### 3/5 — Graphics a little small

*2018-12-18*

Nice concept and simple interface. However I found the graphics to not really be optimized for mobile viewing. Size of charts needs to be bumped and try to display less break info on one each page/screen. I’m fine with navigating through pages but not with squinting.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2017-05-18*

Easy to use. Great interface. Simple and easy to learn not cluttered like other apps. I use it for surf fishing. Keep it updated

### 5/5 — Excellent updates! Great app!

*2017-01-21*

The most recent update is fantastic! Added in more graphs to include size, wind and tide. Easy to scroll through and more accurate than most other surf apps. Thank you for listening to your customers and continuing to improve!!!

### 4/5 — The best and most accurate again.

*2016-11-18, version 2.3*

Well done chaps.

Tap to see size is unnecessary but it works fine.

### 4/5 — Simple

*2014-11-06, version 1.3*

Pretty basic overview. No frills. Decent reports without any details.

### 4/5 — Good reports!

*2014-07-06*

I used the website and found out there was an app and I think it's great for on the go surf reports. Pretty accurate as well. Keep it up!!!

### 5/5 — Better than Surfline.

*2013-07-06, version 1.1*

Easily and every time. Seriously. The forecasts are killer.

### 4/5 — No search option

*2013-06-25*

Site has good info for certain pre programmed areas but you cannot search for a specific area.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Forecasts are bad, bait and switch, charts unreadable

*2025-02-11*

The forecasts are bad like off by several feet compared to actual conditions. Or the wind speed will be off by like 20 mph. It claims that it will always be free, but after a week, it started nagging me to sign up for premium, and the app stopped working. A lot of the charts have a fixed Y axis, and so the data exceeds the axis and is unlabeled completely

**Developer response:** Thanks for the candid feedback. I released a new version about a week ago. I encourage you to give it a look and let me know what you think. Best, Jack

### 1/5 — Poor color choice

*2020-08-14*

Dark mode is impossible to read. Color contrast is not accessible. Give us the option to change colors.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. I love this idea. I’ll add it to the next version. Best, Jack

### 1/5 — It used to be great

*2016-11-28, version 2.4*

First, I have really appreciated your app. Bummed the graphics changed to bars and also that it no longer indicates a prediction for the course of one day. Also I can't see any explanation for orange vs. gray bars .. am I missing something?

### 1/5 — What the heck

*2016-11-08, version 2.1*

New UI is terrible. Bring back the old GUI! This was my favorite app!

### 1/5 — Must be on the coast to work.

*2013-04-12, version 1.0*

Love Spitcast
Hate the app

### 2/5 — Usually wrong

*2020-08-06*

Rarely ever correct. Conditions, water temp, etc... usually incorrect. Not sure if it’s not being updated frequently enough or what.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. Please reach out and let me know where you are specifically seeing issues and I'll be happy to take a look. I use this app daily and haven't run into this type of issue before. Best, Jack

### 2/5 — Water temps ??

*2020-06-11*

There are no ocean water temps for SOCAL !

**Developer response:** Thanks for the heads up. The issue has been corrected. You should now see water temps in the app. Best, Jack

### 2/5 — Website vs app

*2020-02-16*

You don’t show swell direction, nor the hourly specs when you used to be able to touch the time line. Then a pop up would give info. Liked the website better than the app. I hope you tweak the app a bit to work more like the website. I’ve been using Spitcast for 2-3 years. Thank you for listening and letting me see when and where to get barreled.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. I updated the swell charts to display swell direction. Best, Jack

### 3/5 — No in-app explanation of symbols

*2020-12-07*

What do the circles mean? And for % of the month, I have no idea what those letters mean.

**Developer response:** Thanks for leaving a review. There are a couple different circles in the app, so I'll try to explain both.

The first are the regional summaries, which look like a string of beads. These summarize the conditions at a group of neighboring surf spots, providing a glanceable look at the conditions in a region. I use these to get a sense for conditions throughout the state without having to look at every single forecast. (BTW: These get more powerful when you dial in your height settings.).

The second type of circles are the big grey hollow ones that sometimes show up on surf forecasts. These indicate when conditions at a break are unusually good. This week you are likely to see a lot of these, since there is a good swell, but that's not always going to be the case. Like in much of summer.

Regarding "% of the month", the letter indicates the month of the year. J for January, F for February, etc...

I hope this helps clarify these.

Best,
Jack

### 3/5 — Good but...

*2020-01-29*

I miss the website version as this app is less complete in offering the many surf locations its counterpart offered. Oh well - back to Surfline...

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review. Yes, I think that's a fair concern. The app actually has more spots than the website did, but by default the only forecasts displayed are those with Fair+ surf within the next week. You can find your other surf spots by using the search option, and choosing to save them. Then these forecasts will always appear. I'll look into how I can make this clearer in the next version. Best, Jack

### 5/5 — Great California Coast App

*2022-04-23*

I’ve been experimenting with the various free and less expensive apps since I decided to simplify my recurring subscription charges to too many services.

I really appreciate the fundamental data that’s reported on Spitcast, and though I have not sat down and charted a direct comparison between this and the National Weather Service’s and NOAA’s Northern California data and forecasts, this has seemed like an accurate amalgamation of what a surfer wants to know. Naturally there will be spots like Ocean Beach San Francisco where/ when it should be good, it’s too wonky because the night winds the night before ruined it, even if it’s light wind the next morning. But I think these are the variables we get to learn through experience. I mean, an app only needs to spoon feed so much.

Also I appreciate the data for some specific spots that don’t get as much attention in this regard. On this app, I don’t feel like it’s ruining anything.

The circles took me a second to figure out, but it’s pretty intuitively obvious that the app is focusing our attention on good surf conditions (vs, I guess, mediocre or bad ones).

I plan on adding this high value, low cost app as a subscription in my new streamlined suite of similar high value, reasonably priced apps.

Shakaz.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review!
