## What is SportFax?

Sport, the old-fashioned way.

SportFax brings live football, cricket, rugby union, NFL, Formula 1, snooker and racing to your phone in the style of Ceefax and teletext — bold colour on a black screen, page numbers, the fastext bar along the bottom.

No timelines, no autoplay video, no adverts, no tracking. Just the scores, laid out the way they were before everything got noisy.

Turn to a page and it's there:

FOOTBALL
• Live scores as they happen
• Results, fixtures and league tables
• A proper vidiprinter, ticking over goal by goal
• Headlines from the Guardian

CRICKET
• Live scores, ball by ball
• Fixtures, tables and results
• Batting and bowling averages

RUGBY UNION
• Live scores from the Premiership, the URC, the Top 14 and the Champions Cup
• The Six Nations, the Nations Championship and the autumn internationals
• Team pages, tables and fixtures

NFL
• Live scores, standings and fixtures
• A page for every team

PLUS FORMULA 1, SNOOKER and RACING

FOLLOW YOUR TEAMS
• Star the clubs and countries you care about across football, cricket, rugby and NFL
• Filter tables and results down to just your teams
• Saved on your device — no account, no tracking

AND, BECAUSE WHY NOT
• Games on page 700 — QuizFax, Spot Kick, Starting XI, Darts and more, with a weekly leaderboard
• Put your name on the board — set a GAME NAME and your scores show up top

Tap the page number to jump straight to a page, just like typing it on the remote. Swipe, or use the coloured fastext buttons, to move around. Live pages refresh themselves. Lost signal on the train? SportFax keeps showing you the last scores it had, with the time they were from — it never leaves you staring at a blank screen.

Free. No adverts. No account. No tracking.

I grew up checking the football and cricket scores on Ceefax — punching in the page number and waiting for it to cycle back round. SportFax is that, rebuilt: live sport the old-fashioned way, calmer and quieter than everything else on your phone.

No clutter, nothing chasing your attention. Just the scores, the way they used to be.

### 5/5 — Welcome back, Ceefax

*2026-08-26*

Wonderful to read the scores in the same way many of us grew up with, including waiting for the pages to change (you can skip this, but for the real effect you shouldn’t). Top notch app.

### 5/5 — Just perfect

*2026-08-26*

This app has everything you’d want for sports coverage. The added games are a bonus too. Bring back Ceefax .. or just download this app!

### 5/5 — Nostalgia Hit

*2026-08-26*

Incredible app. Sports coverage like it should be, simple and effective and a nostalgia hit back to my childhood. It looks great on landscape iPad too, with the added TV effects. Seriously good work!

### 5/5 — Back to the good old days

*2026-08-24*

I was brought in by the nostalgic vibe of this app, but the speed, simplicity and intuitive navigation has quickly made this my go to for keeping an eye on the football results. Brilliant app.

### 5/5 — Amazing App for Footy Results & More

*2026-08-24*

The app is great! I've wanted something that is easy to use to check live sports results and not get hit with cookie warnings every time I check results. Not only do you not get this with SportFax you get the nostalgia of checking the live scores on Ceefax like the old days! I also love the On This Day section. It's first class, highly recommended!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.9.3 — 2026-10-05

THE GAMES LOOK LIKE SPORTFAX

Every game's chrome is now on the teletext palette, with the gameplay itself deliberately left alone. All seven leaderboards moved onto one shared table: tighter rows, numeric headers aligned over their numbers, no bold anywhere, and the boards now fill the page instead of stopping four rows short. BACK sits top-left on every board, where the rest of SportFax puts it.

SUPERSTARS has been rebuilt. It was the one page that had never been made to match the site — its header was 15px against every other game's 22px, which is why it looked fine on a desktop and wrong on a phone. The trophy is now sized to the word beside it, LIVES sits under the tabs, and the life pips are hard-edged blocks. Teletext never had round dots.

NEW: ENDZONE EIGHT

A fourth predictor, covering eight games of the NFL week rather than all fifteen.

SPORTFAX DAILY

- Answers now reveal a full name — DAVID NUGENT, not NUGENT. Typing the surname alone is still correct and always will be.
- HIGHER OR LOWER plays all ten cards instead of stopping at your first wrong call, and your streak is on screen: the pip that ended it outlined, everything after it dimmed.
- CAREER PATH advances again. NEXT CLUE was re-buying the first clue and redrawing the same club, for a point.
- One guess per clue now really means one. Banking clues was quietly banking guesses with it.
- A picked CONNECTIONS tile now inverts rather than only changing colour, and the Daily pages lost a phantom row that was eating space at the bottom.

FOOTBALL

Nations League fixtures print D1 MD 3 rather than D MD 3 and order A1-A4, B1-B4, instead of reading LEAG fourteen times. An international friendly no longer shows a star and an aggregate win. A team we have no record of no longer crashes the page with no way back.

ELSEWHERE

F1 was printing two race weekends as one. A news headline sometimes opened a different story. The predictor opens on a week that has actually happened, cricket explains itself when the slate is quiet, and SAVE PICKS is legible.

### 1.9.2 — 2026-09-24

Bug fixes to newly released feature Sportfax Daily

### 1.9.1 — 2026-09-24

Fixes SPORTFAX DAILY offering you a puzzle you had already finished.

Your result is now kept properly on the device, and if the app ever loses track of it, it asks the server instead of starting you again.

Also: a tidier scoreboard, and the archive reads correctly before the first puzzle of the day.

### 1.9 — 2026-09-23

SPORTFAX DAILY — P720
A new puzzle every day, one for football and one for cricket, in seven formats:

WHO AM I? — five clues, worth less as you use them
THE LINK — four names, one thing in common
CONNECTIONS — twelve names, four groups
HIGHER OR LOWER — one number at a time
THE YEAR — when did this happen?
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? — the moment before the moment
THE SCORECARD / CAREER PATH — read the card, name the player

Puzzles land at midnight and keep a streak. P723 holds every past one to play at your own pace, P724 the scoreboard.

WHAT'S ON TV — P395
UK sport by day, grouped by competition rather than thrown in a list, eight days ahead.

ON THIS DAY
Now prints in Bedstead, the face Ceefax was actually drawn with, instead of quietly falling back to the site's ordinary type. Formula 1 has joined it — spin back to Silverstone in 1950 — and the cricket summary takes the live scorecard's shape.

SHORT NAMES, PROPERLY
Clubs across football, cricket, rugby, the NFL and the IPL now have short forms chosen rather than guessed. Both Manchester clubs no longer print MAN in the same women's fixture, and New York City against New England is no longer NEW v NEW.

ALSO
Darts hold one speed through the bounce, and the board stops shifting under your finger.
The men's and women's tabs sit where they belong on the cricket pages.
Rugby refuses a stale table instead of printing it with a footnote, and stops calling November's fixtures the last seven match days.
The home page and the puzzle screens lay out for the phone they are on, rather than the one they were designed on.

No adverts, no cookies, no account. Still just the scores.

### 1.8 — 2026-09-17

THE NFL VIDIPRINTER — P419
Every score, touchdown, field goal and turnover as it lands, in the order it landed. The same rolling feed the football and cricket pages have had, now for the NFL, and reachable straight from the hub on P410.

FORMULA 1 JOINS ON THIS DAY
Spin the reel back to Silverstone in May 1950 and forward through seventy-five seasons. Every race lists the whole field rather than the podium, in the same rows the live F1 pages use — DNF in red where a car retired.

ON THIS DAY, PROPERLY
Two things. The page now renders in the Ceefax face it was always meant to have; in the app it had quietly fallen back to the site's ordinary typeface. And it no longer loses the last result off the bottom of the screen — a page whose headlines all ran to two lines had thirteen pixels less room than anything was counting on.

ALSO
SUPERSTARS on P711 keeps a leaderboard that runs to more than one page, and its difficulty now follows the rung rather than the game.
Live NFL quarters render green on P411, which they never once did.
International football has its own section, with the Nations League groups in the order a reader expects.
The section rows at the top of each index have been reworked, and the desktop layout tidied.

No adverts, no cookies, no account. Still just the scores.
