## What is Stagehand?

Stagehand is a ChordPro chart reader for iPhone and iPad. Charts live on your device. There is no account and no cloud we run.

Transpose and capo are stored separately and combined only when the chart is drawn, so sounding G with capo 3 still fingers E. Import ChordPro, text and PDF, organize libraries and sets; and send a slide to an external display when you need it.

Stagehand can play a backing pad in the key you are singing, and a practice track you attach to a song. Pads follow the chart or stay on a key you pick. Tracks are tagged by key and start only when you tap play. Your files stay on the iPad. The app does not include any audio of its own.

Stagehand reads Arabic and other right-to-left charts: each line is drawn in the direction it is written, so one chart can mix English and Arabic, and chords sit over the letters they belong to.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-10-22

New in 1.4

Arabic and right-to-left charts
• Charts are drawn in the direction they are written. A song that is mostly English with an Arabic section shows that section right to left, and an Arabic song with an English tag shows the tag left to right.
• Chords sit over the letter they belong to in Arabic words, and the whole chord name is shown. A row of intro chords reads from the right.
• An English phrase inside an Arabic line still reads left to right. Arabic section labels such as كوبليه and لازمة are recognised.
• Add {direction: rtl} to a chart to force a whole chart right to left.
• The projector and the chart editor follow the same rules.

Web console
• The chart editor shows a live preview drawn by the iPad, so it matches the reader.
• Drag the dividers to resize the library, the song table, the editor and the preview.

Fixes
• Pads: when the song changed key, the old pad dropped out suddenly and then faded back in beside the new one. It now fades out smoothly while the new pad fades in, and a key change in the middle of a fade carries on from where it was.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-10-21

New in 1.3

Backing pads
• Play a soft pad under the song, in the song's key. Play, Pause and Stop are at the top of the new Pads panel, and a light on the pads button shows when a pad is sounding.
• The pad follows the song's key, or stays on a key you pick. It crossfades when the key changes and loops without a click.
• Bring your own pad files (mp3, wav, m4a, aiff, caf) and give each of the 24 keys a file.

Song tracks
• Attach audio to a song on the new Media tab: several files, tagged by key. A small player appears above the footer. Nothing plays until you tap it.
• Pads and tracks play together with their own levels, a limiter, optional ducking, lock screen controls and a Do Not Disturb reminder.

Keys and topics
• Keep me in this key now works from every list, with a relative-key rule.
• Topic chips can scroll or wrap into a grid, match one topic or several, and sort by name or by number of songs.

Everywhere
• A ? beside each panel's title opens help for that panel.
• The top bar fits an 11-inch iPad held upright, and no longer hides a panel you are using.
• The web console now manages the audio library, the pads and each song's tracks.

Fixes
• Pads start without a click, and a quick Stop then Play always plays.
• The Do Not Disturb reminder is easy to read in every theme.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-10-07

Library headings are now coloured bands, so it is easy to see where each key or topic starts. My key is the first choice on By key.

The song screen's index list now matches the new library: columns, keys along the bottom, and your filters kept.

Chord bar patterns such as [Bm / A/C# / |D / Em7 / |Gmaj7] now show. A new Section Spacing slider adjusts the gaps between sections.

The projector shows PDF songs page by page, and its controls sit in the song footer. Songs open fitted to the screen, and changing songs keeps full screen.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-10-06

Find any song in a touch or two. Every key sits along the bottom and every topic along the top; tap one to filter. Major and minor keys are separate, and minor keys now show their m.

On iPad the list runs in columns, so most of your songs fit on screen at once. Sort by title or key, in All songs and Indexes. The library remembers how you left it.

A Fit to screen button floats over your chart: tap it to see the whole song, tap again to go back. Drag it anywhere.

Every chord in a bracket now shows, and chords never run into each other. Hide chords for a cleaner lyric page. Choose where the second column starts.

Faster to open, and lighter on the battery.
