You play a solid to rounds and then there’s a random at that takes 5 minutes. It takes so damn long, you think the progress froze on top of the ad. You spend more time watching ads that you have no interest than you do actually playing the game. ### 2/5 — New ads *2026-07-04* The acrostic puzzle used to be free everyday. Now you have to subscribe or watch a long ad to play a short game. ### 3/5 — Too Much Paid Items *2026-06-04, version 1.1.5* Great app BUT there are adverts everywhere! They made my very favourite feature, the acrostic archive, a paid subscription… I think that has officially ruined the app for me… If it stays this way, it may be okay for first time users but it has gone down hill for older ones! ### 3/5 — OG players will be disappointed *2026-05-06* If you’re brand new to Sporcle, you might enjoy this. But having played it for a long time, 10 plus years, it’s morphed into something different, and it feels like it’s sold out a bit. There’s now a heavy reliance on multiple choice format, whereas you used to largely have to know the answers and type them in. A lot of old timer, pause and hint features disappeared, effectively reducing the user experience somewhat. Feels like there’s a heavy bias towards American cultural content which excludes international users. I don’t feel the newer format is as much fun, the performance comments aren’t funny or necessary , the questions are dumbed down, ads are frequent so as to feel disruptive but the subscription price point for removing them is too high. It’s just not as enjoyable or addictive as old school Sporcle was. If you’re an avid quizzer, or returning old school app user, prepare to feel the mighty meh. ### 2/5 — Ads are insane *2026-04-28, version 1.1.5* The number of the ads is not an issue. The issue is that they’re unscippable minute long ones. Absolutely makes this app not usable. I get waiting a few seconds for a dumb ad but waiting a minute is crazy. Thought it might be fun to play on my phone, but ads after literally every single quiz gets exhausting pretty quick. I understand that’s how these sites make money to stay active but it gets to a point you know. This will make ppl more inclined to use the app bc they can see their streak number in big bold letters on their homescreens. (2), the app/website is very overstimulating. There’s too much to click on. It should also be easier to find and access ur playlists. ### 2/5 — Solid but no offline play *2026-02-20, version 1.1.4* The app is alright, a lot of fun quizzes but from everything im seeing in the app/online they removed the ability to download quizzes for offline use ### 2/5 — Ruined with ads *2026-01-20, version 1.1.4* The old mobile app was superb. The newer version removed features that are invaluable on phones, like fat finger fix. Also, all quizzes are available, including those that are completely impossible on a mobile phone. Finally, it’s infested with ads in much the same way the website is. Oh, and every time it runs an ad for CandyCrush, it bricks the app and you have to restart it. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Ads *2026-05-28, version 1.1.5* I would have rated this 5 stars until they started running ads even for those of us who already PAY for the app. Way to let your greed ruin the experience for long-time subscribers. I will be unsubscribing and uninstalling the app. It isn’t worth it anymore. ### 1/5 — Terrible *2026-05-27, version 1.1.5* This app is terrible…. I am pretty sure this app has been untouched since initial release. The fact they want your money to go add free is horrendous. When doing quizzes it is very clunky and glitchy. Also, it shoots you across the screen when answering something to show that answer. I don’t need more confirmation that what I put is correct, when the text goes away for a correct answer, and sits there if incorrect. Im trying to name obscure MLB All Stars from the 2010s and the thing glitching around everywhere dragging you to the top stronger the gravitational pull of your fat aunt. In the past I would have said the app was great, but in a recent update they changed it so the buttons to quit a quiz or spend in-app currency to extend your time randomly swap places. This is clearly a predatory change to trick people used to a consistent interface into accidentally spending their in-app currency. until this is fixed, I can’t recommend the app. ### 1/5 — Frankly my dear you don’t know the movie quotes *2026-01-09* I have been a movie buff for decades now and I have never seen a person show their ignorance about movie more happily about their time. Sort of believing that you’re taking the Mickey I have to assume that you don’t know you’re wrong. It hasn’t helped a lot in my life but I’ve probably got a few free meals from winning pub trivia so that’s a win. I could probably learn flags and capital cities but my brain is reaching its limit. Sporcle on sporcklers, someone somewhere will appreciate you knowing the capital of Kiribati and its correct pronunciatio, or how to spell Kyrgyzstan and Liechtenstein. ### 5/5 — Addicted! *2026-06-20, version 1.1.5* Best, best, best trivia app... so many ways to play--and no bots forced down your throat.
