There are two games, Reading Power and Spelling Power. Reading Power: "Touch the word you hear." Spelling Power: "Touch the letters to spell the word you hear." There are 30 levels of K-through-2nd Grade high frequency words. The levels are progressively more difficult. Players have a limited about of time to complete a task. This is called the "Challenge Speed," and can be adjusted from the Settings menu. The player's high score for each level is represented on the Home Screen. The lively voice prompts keep my kids engaged without coming across as condescending. Unlike many of the other spelling apps available Star Speller is not slowed down with a bunch of annoying steps and useless commands. Kids are able to jump right in and get to work on the fun and effective spelling drills. I really like the fact that the word lists are compiled by teachers and actually used in schools. And, with 30 different levels both my kindergartener and 2nd grader can work at their own pace with plenty of room to grow and improve without getting bored. The voice commands are clear fun with awesome encouragements a like, "I smell a genius!".
