It’s so accurate and I always buy the correct amount of yarn. I’m pretty sure it’s saved me quite some $$$ in excess yarn! 😍 Huge recommendation! ### 5/5 — Total gamechanger *2024-07-29* Been using this brilliant app for several years. In the yarnstore I can work out what meterage to buy when I don’t have a specific pattern in mind. At home I can calculate what I can make with yarn from my stash. It has prevented me wasting money buying more yarn than I need and the disappointment of guessing, only to subsequently find it’s not enough. Super easy to use and beautifully clear display. My absolute favourite knitting app - wouldn’t be without it. ### 5/5 — Indispensible! *2024-07-04* Stashbot is absolutely indispensible when shopping for yarn. I refer to it constantly when I find a special yarn or great deal and have a general idea what I’d like to make, but no specific pattern. After getting tester feedback I rarely have to adjust the yardages from what the app estimated! ### 5/5 — STASHBOT ROCKS! *2024-03-07* II usually knit my sweaters and socks without a pattern with the help of the book, “Knitting 101” for general size and measurent info. My sweaters are usually raglans or circular yoke so once you understand the formula with these types of sweaters (and that goes for socks, too) I find a pattern is not necessary unless the pattern I am knitting has a color work chart I want to use. I use this app as a jumping off point when I need to know how much yarn I will need. Very helpful indeed. Generally—especially if you’re a beginner—you either buy too much or not enough. If you like to design, this app takes the guesswork out of figuring how much yarn you need for your project. When I don’t have a pattern in mind but I want to buy enough yarn for a future project, I always turn to this app for an estimate of how much yarn to buy. I can quickly see how far a potential purchase will go and decide if I want to make a large or small project. The problem is this app is too limiting: • You can only select 3-8 stitches/inch • There’s no feature to enter the yarn weight (ex: 8oz yarn is significantly thicker than 2 oz yarn) • The calculation doesn’t determine number of skeins, only yardage. If there was a way to enter how many yards are on the skein of choice, the feature would be complete. • The calculation of yardage is incorrect. When I finally got a comparative pattern, the app was significantly higher: ———————— Manufacturer: ———————— 60”x70” Blanket — 13 skeins — 8oz weight yarn — 1 stitch/inch — 28 yards per skein — 364 total yards ———————— StashBot ———————— 60”x72” Blanket — Feature not available — Feature not available — Feature too limited (used 3 stitches/inch) — Feature not available — 2060 total yards (divided by 3 to determine 1 = 687 yards) So Greta idea, but poorly executed. It's a bit disappointing ### 1/5 — Waste of Money *2015-12-16* Don't pay $4.99 for this app, you'll just kick yourself for wasting money. I bought this app maybe 6-12 mo. ago and was immediately disappointed. It didn't take a week before I had deleted it. It has a nice aesthetic but you can find yardage estimation calculators for free both in the App Store and online. There is absolutely nothing in this app that justifies its price tag. Maybe if they added a few more useful features it might be worth paying $2, but as is, save your money. ### 1/5 — Won't work *2015-10-22, version 1.0* App will not open on iPhone 6s running iOS 9.1. But for the price of $4.99 I hope there will be an update or maybe an extra in the future. Even if they added an accurate measuring tape as a feature. There are several other apps out there that tell you exactly the yarn requirements you will need. Some are free.
