## What is Sprout?

Sprout was conceived, designed, and developed by Heeva Alavi, a 17-year-old student developer. Sprout is a fun nutrition tracker for teens and adults who want to better understand their food choices, build healthier habits, and learn which foods are linked to cancer risk. You can use all of the features without even creating an account!

LOG FOOD YOUR WAY
• Take a picture of your food and AI will identify everything, OR
• Add foods manually with flexible serving and food-group details, OR
• Type or voice-enter the description of your food and AI will figure it out.
• Use AI or don’t–completely up to you!

YOUR PET HELPS YOU BUILD HEALTHIER HABITS
• Care for a virtual Sprout pet as you keep logging and building routines.
• Follow daily food-group goals and view progress over time.
• Personalize dietary preferences, cuisines, and notification settings.
• Create an account to securely save and access your food log, preferences, and settings.

UNDERSTAND FOOD-CATEGORY EVIDENCE
• See clear indicators when a logged food matches a supported food category associated with increased cancer risk.
• Open food details to review the matched category, explanation, and evidence-source links.
• Sprout uses a bundled, versioned evidence catalog and deterministic matching rules for these indicators—not an AI-generated cancer classification.

PRIVACY AND CONTROL
• Choose whether to enable optional AI food analysis.
• Change your AI choice later in Privacy & AI settings.
• Delete individual food entries or permanently delete your account in the app.
• Sprout does not display third-party advertising or track you across apps and websites.
• Use every feature without providing a name, email address, or password.

IMPORTANT
Sprout provides educational nutrition information. Food-category indicators describe general evidence about categories and do not predict personal cancer risk or quantify how much an individual food changes that risk. Category matches can be wrong, especially for homemade or ambiguous foods. Sprout is not a medical service and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. Consult a qualified health professional before making health-related decisions.

## Key features

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-09-10

Real food photos
Logged foods now show food-specific photos instead of generic category images where available. We’ve also corrected mismatched pictures and improved photo lookup.

Daily goals that fit you
Your daily food-group targets now reflect the age and sex you set in Settings. Updating your profile adjusts your current goals while preserving previously earned progress.

Your own foods, remembered
Foods you enter yourself are saved to your food library and autocomplete the next time you log them.

A pet with opinions
When your Sprout is hungry, it now asks for something from a food group you haven’t eaten yet today.

Smoother food tracking
We’ve improved food-group classification and fixed dashboard refresh issues when you change dates or update your profile.
