## What is Starting Line?

Any seasoned drag racer will tell you that most races are won at the starting line. Having a good and consistent reaction time is key to winning.

To achieve this you need a practice tree app...but not just any practice tree app. You need the Starting Line. 
By providing a more realistic race setting, the ability to seriously fine-tune, and statistics to provide you with feedback to build consistent reaction times, Starting Line has it all!


Starting Line includes features and settings to satisfy everyone from casual users to weekend warriors to veteran drag racers.

Features include:
- 0.400/0.500 Sportsman(Full) tree and 0.400/0.500 Pro tree

- use a 0.000 based timer or a 0.400/0.500 based timer

- choose launch lane or have the app randomly choose

- race CPU opponent (supports bracket racing and 'heads-up' for both tree types)

- enter your own dial in and allow the system to randomly set the CPU opponent dial in

- choose to use LED amber lights or traditional incandescent lights

- Can launch with gas pedal [press], transbrake [release], or delay box (delay box supports 1 and 2 button [release] as well as ZForce button [press-release-press] types)

- Separate settings for many Sportsman and Pro tree options allowing for distinct settings between each

Statistics:

Starting Line really shines by providing you with useful stats and helping you analyze your race reaction times (r/t’s).

You will find all the summary data you would expect like:
- Overall average r/t
- Green light average r/t
- best and worst r/t's
- total green and red lights

It also compares multiple racing scenarios (left vs right lane, night vs day, opponent vs solo, etc) and tells you which scenario you need to practice on.

And what would stats be without great graphs! Starting Line boasts scatter plot and bar graphs to allow you to see your reaction time trends over time and to see how well you really are doing…which simple averages cannot do.

The beauty of this graphing lies in its power to compare two racing scenarios at the same time! At a glance, you can see how well you are doing in 10 different racing scenarios.

And for those of you that want to analyze your data further, there is an export option to export all your race data to CSV file (requires iTunes to get the export file). Then you can import the data into a spreadsheet program like Excel and have at 'er!

Feels like a drag race simulator. My only suggestion would be to have engine rpm’s rise or get louder when both vehicles are staged on double bulbs. Otherwise this app is great practice.

I get everything set up the way it is when/where I usually race —the sound of the car, the crosstalk, day/night — then I enter the actual practice tree mode and do my thing. Then, it’s back to setting everything up again. The delay and rollout is saved, but the sound, the crosstalk, day/night changes itself back every time. It gets annoying really fast when you realize crosstalk has been automatically turned off or it’s night when you wanted it to be day.

Other than that, though, this app is a good way for an ol’ bracket racer to practice RTs. Also, keep in mind I’m writing this while gritting my teeth in frustration right after I had to reset everything for the 4th or 5th time.

Just before a race, you can set things up how you want for the upcoming race, but they will reset to default. To change the defaults (like sound, day/night, etc) so the settings are "permanent", click the Gear icon in the top right corner. 
There are many settings to choose from that will remain after each race...you then of course could change them for one specific race as you've discovered.

The app is way too inconsistent. I should have read the previous reviews, definitely would have passed on this purchase.

**Developer response:** This is not a common complaint Gambler013. Only 1 person has ever complained of this and I never received any details regarding the specifics of the issue.
There sometimes is confusion because there is a setting that allows for 0.000 based results (perfect reaction) vs 0.500/0.400 based results (old school perfect reaction). In addition, since the app runs on devices that max out at about 60 frames per second, there is some fractional amount of delay between the screen being asked to update and actually showing the update...which could cause some inconsistency issues on much slower devices. If you could provide some more details, it would be helpful to narrow down possible problems. What type of phone/tablet are you using? What type of racing are you using? (ie. using gas pedal, transbrake, delay box, etc) Are you running pro street or sportsman? Can you give a more detailed scenario of your reaction times from one race to the next (using the same settings each time)?

It’s all over the place. I’m not .02-.04 whatever then -1.? The next run. Maybe I have the settings wrong but if I doubt it. Want it to work since I paid for it but it is soo inconsistent I. Ant use it.

I haven't had any reports of it being inconsistent in the way you describe. There sometimes is confusion because there is a setting that allows for 0.000 based results (perfect reaction) vs 0.500/0.400 based results (old school perfect reaction).

What type of racing are you using? (ie. using gas pedal, transbrake, delay box, etc)
Are you running pro street or sportsman?
Can you give a more detailed scenario of your reaction times from one race to the next (using the same settings each time)?

I don't understand not can I adjust the reaction time delay thing.  No matter what you do the RT is always .400-.500 and never quicker.  Seriously ???? I've seen quicker reactions at the track all day regardless of when you time the light.    Fix it app people

**Developer response:** Hi there. Sounds like you would like to have 0.000 based results (traditionally, a 0.500 would be a perfect for the Sportsman tree and 0.400 for the Pro tree. By default, Starting Line uses the traditional timing). 

You can switch to use 0.000 based results by:
- go into the settings (Gear symbol on the top right) > General > Use .000 based results (instead of .500/.400) 
- Set to Yes.
