## What is StarTone?

StarTone is a music player which can play songs in your "Music" library and audio files stored in your device, including common format like mp3 and lossless format of Flac, also it support MIDI playback and support customize sound bank.

StarTone was came out for rating music with stars and "love" statues. The rating bar stands out in the main page, so it just need one touch to make the rating, no need to open many submenus.  In addition,  StarTone provides Today Extension and Watch app, so you can also make music ratings on the Widget Screen and your Apple Watch.

StarTone now also equips some handy features to make the music listening easy and happy. Please try to play with them.

Works for me, but I only use my own local library. 

I’ve been looking for so long for a star rating widget since the one I was using got depreciated. 

The watch app was a nice bonus.

I had a good experience using this app to easily access Music star ratings.  
That is, until I opened the app, changed one rating, and ALL of my ratings for EVERY song changed. 
Fortunately, I had a backup of my library. But holy cow that was unnerving. 
Dev responded saying they’d look into it but never seemed to have updated the app since. It’s been two years now.

I tried this app well over a year ago and had a deal breaking issue. I couldn’t tie the issue to the Startone app, so I abstained from writing a review. After deleting the app over a year ago, fixing my ratings, reinstalling the app today (newer version), and listening to and rating a couple songs stored locally on my iPhone… I can unequivocally state that this app is the culprit. It rated songs I hadn’t even listed to. Additionally, it changed songs’ ratings that I’d methodically managed over the past 20+ years.

To fix the damage caused, I had to remove this app, synch my iPhone to my library, restart the iPhone, fix the ratings that this app broke (redundantly stored as text “***” in songs’ Comment tag), then re-synch.

If you actually care about keeping song ratings, my recommendation is to proceed with caution with this app. It is buggy/unstable at best, or worse… poorly designed.  Either way, it can’t be trusted.

Finally! I can’t believe the Apple Watch has come 8 generations without the ability to rate the songs like you can on every other one of their devices. Big thanks to the developer for creating this!

Love this app. I like song star ratings, but Apple has been making it harder and harder to use them. This app puts the ability to quickly rate a song right in my wrist. 

One thing to note: if you set the Apple watch to keep the last used watch app on screen longer, *and* if you don't ever open the native music app on the watch, StarTone will stay on the watch screen. Once you open the native Apple watch music app, it will keep coming back to the foreground.

For years I’ve tried to find a rating-focused app, but they all required music to be manually synced with iTunes. This is the first I’ve seen that can use the iCloud Music Library PLUS it has a great Apple Watch app, which is exactly what I was looking for! 😁👍

The main reason l purchased this app is that l can easily check/edit 5-star rating of any song, unlike the native app.
I also like that the album art is displayed on a bigger area compared to iphone’s music app.
Displaying file’s lyrics is very easy.

However, when showing a list of songs in an album for example, 5-star rating isn’t shown next/below every song, but you have to open every single song to check that.

Also, when playing a song, lt’s order/number in an album or a playlist isn’t shown, as well as the total play time.

I hope the developers add these features to the next update soon.
