Squirrel News is a constructive, solutions-focused news app. Our team of independent journalists collect the most important solutions-focused stories from international media and bundle them into free daily editions. THE SQUIRREL PRINCIPLE Are you irked by the fact that most news consists of conflicts, scandals, wars and disasters? Then you've come to the right place. We collect solutions-focused news stories, which otherwise might be tricky to find: reports on innovative ideas and solutions to societal challenges, examples of best practice, and stories of success. A NON-PROFIT PROJECT Our app is 100% free of charge. To cover our costs, we rely on regular voluntary donations. This way, we remain free and independent of corporate investors, sponsors and advertisers. Squirrel News is a project of the German registered charity Constructive News e.V. This means that all revenues are reinvested into the project, and we don’t keep any profits for ourselves. OUR TEAM We are an international team of journalists with headquarters in Berlin, Germany. We hand-pick all news stories and carefully weigh them according to journalistic criteria. PUSH NOTIFICATIONS We publish our issues three times per week: on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Eine Frechheit dass auf “J-Mail” verwiesen wird, was in Wahrheit für Betrug mit Kryptowährung entwickelt wurde. Richtig korrekt dass ihr eure Nutzer auf solche Pfade führt, will nicht wissen was ihr sonst noch so für Quellen heranzieht. Diese redaktionelle Entscheidung hat mich doch extrem verwundert. **Developer response:** Das war nicht die Nachricht. Die Nachricht war, dass die Diktatur nach Jahrzehnten zu Ende ist. Wie sich die neue Regierung entwickeln würde, war noch nicht klar, aber es war wahrscheinlich – und das hat sich bisher größtenteils bestätigt – dass es viel mehr Freiheit für die Bevölkerung geben würde als zuvor. ### 4/5 — Nett, aber *2024-08-29* Soweit ganz nett und positiv. Allerdings ist es wenig hilfreich, wenn Artikel verlinkt werden, die hinter einer paywall stehen. **Developer response:** Hallo, normalerweise nehmen wir solche Artikel nicht mit auf. Es kann aber vorkommen, dass Artikel, die kostenlos zugänglich sind, nach Redaktionsschluss (von uns) hinter einer Bezahlschranke verschwinden. Ansonsten verwechseln manche Nutzer:innen auch Spendenaufrufe und sonstige Pop-ups auf Nachrichtenseiten von Zeit zu Zeit mit Paywalls. ### 4/5 — Super App… *2023-07-06* Ich mag die App sehr und bin wirklich dankbar für diese kostenlose Möglichkeit, positive Nachrichten zu lesen. Mein einziger Kritikpunkt und zugleich Wunsch wäre/ ist, den Darkmode zu integrieren, bzw. die Anpassung der Darstellung ans System. This app is perfect because it keeps me someone informed on geopolitical stuff without making me enraged daily! Mir gefällt die schnörkellose Aufmachung dieser App und die Möglichkeit vorangegangene Ausgaben nochmal einsehen zu können sehr. Ein schönes Pondon zu den reißerischen Negativschlagzeilen mancher Medien. Top. ### 2/5 — Keine iPad Version *2020-11-30* Warum ist denn das immer so schwer, ein paar Layouts in iOS mehr zu programmieren und eine Universal App für alle zu machen? Und selbst die iPhone Version hat Layout-Fehler. Fazit: Gute Idee, aber mäßige Umsetzung. **Developer response:** UPDATE: Mittlerweile gibt es eine iPad-Version. URSPRÜNGLICHE ANTWORT: Das ist nicht nur eine Frage des Könnens, sondern auch der Zeit. Bei uns arbeiten ja alle ehrenamtlich und unser Entwickler arbeitet "nebenher" in Vollzeit – und war bis vor kurzem allein im (Entwicklungs-)Team. Dazu kommt, dass es eine Hybrid-App ist und wir ein recht starres Framework hatten bisher, was bei Layout-Anpassungen immer für Probleme gesorgt hat. Vor kurzem sind wir umgestiegen.
