App crashes and fails to load *2023-07-02* Why can’t we see the current weeks timesheet? It would be a huge benefit to know when employees are approaching overtime. It will work fine for about 2 weeks then I’ll get stuck on a loading screen that will just spin forever. Force close the app, restart the phone, check for updates, none of that seems to work. App needs many refinements for doing a salary based payroll. I do like square. ### 2/5 — Review *2021-04-26, version 2.0.8* I have it 2 stars because square payroll is making something as simple as switching accounts from one square payroll to another square payroll extremely complicated! I now need to re-submit payroll and pay double for taxes and then request a refund! That’s ridiculous! All the info should be able to transfer from one account to another. There is no reason for square to make it this complex. ### 3/5 — Needs better functionality! *2021-03-04, version 2.0.8* I love using Square Payroll on a desktop, but I need more from this app than what it can currently do. My payroll week ends on Monday. It’s Wednesday, and I can only see Timecards from Monday and back. Where is Tuesday and Wednesday? I can’t edit a time card punch for either day, which is super frustrating. I also can’t run payroll from my phone because we tip out on payroll and I can’t add those in on my phone. I’ve had to run payroll late a few times because I wasn’t sitting in front of a PC. I tried to go through Safari on my phone and the screen won’t move over to the Paycheck Tips area, so again, that doesn’t work either. Better off just using the website. Big disappointment. And I’m running an iPhone 11 that’s up to date, no reason or shouldn’t work ### 4/5 — Simple but would like recurring time cards *2020-05-05, version 1.2.8* Love the ap. Would like to be able to upload a recurring payment schedule though for employees that work the same hours weekly without having to manually have them enter. ### 2/5 — Please, please, please allow employers to see time cards on the current payroll cycle *2020-02-24, version 1.2.7* No idea why you are not able to see and edit time cards on the current payroll cycle, only historical. Very limiting in that you cannot clock people in / out if needed, can’t see how many hours they have worked the current week, etc. This functionality is needed for basic operational work! ### 1/5 — Needs improvement *2019-12-22, version 1.2.7* This app would be great, but it’s not designed for smart phone use. When you go to pay your employees, it doesn’t let you enter the amount due to all the information not fitting on the screen. It doesn’t turn or expand when you rotate your phone, so this app is basically useless. I have to sit down and physically log in from my computer to do payroll ### 3/5 — Can’t view imported time cards *2019-12-20, version 1.2.7* I import timecards automatically from When I Work. When I try to view time cards in the app I can only see timecards from the previous pay period. It would be nice if I could view time cards from the current pay period as they are imported each day. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Not Intuitive At All *2023-05-18* The things this app claims it can do versus how it actually does them is extremely far apart. The app is not intuitive at all and most functions haven’t worked for me. Simply manually adding my employees hours doesn’t work from the app. Everything seems disconnected. Even the menu has benefits and HR and all this other stuff listed way before the actual payroll features which is the main reason most of us get this app. Highly disappointing. Developer: not sure if it is the newer iPhone 14 technology, but I experienced a no-go on signing up with 3 separate attempts. ### 1/5 — Worst software since Windows ME *2022-01-17, version 2.0.8* Can’t even get started- they are saying my EIN is wrong, the exact one I use that works with everything else. I’ve re-put it in 8 times. Each time I have to re-verify account. So I’ve set up once plus 8 de-submits on EIN, plus 8 verifies, and one review. Tried support twice, got an unhelpful bot once and a “we will get back to you” on second attempt. I may not have time for actual business left when I finish this!!! Now I have to start all over with another company ### 1/5 — Terrible customer service *2021-09-03, version 2.0.8* I am new to this program and switched to streamline my payroll. Unfortunately I needed a little bit of help however the call center is a hot mess. They didn’t understand my question, transferred me 4 times saying they weren’t the right department even though I was assured they would transferred me directly to the correct department and ultimately got hung up on. Still haven’t resolved my issue. ### 1/5 — SCAMMERS BE CAREFUL!!! *2021-07-21, version 2.0.8* I HAVE EMAILED THEM 5 TIMES AND NO RESPONSE THEY TOOK $800 FOR PAYROLL AND EMPLOYEES NEVER GOT THE CHECKS! I ran payroll with them and my employees NEVER got their checks! It’s been over 3 weeks now and still no replies, they took over $800 from my account and it’s gone. I can’t call because there is no phone number, they’re ignoring my emails and I can’t get a hold of them. They randomly closed my account and now I don’t know what to do. I had to pay out of pocket a second time for my employees! SCAMMERS! WATCH OUT! ### 1/5 — Not good for running payroll *2021-06-06, version 2.0.8* I love Square payroll, but this app is awful. Whenever I try to run payroll and I don’t have access to a computer I struggle with using this app. The screen is really small and it cuts off the half of the page that shows wages and all the important stuff. If I need to input an amount for a paycheck for employees not paid hourly, I can’t even get to that section. At the touch of a button you have what you need. Except this app is just a headache. When my employees login at 11, my app says they clocked in at 8. They clock out and the app doesn’t clock them out until hours later. I have contacted support and was simply told we must be in different time zones when we are standing side by side and all devices are on the same time and internet connection. Then you can’t see time cards until the previous week pays out, so when they tell me their timecard is messed up (which they can’t fix themselves) I have to wait until the end of the week to fix it because I can’t access it before then. When I finally see the time cards and they’re completely wrong because of the time difference, it’s a disaster. This app is painful to use and I am not at all happy with the experience of having payroll employees. **Developer response:** We're sorry to hear about your bad experience. It’s installed and updated but when I try to log in, I get a solid green screen with the payroll logo and no option to enter my user name or password. I thought it might be a network speed issue but after five minutes, still nothing but the logo. I can’t rate the rest of the app because I have yet to experience it. ### 1/5 — Horrible *2020-10-16, version 1.2.9* At the beginning it was fine let me check my paystub. But now they added the stupid update that won’t even let me log into my account. I can’t check how much money I made this month nor can I look at my hours or paystub‘s. It’s glitched out and it won’t let me press the login button. Five star app gone to one star up and just one update. ### 1/5 — WOW Horrible APP I expected more from Square . *2020-08-09, version 1.2.9* I signed up for this App to do simple Contractor payrol . and wow i have never seen a more confusing app than this . I mean come on Square i had faith in you before this . All i wanted to do was pay a contractor and it is asking me for “Hours “ and there is NO way to bypass that . Iam paying a truck driver and He “DOES NOT “ work hourly . No way to bypass that . My second problem was I am trying to CANCEL and when i got to payrol setting and scrol down as stated in ur support page THERE IS NO OPTION TO CANCEL. A big company as square can’t figure out a simple Payroll APP? 🤷‍♂️... I had more faith in your company before this . **Developer response:** Sorry for the trouble. You can add their commission amount to the "Additional" column in the "Run Payroll" tab of the Payroll section on the Dashboard. That way you can put in a dollar amount instead of hourly/salary. No worries: since my square time card system and payroll are linked, payroll , from managing time cards , direct deposit , tax payments and reporting , deductions and all that goes along with payroll has been perfect. In the payroll world, that’s a big ask. The added benefit of being able to add employees and now adjust time cards on the app is a great addition . **Developer response:** Hi there!
