## What is Stash?

Stash is the fastest way to save a link or a bit of text on one device and pick it up on another. Built like all my apps: private by design, no accounts, no tracking. Save it, find it later, get on with your day.

Like everything I make, Stash starts from a simple foundation: your data is yours. There's no account to create, no server of mine holding your stuff, and no tracking of any kind. Everything syncs through your own iCloud and stays there.

I built Stash because I kept finding links on my phone that I wanted to view later on my Mac, and vice versa. Like many people, I would message them to myself. That was not an elegant or user-friendly solution. I just wanted a box to toss things into that would sync everywhere. Everything else I tried wanted to be a read-it-later service, had a different goal in mind, wanted me to create an account, had unnecessary "social" features, or had questionable privacy.

### 1.6.0 — 2026-07-31

* New badge for items from other devices: Stash can now show a badge when something synced from another device arrives, so you can spot new items at a glance; it appears on the iPhone/iPad app icon and the Mac menu bar icon, clears when you open Stash, and is off by default. Enable in app Settings > Data.

* Sync fixes: Sync should no longer get stuck, works more smoothly when offline, and now backs off properly instead of retrying too aggressively.

* macOS: Press Esc to close the menu bar dropdown, and you can optionally enable a Dock badge too.

* Support and security: Better diagnostics for support, plus some security hardening and code cleanup.

### 1.5.1 — 2026-07-14

* New Themes! Settings > Appearance gains three new color themes, Cotton Candy, Seafoam, and Tangerine, built on a new theme system with more to come.
* Themes now carry an accent color. The selected theme tints buttons, the favorite star, link open and copy controls, and sidebar highlights throughout the app.
* Autocorrect and smart punctuation in the capture field. Typing a note now gets spelling correction, smart quotes, and text replacement on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
* Widgets stay fresh in the background. Widgets now update as items sync in, without needing to open Stash first.
* iCloud account changes are now guarded. Signing into a different iCloud account prompts to keep the items on this device or start fresh, instead of silently mixing libraries.
* Better Reddit titles. Links that Reddit serves as "Please wait for verification" now recover the real post title, summary, and thumbnail, and previously saved ones heal automatically. Also fixed a case where Tidy Noisy Titles skipped an item shared from another device.
* macOS: redesigned capture fields. The main window and menu bar inputs are now glass pills matching the native toolbar search style, sized to their Paste and Stash buttons.
* macOS: sidebar polish. The selected list's icon and highlight now read clearly, and clicking in the sidebar returns focus to the list.
* iPad: fixed hard-to-read white text on the selected sidebar row in light mode.
* Tag chips are easier to read in light mode, with one consistent look across the list, detail view, and share sheet.
* The list widget gains a Newest or Oldest sort option.
* Faster and leaner. Stored preview images are capped at a sensible size, list scrolling does less work, and sync skips redundant pushes, including closing Edit Tags without changes.
* Security hardening for widget deep links and import.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-06-27

* In-app browser. A new option in Settings > Reading opens links inside Stash instead of leaving for Safari, with an optional Reader view that simplifies article pages when one is available. Both are off by default. iPhone and iPad, only.
* Search now spans Stash and Archive. A search now finds matching items in both lists at once, grouped into a Stash section followed by an Archive section.
* Tap a link's preview image to open it. For a video link, the thumbnail's play button now opens the video instead of looking tappable but doing nothing.
* Smoother sidebar. Fixed an animation hitch when swiping from the edge to reveal the sidebar on iPhone.

What's new in 1.3.1:

* Fixed an issue that could result in deleted items not being removed from all devices, or get stuck trying to sync.
* Reddit links recover their real post title. Posts that Reddit now serves only as "From the ... community on Reddit" are restored to the full title, prefixed with the subreddit.
* Readable titles for links that block previews. When a page refuses a preview fetch, as some news sites do, Stash derives a title from the link itself instead of showing a bare address.
* More reliable link enrichment. Title and preview fetching is more dependable, so pages that previously timed out or came back blank are more likely to fill in.
* Pasting or sharing a link without http:// now saves as a link instead of a plain text note.
* Fixed an animation hitch that could affect some iPhones when swiping a row to reveal Tag and Archive.
