## What is SquareAcid?

It’s not an emulation or simulation of the TB-303 synth. It is an homage to TB-303, and other hardware synths. It’s a complete different beast, but it has the same functionality. It growls and barks with fierce resonance. SquareAcid is a singular squeal, squelch, and bleep machine.

It comes as a stand alone app with Audiobus and Ableton Link. It also comes with an AUv3 audio unit plug-in.

Features:

Audiobus

Ableton Link

IAA

AUv3

## Key features

- Hardware-inspired acid synthesis
- Standalone application

### 3/5 — Not Bad

*2024-12-11*

There are things to like about this, the sequencer is easy to use, and the basic sound. it delivers is phat, but the one big problem is there seems to be no way to separate notes. Use of the decay function only effects filter envelope, every note runs into the next one like it’s one continuous sound. you can erase a step, which will create a hard gap, but when you have a couple notes in a row, there is no way to create separation between them. I would def. use Troublemaker before this.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2022-08-25*

Hi enjoying this application it’s my go too tool to help me replicate what I figure out or created on to my actual hardware but requesting future features to see if you can complete this sweet beauty app please!!

1.midi learn on the knobs
2.joining patterns together or creating a song
3. Export midi or wave or share with other musicians

Thank you cheers!!

### 2/5 — Missing a lot

*2021-03-16*

I had sudden urge for a 303-esque sound, stumbled upon this app and was convinced by the positive reviews.
So far I’m quite disappointed.
It’s not recognized by my AU host (Zenbeats) despite multiple full scans, I can’t seem to find any way to setup midi, there’s just a generic “midi on” button in the settings.
The sequencer is a little clunky to handle (I sometimes have to try 5/6 times to successfully remove a “slide” note) and fairly limited, and since I can’t make it work with my other things so far it’s fairly useless other than pointless fiddling
Even the sound itself doesn’t impress me, but hopefully that’s something that can improve as I play more with it.
Before buying this I was playing with a browser based 303 clone that was much more satisfying and better sounding.
For the price I was hoping for a more “finished” app... competition is fierce.

### 5/5 — cool

this is so good, I like the clean and simple look of it, it’s easy to use it sounds great I don’t have many instruments that can produce these types of bass sounds so this is great, I have a suggestion make it to were the 6 patterns can chain together in any order as one big 6 bar loop or how ever many bars you want, a whole song mode would be appreciated, I can see this app catching on very soon becoming very popular in the music making world :)

### 5/5 — Rubbery Like A TB-303

*2020-11-17*

I am going out on a limb and say that SquareAcid responds the most accurately like hardware to knob changes than any other TB-303 or SH-101 emulator on IOS. Honestly, simple knob adjustments actually create new polyrhythms within the beat similar to real hardware units. Adjust the accents, filter envelope, or cutoff, and you can hear the entire character of a repetitive sequence change. Run it through a delay like Yukawa and you are off to some serious hypnotic acid adventures without having to alter the notes of the sequence itself. This is special because usually a repeating sequence becomes boring very quickly even with automation.

Sonically, it competes well against Troublemaker, 2XB303, Pure Acid, etc. SquareAcid is not as feature rich as Pure Acid (another monster). No automatic generator of sequences as of this writing. Only a distortion effect (which is excellent) is currently available. But SquareAcid captures the vibe of hardware knob tweaking in a way that is exceedingly gratifying. Definitely well done. Kudos to the developer!

### 4/5 — Nice!

It’s got a different sound. Grungy! Like it!
