## What is Starwheel?

```
Starwheel is a number puzzle drawn on an old star chart.
The board is a wheel of seven spokes and six rings. Place a star and it slides inward toward the centre. A star burns when its number matches the count of stars on its spoke, or the length of its unbroken row around its ring. Burning stars crack the hatched stars beside them, the wheel settles, and one well-placed star can set off a chain that sweeps across the chart.
There is no limit on how many stars you place. Instead, every few stars a ring of hatched stars rises from the centre and pushes everything outward. Chart the constellation before a rising ring pushes any star past the rim.
THE SKY WHEEL
Every level is a real star. Chart all of a constellation's stars and its engraved figure, taken from Johannes Hevelius's star atlas of 1690, inks itself into your sky. Its field notes open too: the common name, the brightest star, the season to look for it, and a few stories told about it.
Your journey spirals out from Polaris through 42 constellations and 206 levels. The map begins dark and veiled. As you chart, the fog lifts and the faint graticule and field stars show through. Pinch out to see how much of the wheel you have uncovered.
NEW SKIES, NEW RULES
Ideas arrive one at a time, each with a gentle level of its own:
- Ring turns: drag a whole ring around the centre to line up a row
- Comets that burn the outermost star of a spoke
- Supernovae, when a burning 7 cracks the sky around it
- Binary stars that carry two numbers
- Veiled stars whose numbers stay hidden until a neighbour burns
KEEP YOUR OWN SKY
- The Atlas gathers every constellation you have charted, figure and notes together.
- The Almanac keeps your achievements, from your first burning star to Astronomer Royal.
- The Observatory is endless play for nights when the map can wait.
QUIET BY DESIGN
No ads. No accounts. No timers or energy. Starwheel collects no data at all, and your progress is saved only on your device. It plays offline, with soft synthesised tones and gentle haptics that you can turn off.
Chart the sky, one star at a time.
