## What is Star Explorer?

Point your iPhone at the night sky and instantly see what you're looking at. Star Explorer names stars, planets, constellations and the Moon in AR, and tells you what's worth seeing tonight from where you are.

No sign-up needed to start. The star catalog, sky map and astronomy assistant work offline, so they keep working at dark-sky sites with no signal.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
- AR star finder: hold up your phone to identify stars, planets and constellations, with comet and meteor-shower layers
- Night sky map: a live all-sky chart you can move forward or back in time; search 8,900+ stars, all 88 constellations and all 110 Messier objects
- Tonight's sky: Moon phase, visible planets and observing conditions for your location and weather
- Sky events: meteor showers, planet oppositions and every solar and lunar eclipse from 2027 to 2030, with reminders
- Offline astronomy assistant: ask questions and get an observing plan without a connection
- Red-light night mode that protects your night vision
- Tonight's Sky widget for your Home Screen
- Bite-size astronomy lessons with quizzes, and a stargazing trip planner
- Made for iPhone and iPad, including the iPhone Duo inner display

Free forever: AR star finder, sky map, sky events, offline assistant, lessons, night mode and widget. Optional purchases:
- Pro, all features, lifetime: one-time purchase that unlocks the deep-sky catalog, astrophotography assistant, cloud AI and photo identification
- Observing Tools, lifetime: one-time purchase that unlocks the deep-sky catalog and astrophotography assistant

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.4 — 2026-10-24

· Without location access, the default observing site now follows your device's region (e.g. New York, London, Tokyo) instead of always Shanghai
· On iPhone Duo, half-folded, the sky map splits in two: the chart on one side, the object list and selected star on the other
· In AR, star names step off the fold while half-folded, with a tip to unfold for the full view
· Better right-to-left layout on foldable screens
· Stability and polish

### 1.1.2 — 2026-10-21

• A new circular all-sky chart makes directions, bright stars and labels easier to read.
• Pinch to zoom, drag while zoomed, and reset with one tap. Selected-object cards stay within reach.
• Search the complete Messier catalog and edit your query while scrolling results.
• Improved iPhone Duo folded, unfolded, rotated and large-text layouts, with smoother navigation.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-10-17

· Optimized for iPhone Duo: the inner display uses the full screen with vertical navigation, and content moves clear of the fold when half open
· Landscape on the inner display; AR stargazing now uses your camera's real field of view for more accurate labels
· Stars without proper names now show their constellation, e.g. "η Andromeda"
· Stability and polish

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-15

- The whole app is now properly localized in 20 languages, including full right-to-left layout for Arabic
- The AI assistant understands questions in your language and answers in it, including photo identification
- Constellation, star and Messier object names now appear in your language
- Suggested questions in the AI assistant, plus many interface fixes

### 1.0.9 — 2026-10-13
