My library card was about to expire and I tried to renew a book I was reading. The renewal failed because the date for the extension was after my card expired. After getting my card renewed I then tried to extend the book, but that failed because the app declared that I had already renewed the book yet the return date was still the original date for return. End result I could not extend the loan on the book and took it back to the library. ### 2/5 — Mostly good *2026-01-26, version 2.0.10* The app mostly works OK except that for many weeks now, I get an error when trying to view my current loans. I can access other functions of the app, but I cannot view what's on loan and what is due back. I've spoken to librarians who say no one else has complained about this. And yet it still doesn't work for me. Fix it please? ### 2/5 — Needs an update *2025-12-12, version 2.0.10* Trying to add my library card barcode to Apple Wallet because when you click on ‘barcode’ in the app it often freezes and doesn’t display. Can’t find link in app to “add to Wallet”. “Reserve” link also didn’t proceed to “Confirm reserve” option. Times out, gives odd error messages and constantly needs rebooting. Features are nice and simple - when they work. ### 3/5 — Discontinued *2025-09-25, version 2.0.10* So this suddenly stopped working for me. After deleting and reinstalling, it wouldn’t find my library. A quick google search told me this (Spydus Mobile) was now being replaced by Spydus Library. Comms from libraries could’ve been better. But I downloaded that, and it works. No longer able to check when my books are due back or access barcode to check out or in. I can also easily renew books and check when they are due back. I have also been unable to check my loans and reservations as it keeps saying errors and have had to go online to check that info.. What’s the point in being able to see books that aren’t actually at the library? If I want a specific book, then sure, it makes sense to see all the books, click on the one I want and reserve it, but what I want is to be able to see what would be in stock on the shelves if I was stood in the library, so that I don’t set off to the library if the book isn’t there. Functionality wise it’s a perfectly acceptable app but it has issues maintaining sessions - if you leave the app inactive for a bit it times out and gives you an error whenever you try to do something. Which I have done, several times. But for the past month or so I can’t access my current loans so can’t renew books or see when they are due. The app desperately needs updates to fix this! ### 1/5 — Unpredictably useless *2026-01-08, version 2.0.10* Whenever I try to see my current loans I get this error message: “There was a problem connecting to the server. Please check your network connection or try again later. (Network error: error)”. When I try to login it says “invalid name or password” on iPad. But perfectly ok on iPhone. Completely undermines the good work that goes on at the libraries, making it impossible to use the services provided remotely. Such a shame and a tragic cost to tax payers that they can’t make these basic functions work. This app seems at complete odds with the library services’ goal of accessibility. ### 1/5 — This app needs love desperately *2025-07-01, version 2.0.10* I can’t work out why public libraries insist on using this app when it barely works. It constantly logs you out for no reason and almost every time you try and do any function that isn’t browsing it tells you there is a network error and logs you out again! It’s so frustrating. All I want to use this for is to reserve books from the library but it just can’t handle it for some reason. Add your borrower number including the B and any zeros. The password is your pin number. Its so easy to renew your books, and know when your reservations are ready. I love the ability to scan ISBNs and add to a book list. I love issuing books to myself in the library! It is much easier to search the catalogue and reserve books. Developments I would like to see is a visible alert or banner that your items are due for renew soon (to avoid fines) and that reserves are ready to pick up. ### 5/5 — Perfectly functional *2019-02-24, version 2.0.7* Really don't know what all the fuss is about regarding security? You don't have to select 'remember me' and even if you do, it's exactly the same as any other app that you log in with. If somebody else gets access to your device they can find out plenty of personal info if you haven't secured it properly in the first place. As for the app itself, as long as your library has subscribed you can use it to reserve & renew items as well as search and filter results. Most of the poor reviews are quite old and I would suggest ignoring them as the problems have most likely been fixed by now. Only fly in the ointment was the login. It asks for your password (don’t remember) logged into desktop account and nowhere to reset password. Tried my pin in the password box and it worked. So simple to find what you’re after, borrow it and return it. I don’t use it for much else but would love to be able to create my own library and request alerts for when books of interest are returned.
