Numbers in, numbers out, easy to read in a dark theatre, and built to be checked against a hand-worked number rather than trusted on faith.

LOAD — watts and amps per circuit, with the 80% continuous-load rule applied automatically. Balance a rig across three phases by circuit or by fixture, and see the neutral current floor for non-linear (dimmer, LED) loads.

DMX — addressing and patch runs across universes, with both DIP-switch conventions ("all off = 1" and "switch 1 = 1"), because fixtures disagree about which one they use.

NETWORK — subnetting and address-planning for a lighting network. This screen plans a network; it never touches one. The app has no networking code.

COLOR — mired shift and gel-cutting math for correcting one color temperature to another.

BEAM — beam diameter and field diameter at a given throw, or work backwards from a target coverage size to the angle (and real fixtures either side of it) that will produce it.

No accounts, no sign-in, nothing saved to a server — the only thing remembered between launches is your light/dark appearance choice. Every screen has its own reset control. Built offline-first for a tech table or a booth with no signal.

## Version history (last 2 releases)

### 2.2 — 2026-09-25

BEAM
• Lens presets are now named by their angle — 5°, 10°, 14°, 19°, 26°, 36°, 50°, 70° and 90° — instead of barrel names like 6×9. The numbers haven't changed: a 6×9 was always 36°.

GEL CUTTING
• A square frame now takes one measurement instead of the same number twice, with 6.25" and 7.5" a tap away. Rectangle is still there for frames that aren't square, and switching between them keeps what you typed.
• In centimetres, the frame and sheet sizes are the ones catalogues actually print — 15.9 and 19 cm frames, a 50 × 60 cm sheet — rather than converted inch figures.

EVERYWHERE
• Every option chip is the same size, and a row that can't fit its chips wraps instead of cutting them off.
