### 3/5 — It could be great

*2026-08-31, version 1.8.12*

I love the app but the developer has a really bad communication problem.

The videos explaining or showing the exercises could be exponentially better.

This app has the potential to be amazing but they really need to listen to the users.

### 3/5 — Friendly but annoying in lack of features.

*2026-07-10, version 1.8.12*

The folks that run this are real responsive and nice but the AI needs me to do so much with keeping track of my workouts (it can’t access the memory of the workouts it creates - you have to upload them yourself if you have any questions about them) that it saves me time yo just manage things on my own great if you have no knowledge and don’t want to develop any and just be taken care of. If you have directions you’d like to steer your training, a different app would be a better option

### 4/5 — Amazing app

*2026-06-30, version 1.8.12*

Love it. It’s fantastic. I’ve got a post grad degree in exercise science. Has made programming a breeze. I can tweak it where I disagree. But it creates great programs.

The only thing I don’t like is that you have to program training days, rather than say a set rest period such as 48-72 hours. So it gets a bit clunky when you delay a session for a day

### 4/5 — Great App that needs a pdf download of individual workouts

*2026-05-16, version 1.8.10*

Great App that needs a pdf download of individual workouts or date range of workouts. The text data dump is not very useful. Would love a pdf or excel with the workout results so I can track my progress.
You also should be able to have more than one program running at once. Especially if you’re going to change programs. Now if you start a nee program, it removes your current one. Other than that, I love the app.

### 4/5 — Needs Apple Watch App

*2026-05-09, version 1.8.9*

I really like Spotr to track my workouts, but I keep going back to Hevy for the sole reason that I don’t want to keep pulling my phone in and out of my pockets to mark sets complete. Give me Apple Watch functionality similar to Hevy’s and you’ve got me for good.

### 3/5 — It has promise

*2026-05-05, version 1.8.9*

I have tried this app for a few months now and it works well when it works, it is getting increasingly frustrating as the AI gets it wrong to many times and then suggests I manually edit, this defeats the point of the app.
Customer support are quick to answer.
I have asked Apple for a refund. I’m sad about it because I really wanted it to work.

### 2/5 — Need a trial before I commit

*2026-04-30, version 1.8.8*

Like the idea, but I’m not gonna purchase it without trying

### 2/5 — Promising App, but Needs a Trial Period

*2026-04-28, version 1.8.8*

The app shows a lot of promise and the ads definitely caught my attention. However, it is hard to commit to a full yearly subscription without testing it first. If the developers want people to really buy into the experience, they should offer a trial period instead of requiring a full year's payment upfront.

I will change my rating once the option opens up.

### 2/5 — Workout guidance needs improvement

*2026-04-23, version 1.8.7*

Just starting out using this app. Would really love if there was more guidance for each of the workouts- the images dont always help guide you with form. Would be great to understand form and target muscles

### 2/5 — No free trial

*2026-04-21, version 1.8.7*

Sorry but you can’t expect people to fork out for the year without knowing anything about it or trying it first for a week. And the month by month price is just a laugh. The promise of a goodwill refund if not satisfied within 14 days is just not enough. Have you seen the amount of reviews for apps in this App Store where people struggle to get promised refunds?

### 4/5 — Overall great

*2026-04-20, version 1.8.7*

Overall the app is great and I am now using this one after trying several others. It’s currently more geared towards people that know what they are doing in the gym like myself rather than people just starting out. Personally, I really wish the app had built in macro tracking and nutrition info. If it had that and the ability to ask for recipes and have them automatically added to your library then the ability to track all macros, it would be a game changer.

### 4/5 — Great App that needs a pdf download of individual workouts

*2026-04-18*

Great App that needs a pdf download of individual workouts or date range of workouts. The text data dump is not very useful. Would love a pdf or excel with the workout results so I can track my progress.
You also should be able to have more than one program running at once. Especially if you’re going to change programs. Now if you start a nee program, it removes your current one. Other than that, I love the app.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback and support! We will work on adding more export options and providing more flexibility with programs!

### 4/5 — Neat idea, couldn’t try it out

*2026-04-13, version 1.8.7*

It’s basically ChatGPT (which is arguably the worse AI model since it wants to agree with what you’re doing) logging your workout. Unfortunately I couldn’t even try it before they wanted a monthly commitment. I love using Coros workout app for the heat map aspect, and thought this would bridge that gap with Garmin. Too bad I can’t confirm.

### 3/5 — Meh

*2026-03-28, version 1.8.1*

Right now it’s meh. I’ve paid for a year, so I guess I’m cooked. The AI feature is buggy to say the least, lots of trouble updating a routine.

The app writes a workout but not active calories to Apple health. So … if you’re stat tracking it’s lacking.

### 4/5 — Great app…BUT

*2026-03-07, version 1.7.3*

Wish it were easier to incorporate cardio functions. I may do an outdoor walk and it’s not an option. Customizing exercises has been good. Also wish there was a 5 second warning before rest time is up

### 2/5 — Not even close

*2026-02-26, version 1.7.0*

Probably one of the more frustrating workout apps I’ve tried. Many other apps are intuitive. Not Spotr. The idea of a superset, for example, seems oddly to escape the app’s function. Just marking exercises within a superset does not handle them as such. I’m not certain what it does, actually. Many other frustrating elements: often will not remember or recall what your last weight/rep settings were as the “previous” column will be left blank. Suggested weight increases don’t seem to happen at all (so much for the AI-assisted “coach”). Previous effort settings will very often be erased/dropped from view.

Right now, there are better workout apps out there. I’d give Spotr maybe another 6 months of development and see if improvements are made. But for me, it’s often a frustrating app.

### 3/5 — It’s ok. Nothing amazing

*2026-02-22, version 1.7.0*

I have been lifting since high school. This app is very pricey for what you get with out a free trial. I paid for one month bc of the AI buzz words. Honestly I found hevy does the same thing and it’s free. It just doesn’t write work out schedules or a routine for you. Which you can find one online for free. Not worth 20 bucks a month.

### 4/5 — Great app! Still missing key features

*2026-02-21, version 1.7.0*

The app is very well made and pretty easy to use. Wish there was an Apple Watch integration . Most of the other fitness apps have this so I would have thought this did too.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Garbage App

*2026-06-29, version 1.8.12*

It works great for the first week. Second week, all the sets and weights I did from last week gets all switched up and follows lowers weights and random reps.. Super frustrating. Had this app for months and kept giving it a try and does the same thing every time. Better off using my notes app to track my workouts..

### 1/5 — Jack

*2026-06-25, version 1.8.12*

It had good potential but in its current form it is unworkable. The AI consistently gets it wrong and doesn’t seem to be improving. Many other apps on the market for a similar price that currently do it better.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2026-06-15, version 1.8.12*

Honestly super annoying to use and the functionality is not great. You can't record workouts retroactively and the exercise list is incomplete. The AI program builder is just ChatGPT garbage. Do not recommend.

### 1/5 — Trial is pay first

*2026-04-20, version 1.8.7*

these kind of apps need a free trial, similar to Runna. Not willing to pay for something without having tried it first.

### 1/5 — Spotr is an AI fitness app that cannot handle basic programming.

*2026-03-12*

If your training plan is the same exact week on repeat forever, this app may be enough. If you want even mildly structured programming, its limitations show immediately. It cannot run a real alternating schedule, cannot rotate sessions properly, cannot manage week-to-week accessory variation, and cannot support a true phased plan the way many people actually train.

The AI gives the impression that the app is flexible, but the actual scheduling system is extremely rigid.
That disconnect is frustrating. It is basically a fixed calendar pretending to be a smart coach.

For a workout app built around AI, it should be able to handle far more than this.

No real alternating weeks. No true rolling schedules. No proper weekly exercise variation. No meaningful phased structure. Just one repeating 7-day template dressed up as something smarter.

That is not intelligent coaching. That is a calendar.

Very disappointing.

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your feedback. Spotr already supports personalized programming, progression, and adaptation for a wide range of lifters, but we’re also continuing to expand the kinds of training structures the app can support over time. Some of the advanced scheduling features you mentioned are things we’re actively working on, and feedback like this helps us prioritize where to go next. Appreciate you trying Spotr.

### 1/5 — Requires payment

*2026-01-30, version 1.6.5*

Imagine having to pay to even see if you like the app. I get that tokens are used to generate the workouts but perhaps allow us to manually try it out and understand the UI before committing to a payment. No one’s going to go on the help page to get a refund.

### 1/5 — Don't recommend

*2026-01-29, version 1.6.5*

The AI is not as responsive as it could be. When you ask a question, it tends to not no one answer and claims "poor connection. " overall decent app, but I'm sure there's better out there for the price.

### 1/5 — BEWARE

*2026-01-11, version 1.6.3*

BEWARE: This app will offer you a free 3 day trial, not offer ANY way to cancel, and auto charge your credit card! It gave me a notification to subscribe to a 3 day free trial, when I hit subscribe it said $0.00 was charged. I then went to subscriptions, and no subscription was shown, so figured they would follow up about payment after 3 days. NOPE! They auto charged me without even a way to cancel! How is that allowed by the App Store? No way it is.

### 1/5 — More upfront about costs

*2026-01-11, version 1.6.3*

The onboarding takes like 15 min, once you are about to generate a workout it asks you to pay.

### 1/5 — complete broken not worth it

*2026-01-09, version 1.6.3*

the app hits you with a paywall and is generally so ugly. on top of that they ask a ridiculous price for the little value they provide

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very happy

*2026-05-28, version 1.8.12*

These developers should be very happy with what they’ve created. I’m in my 10th week now. I’m so happy with the results. I love how I can track all my progress and recovery with charts and visuals. I’m finally taking mirror selfies again. I didn’t think this was achievable, and I’ve been struggling for years. I highly recommend this app to everyone that’s complimented me.

### 5/5 — Impressive and effective

*2026-05-02, version 1.8.9*

super impressed with spotr after a few weeks of having it. i was previously using chatGPT to generate my workouts, but gave this a try because i hate having to type it all into a tracker after. spotr 1) generates the same or better workouts 2) loads it into the tracker for me 3) anything i add on i can dictate w voice so i don’t get lazy with typing. keeps me on track, get the app!

### 5/5 — Genius

*2026-03-25, version 1.7.9*

Great way to navigate the gym after college athletics. I’m so used to having a trainer guiding me and now once again I do

### 5/5 — Fabulous experience

*2026-03-21, version 1.7.8*

I have a couple minor physical limitations due to past injuries and Spotr has adjusted lifts based on my feedback about what hurts and doesn’t, pushed me to go up in weight past what i thought I could do, and has created a routine that fits into my schedule. For a fraction of the price I have a personal trainer, and it’s on my phone. Could not love it more!

### 5/5 — attention to detail is awesome!

*2026-03-17, version 1.7.5*

onboarding experience makes it super easy to tailor your experience!! the creators make the app motivating and make strength training exciting again

### 5/5 — Highly recommend!

*2026-02-28, version 1.7.2*

Love that Spotr lets me geek out with nuances for training and then makes it into an actionable workout it tracks.

### 5/5 — New but amazing

*2026-02-20, version 1.7.0*

It seems just what I was looking for. I’ve already asked for and gotten mods on the fly. I can move workouts during the week to suit my travel schedule. And the chat saves me toggling back and forth to Chat. So far it’s a win-win

### 5/5 — Motivating

*2026-02-11, version 1.6.9*

I’ve been using this for a month now and absolutely love the app. Prior to this I could never keep track of what I was lifting the workout prior to continue muscle growth without over pushing and I also didn’t have much direction when I went to the gym. I’d just do whatever workouts I felt like doing. This helps give week over week insights so I can easily see my progress. The AI feature also makes it easy to tweak workouts if something isn’t working for you. Definitely motivating me to keep hitting the gym!

### 5/5 — Spotr is literally the best in the game. I’m shocked it’s not as widely known

*2026-01-12, version 1.6.3*

I got on this app purely because I saw an ad on YouTube shorts and the co founder intrigued me then I read their story about Harvard and this app and decided to see what this app was. Then what.. it’s about fitness and I’m in my journey now- no better app because of voice configuration. 🐐

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-01-07, version 1.6.2*

Couldn’t workout without it
