I have been using this app from its launch and feel it is just getting worse with time. The fact that it is unreliable and I have had to reach out to support on multiple occasions alone is concerning enough to not use it until they can get the app to where it needs to be. I would stay clear of it unless you’re willing to track your funds meticulously and go through “testing” with the app builders and want to watch money disappear. By the way my account balance is still showing incorrectly as of today. ### 4/5 — Its easy and simple… *2022-06-21, version 1.1.92* Easy simple investing. Called the support number but there was no answer. But I guess something sometimes is better than next to nothing anytime. ### 1/5 — Terrible *2022-05-01, version 1.1.85* Okay I ran out of patient with this app. They have problem with bank confirmation for more than 6 months now. I reported it and they said they know about it, so you know about it now what? I can’t deposit money nor confirm my bank account (I tired like 100 times). How many month it takes to solve such small technical bug. ### 2/5 — Needs a whole level of improvement. *2022-04-26* I was attracted to this app due to the interest rate and fact that it is owned by ground floor. But the app is terrible and has a mind of its own. It can reduce your balance to any number it pleases. You keep on contacting support and try to keep on getting your balances fixed. I needed to withdraw some money and am not sure how to proceed with it as at present my balance is shown as $0. There is no phone number to speak to a person or chat with someone to solve the problem or help with withdrawal. They don’t give you a monthly statement. But…I noticed lately that the total goes down for no apparent reason. Still needs work. ### 1/5 — Round up stop working for 3 months *2022-04-07, version 1.1.84* I have had this app for 6 months. All of a sudden after 3 months my round up stopped working, so I have called and emailed and nothing has been done. Now I want my money, all of it, and the the withdrawal doesn’t work. The app tells me to reverify my account. Which I have done 1000 times. Don’t put your money in this app!!!!! ### 2/5 — App is not reliable and lots of issues *2022-04-04* I have been using the app for over 6 months now. Initially loved the concept of being able to make a good percentage rate of interest on liquid funds. It has not been smooth sailing however, had difficulties setting up my account and still not able to get the full 6% I had hoped for. After several weeks of back and forth with the initial set up with Groundfloor, they were not able to rectify the issues with Plaid and my bank account so I had to settle with the 5%. Recently there have been lots of issues with Stairs being down & not being able to enable any transactions, we received an email that the problems had been fixed however I recently tried making 2 withdrawals last week which showed that the the transaction had been accepted successfully on the app however the transaction history never updated in the app, nor did I receive the funds in my account. It’s now a week later. Be very careful putting any money in here that you might need immediate access to because the app does not consistently work reliably. **Developer response:** Hi there, thank you for your review and feedback - we are passing your comments along to our team. And no website as an alternative option? ### 2/5 — Not working *2022-04-01, version 1.1.84* Just Download app and attempted to sign in the app closed itself every time. ### 3/5 — Cannot withdraw money *2022-03-29, version 1.1.83* Had trouble getting everything at work but now that it is depositing and withdrawing funds properly… I like the current interest rate even if there are no FDIC protections.It would be nice if there was seamless integration with GroundFloor investment accounts. ### 1/5 — Needs a lot of work *2022-03-28, version 1.1.83* As others have mentioned, there is no uniformity between the “real time” account balance and what your actual interest is. For new users it would be helpful to explain that deposits are combined and credited by day. For instance- any deposit that clears and is credited on a Monday is combined with previous balances that cleared on Mondays, while one on a Tuesday will act as a separate investment. The Plaid API link is horribly broken and is my main reason for considering deleting this app. The need to re-verify your bank every few days (and it doesn’t work most of the time) leaves very little trust in the developer and Groundfloor, and leaves me wondering if I would be able to withdraw my funds if I ever needed to. Updated 3/28/2022: Lowered to 1 star. App technical issues continue to get worse. Stairs app has been unable to load account information off and on for weeks. All money is stuck until it comes back up. All of this without even an email to users announcing downtime?! Completely unreliable and this is probably the biggest mistake Groundfloor has ever made. Trash this concept and start over with programmers that know what they are doing! I am pulling the last of my funds the moment I can get back in and going to other apps that offer these same rates and services without the problems. I know my account is still active because I still have money coming out every month. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — It was great until it wasn’t… *2023-06-22* The app originally gave you the ability to earn up to 6% on your money with no minimum balance requirements. Then out of the blue, they took away round ups and automated transfers (both very convenient features), capped the interest rate at 4%, and doesn’t provide the security of FDIC insurance. It’s not a bad rate of return on cash you may have sitting around, but in today’s high interest rate environment, it’s easy to find a high yield savings account that offers even higher rates of return than 4% while also providing FDIC insurance. At the time of this review, Marcus is currently offering 4.15% APY, while Wealthfront is offering 4.55% APY, and Raisin can match you with partner banks yielding as high as 5.12% APY. All of those offerings are FDIC insured. And if FDIC insurance isn’t important to you, then you should look into Worthy. Their bond accounts are currently yielding 5.65% APY and money is just as liquid as with Stairs. ### 1/5 — Cannot get your money out. *2023-06-01, version 1.1.152* App does not allow withdrawal of available funds to close account. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work anymore *2023-04-20, version 1.1.147* Haven’t been able to log in for months. I contacted support and was referred to a waitlist, apparently because Stairs is no longer accepting new users until the next version comes out. This should have been put on the web site. I personally don’t see that they care to get it right, release after release after release same problems, new problems.. and you spend more time emailing them and getting their “engineers” To update than it’s worth.. if they eventually get it correct it could be good. The company behind the Stairs app (GroundFloor) loaned our company the funds to buy & rehab a house less than 3 miles from where I live. As a result, I started studying their business model and discovered the Stairs app. I’ve decided to use it for my short-term cash / emergency fund. I’ve got my monthly savings on auto-pilot with a recurring transfer. Plus, they round up each of my debit card transactions… should have almost $12,000 saved in Stairs app in 12 months, earning 6% interest, and able to withdraw the cash at any time, with no penalty. Can’t beat that! ### 5/5 — It’s the best of both worlds *2022-10-31* I don’t understand anyone giving this less than 5 stars. Maybe some of negative reviews are from when it first launched and still had some bugs. I’ve never had an issue and the customer service is very helpful and responsive. Whenever I’ve had a question it’s been answered the same day or the very next. Stairs is the best of both worlds. You’re earning 6% while your investment is still fairly liquid. That’s an insnaley high rate considering how liquid your investment is. You can add and withdraw funds easily. It takes a few days for the funds to hit just like venmo or PayPal. If you have a chunk of change sitting around earning nothing but you want to be able to access it in the event of an emergency this is a no brainer. It’s also great for stashing your cash until you find another investment you want to go in on that has an even higher return. Don’t let your money just sit in a checking or savings account and earn practically nothing. This is a great app that’s backed by a great company in Groundfloor. ### 5/5 — It’s about time! Thank you Stairs / GroundFloor *2022-05-21* The app is great and the interest accrual is accurate. They had an issue with the real time ticker but I knew it was glitchy. Bottom line is you can’t make 6% on cash in anything that’s like a savings account. It’s a beautiful thing to see 100’s of dollars getting generated month after month compound. I ran into some issues with transferring my $ to the app. First it canceled my transfer once, then failed 4 of my transfers, now it’s pending 2 transfer and one of which is not authorized by me! I understand the team is working hard, but seeing my bank account might be overdrawn is frustrating! The yield is great, plus you have access to the capital when you need it. It isn’t tied up for 3+ months or anything. So excited to have found this product! ### 5/5 — Bank account issues *2022-02-25* First off, love this app! Love the concept, love the return and love the simplicity! My bank account is not a member of plaid so I can’t link it to get round ups, but even if I could, we never use our debit card. Would love to have the ability to link both our bank account for auto deposits as well as a credit card for round ups.
