## What is StarrBlocks?

Stack. Clear. Blast. Quest. Carve. StarrBlocks is a native iOS puzzle arcade built for quick rounds, deep mastery, and that "one more run" pull.

Start with StarrBlocks, a polished falling-block puzzle with smooth swipe-and-tap controls, satisfying rotations, hard-drop trails, rich haptics, and line clears that pop. Switch to StarrBlast, an 8x8 drag-and-place block puzzle with its own modes, themes, daily challenges, and cinematic blast effects. Then there's StarrWood, a tactile 9x9 Woodoku puzzle: drag carved wood pieces onto the board, clear rows, columns, and 3x3 sudoku boxes, and wander a Journey trail of hand-painted polaroid scenes you unlock one level at a time. We've also got StarrTricks, a tower height game mode where you see just how high you can stack the blocks without letting the pieces topple over!

FOUR PUZZLE GAMES IN ONE

STARRBLOCKS

Marathon: classic endurance. Survive rising speed and chase a bigger score.
Sprint: clear 40 lines as fast as possible.
Ultra: three-minute blitz where every placement matters.
Bombs: chain explosive clears and turn pressure into fireworks.
STARRBLAST

Classic: endless 8x8 block placement with no falling timer.
Daily: a shared daily seed with streaks and one clean run per day.
Quest: 90 story levels with handcrafted boards, objectives, collectibles, and stars.

STARRWOOD

Endless: free-play 9x9 Woodoku with sudoku-box clears, scattered collectible gems that bonus your score, and randomized painterly backdrops on every open.
Journey: hand-authored 30-stop trails (starting with Camping) where the screen scenery shifts between polaroid scenes — campfire, lakeside, summit, sunrise — as you collect themed gems against a move limit.
THEMES WITH PERSONALITY

STARRTRICKS

Tower: physics-based tetromino stacking where every block has weight, wobble, and consequence. Build upward across checkpoint lines, brace risky pieces with Anchor power, and chase your tallest tower in feet.

Play across 30+ custom themes, from Aurora, Cosmic, Jelly, Tron, Atoll, Aquarium, Trench, and Prism to StarrBlast worlds like Ocean Depths, Crystal Gems, Ancient Relics, Gridrunner Protocol, and Phantom. StarrWood adds a hand-painted wood-grain family with multiple stains for every Woodoku run. Themes change more than color: boards, pieces, backgrounds, trails, particles, and line-clear effects all get their own personality.

EFFECTS THAT FEEL GOOD

Hard-drop trails show the path your piece took.
StarrBlast line clears turn rows and columns into radiant blasts.
StarrWood Journey backdrops shift painterly scenes as you walk the trail.
Custom effects, particles, screen motion, and haptics make every clear tactile.
A 21-track soundtrack and sound effects can be mixed, muted, or tuned to your mood.
BUILT FOR HOW YOU PLAY

Responsive controls designed for thumbs
Local high scores and run history
Game Center leaderboards for score-based modes
Playable onboarding that gets out of your way
Music, sound, haptics, ghost pieces, classic pieces, and visual options
Native SwiftUI polish with smooth animation on iPhone and iPad
NO NOISE

No ads. No timers between rounds. No paywalls blocking the good stuff. Just open the app, pick your mode, and chase the next clear.

StarrBlocks is for players who love thoughtful puzzle design, satisfying feedback, and games that turn a spare minute into a real run.

### 4/5 — Addictive and fun, if a bit glitchy

*2026-05-15*

This is a very good substitute for Tetris. Thank you to the developer: You are a star! I love that it’s open source and doesn’t track users or contain ads.

The graphics and sound effects (including the ghost-block imagery, trailing effects upon forced block drop, and block landing effects and the trailing effects) tailored to the various themes are fun and often quite entertaining. I can’t comment on the music since I don’t use it.

The functionality is almost the same as in Tetris, with the notable exception that the user can’t simultaneously drag and slide part of a block under another (but must instead wait for it to fall to where they can slide it without issue), which can be a pain in the early part of a game.

Also, at least in my experience, past about 20,000, the blocks respond more sluggishly: They don’t turn or slide as easily (or sometimes at all). Perhaps this is intentional, to make the game even more challenging. In any case, I can only get to about a fourth of what my high score was in Tetris, and I don’t think this is entirely due to my many years’ lack of practice.

Nevertheless, I appreciate all the energy and creativity that went into development.

### 5/5 — This Game Saved My Relationship

*2026-04-21*

Let me set the scene. It was a Tuesday. The kind of Tuesday that smells like regret and leftover meatloaf. My golden retriever, Sir Reginald Von Biscuit III, had not looked me in the eyes for six weeks. Six. Weeks. Every time I walked into the room he would stand up, make deliberate eye contact with the wall, and lay back down facing away from me. The veterinarian said he was "fine." My therapist said I was "projecting." I said they were both wrong and downloaded StarrBlocks.

The first night, I played for four hours straight on the couch. Around the third hour, Reginald lifted his enormous head, stared at my phone screen, and — I need you to understand the gravity of this moment — he put his chin on my knee. For the first time since the Incident of February (I accidentally ate his birthday biscuit thinking it was a cookie. It was not a cookie. He witnessed everything), he had chosen proximity to me.

I believe it was the falling block sound effects. Scientists have not confirmed this. I have emailed three universities. None have responded. But the soft thwump of a block slotting perfectly into a row seemed to speak directly to whatever ancient wolfish part of Reginald's brain governs forgiveness. Or maybe it was the glow of the screen. Either way, a healing had occurred.

By week two I was clearing combo chains fast enough that Reginald began making a low impressed grunt I had never heard before. I have since learned this is a sound dogs make when they respect you. It is called a "grumble of acknowledgment." I made that term up but it describes the noise perfectly. He now sits next to me every time I open the app. He has his own corner of the couch blanket. We have an arrangement.

StarrBlocks is also a perfectly good puzzle game. The block physics feel snappy, the difficulty curve is fair, the color palette doesn't make your eyes bleed, and there's a satisfying screen-shake when you clear four rows simultaneously that I can only describe as emotionally nutritious. Good stuff. Five stars.

But mostly I gave it five stars because Sir Reginald Von Biscuit III is once again sleeping at the foot of my bed, and I owe this app a debt I cannot repay in currency. Only in ratings.
