## What is Squadly?

If you coach youth soccer, you know the drill: a paper roster on a clipboard, tally marks for who's played, and a nagging feeling you've left someone on the bench too long. Squadly does that counting for you.

It keeps a running clock on every player's minutes, gives you a heads-up before anyone falls short of your league's playing-time rules, and answers "who's due to go in?" at a glance. You get to actually watch the game.

On game day
• A live clock with each player's minutes ticking up next to their name
• A fair-time meter that goes green once everyone's had their share
• Warnings before a player can't mathematically reach half the game, not after
• Live Activity and Dynamic Island, so the clock's right there on your lock screen

Plan the subs before kickoff
• Drag players across a timeline to plan the whole game, period by period
• Or tap once and let Squadly plan the rotation for you
• Change your mind mid-game and it replans around what's already happened
• Every substitution waits for your approval — nothing moves on its own

Before kickoff
• Drag players into a formation to build your lineup (4-3-3, 4-4-2, whatever you run)
• 5v5, 7v7, 9v9 and 11v11, with formations for each
• Set your defaults once: formation, period length, number of periods
• Save the lineups and sub plans you come back to every week

Your roster
• Give a player every position they actually play, in the order you'd play them
• Mark as many goalkeepers as you rotate — a defender who takes a turn in goal is still a defender
• Import your roster from TeamSnap, or from a CSV
• See each kid's minutes, games, and fair-share record across the whole season

Coach with a partner
• Add an assistant coach and you both see the same roster, lineup and clock, live
• Either of you can run the game from your own phone

Squadly is free. No trackers, and your roster stays between you and your team.

Built for rec-league and youth-soccer coaches who want every kid to get their fair share of the field.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.0 — 2026-09-08

Player names on the pitch

Every player on the field now shows their first name under their circle, on the pre-game lineup, the live match and the sub planner. Two players with the same first name are told apart automatically.

Easier substitutions

Dragging a player from the bench onto the pitch during a live game is smoother, with bigger drop targets.

6v6, including divisions that play without a goalkeeper

6v6 is now a team size. Because many U8 divisions field no keeper, the two default 6v6 formations have no goalkeeper slot at all: six field players and nothing to ignore. Two more 6v6 shapes with a keeper are there if your league uses one.

Now works on iOS 17

Squadly used to require the newest iOS. It now runs on iOS 17 and later.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-08-30

Game day now survives a wrong tap.

• Tapped ahead to the next quarter by mistake? Tap back. The clock, the line-up, the queued substitutions and everyone's minutes all come back with it.

• A substitution that comes due now takes over the screen instead of waiting quietly at the bottom of the field. Sub now, remind me in a minute, or skip — and tap the two players to see why they're up.

• Adjust the game clock by hand whenever the watch and the whistle disagree. Playing time moves with it, so nobody loses minutes to a clock that started late.

• Correct a game after full time: the total time played, the opponent, the date, who was actually there, any player's minutes, and the score.

• Import a roster from a spreadsheet even when it has no header row.

• Add a game that already happened by picking a date in the past.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-08-28

The penalty arc outside each goal box now draws as the arc it should be, instead of sweeping a near-full circle through the box.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-25

The biggest update yet — everything coaches asked for since 1.1.

PLAYING TIME, YOUR REGION'S WAY. Count playing time in quarters, not just minutes — a player who starts a quarter gets credit for it, even if they come off early. Set how many quarters your region requires: half the game, or 1, 2, 3, 4. Late arrivals are only held to the quarters they were present for.

THE SUB QUEUE ANSWERS TO YOU. Tap any planned sub to edit it — who comes off, who comes on, and when. And now a sub can go into a different position: keep your keeper in the game and move them onto the field while the substitute takes goal. The pitch rotates for you. One-tap "Fix the conflicts" repairs a plan that stopped adding up.

SEE WHERE THEY'VE PLAYED. A position heat map shows where each player actually played versus what they prefer.

A FASTER FIRST DAY. A hands-on walkthrough runs on first launch, on a practice squad that cleans up after itself. Sign-up is two steps. CSV import reads real club exports, and TeamSnap import is offered right in setup.

ALSO: rank each player's positions in order of preference (carry more than one keeper safely), delete a game with a swipe, a broadcast-style pitch with player photo chips, and dozens of fixes.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-07

Squadly 1.1 is the biggest update since launch.

SUB TIMELINE. Plan the whole game before kickoff. Drag players from the bench onto the field, period by period, and see exactly who is on when. One tap auto-plans the entire rotation, and you can still change anything by hand.

PRE-GAME. Starting a match now runs through a pre-game screen: confirm the lineup, catch a player you marked absent who is still in the starting eleven, and adjust the plan. Started the clock by mistake? Back out to pre-game as long as it has not rolled.

YOU APPROVE EVERY SUB. Scheduled subs no longer apply themselves. Squadly tells you it is time and you make the call. A NEXT SUB card on the live screen shows what is coming, with a notification so you are not staring at the phone.

TWO COACHES, ONE GAME. Everything a team shares now actually reaches the other phone. Assistant coaches can connect TeamSnap. Lineups and game settings sync before kickoff instead of living on whichever phone built them. The live clock runs on both devices at once. Hand over the head-coach role and the new head gets head-coach access immediately.

A REAL TOUR ON DAY ONE. New coaches get walked through a practice squad and a real game day instead of an empty roster.

PLUS. Archive a team instead of being told you cannot leave it. Sign in with Apple. Season stats that are honest about partial games. Accessible contrast on every light surface. A Live Activity that ends when the game does. And around fifty fixes across rosters, templates, sync, and the watch app.
