### 3/5 — It’s not bad but not good

*2025-05-30, version 1.6.6*

So for the pros:

AIf you want simple exercises for specific moods, they have A. Be Present B. Wake up C. Feel Alert D. Recover Quickly E. Feel Calm and F. Fall asleep and that’s it, nice and simple, other apps could be overwhelming so if you want simple this is it

B. Great for beginners, it doesn’t over complicate things or gives you too many options, good if you’re just getting into it

C. With how short the exercises are, makes it easy to start incorporating breath work into daily life

And that’s about it, it’s NOT A BAD app, but I’ll get to the cons

Cons:

A. Even if you do get overwhelmed with variety there are other CHEAPER apps that offer these breathing and more. I’d say this is an app that’s worth maybe 15$ for what you get.
B. Could never get the sound to work
C. I don’t think it ever adjusted the breath for me, I even did the test again and it was a bit better and it was all still the same
D. Exercises seemed TOO short, if they could add a customization to make exercises longer that’d probably be a good addition.

Overall it’s not a horrible app, it’s probably a small hardworking team, but the price compared to competitors and the features available make it a no for me as a more experienced breath work user. It seems like it was made for beginners or those who get overwhelmed with choices. It’s not bad but also not worth 30+$

### 3/5 — Sign up already a bad start

*2025-04-11, version 1.6.6*

It asks for DOB info, but you can’t go beyond the date that it’s currently set at. It’s bug that could have been easily avoided.

### 3/5 — Use it every day but too buggy

*2024-10-29, version 1.6.5*

This is a hard review to write because I love the exercises and consider it worth the subscription but…the app needs restarting most days before the sound works or it gets stuck on the tips screen.
It may only take a second but starting the exercise then finding there is no sound is a pain.
We are paying …but a lot, so please try to fix this!

### 4/5 — Unique short exercises, simple

*2024-06-27, version 1.6.5*

Pls add 1. A place in the app for feature requests, 2. A longer option where you can adjust the length of the exercise (eg for days where I want to do a 10-20 min meditation), 3. Make the transition sounds a bit more obvious, sometimes have to look at the app to double check if it’s transitioned to exhale or something

Otherwise, been my most used meditation app because of how short the exercises are and how simple, no extra words and distractions like quotes etc. simple, aesthetic, quick and effective

### 3/5 — Good App with Bugs

*2024-06-16, version 1.6.5*

Great training and variety in exercises. There is a bug where certain exercises countdown and just go black. Makes the app hit or miss.

### 4/5 — Wish this accommodated longer durations

*2023-10-11, version 1.5*

Would like to have 10, 15, and 20 minute sessions. And also Apple Health integration for reporting “mindful minutes.”

### 3/5 — Bugs

*2023-10-06, version 1.5*

App has been a bit buggy since the latest update—the metronome randomly goes on and off at random, and the timing skips as well

### 4/5 — I use it when I wake up, before I sleep and in between.

*2023-09-15, version 1.5*

Fantastic app, heard about it off a sound bite on YouTube with Chris Williamson talking about his morning routine. Was intrigued and am now very grateful for the app. It’s super tidy. However, I do have some feedback, the most recent update has changed the countdown sound, I find it confusing and less helpful than before, especially when I’m using the app but not looking at the screen. Now if you tell me that the sound is proven to be more helpful I’ll shut my trap but if it isn’t, well, my two cents is that I don’t like the sound. Additionally, 2x now I’ve updated my exhale counter and I’m pretty sure that each time it reset all my times back to the original short versions and I didn’t like that so I haven’t been willing to redo my exhale test since. With all that said, I’m not going anywhere l think it’s a terrific app and honestly I think it’s been incredibly useful, for example, when needing to unwind after a late shift at work and wake up for the early shift the following morning, usually I’m wired and it can take 1-2 hours, now it takes me about 1/2 hour, when using the sleeping breathwork. That’s a game changer in my books.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work?

*2023-06-13, version 1.0.4*

I purchased the trial and paid 2.79 and haven’t received any updated access to this app.

### 1/5 — App won’t recognize subscription

*2023-05-22, version 1.0.4*

I’ve paid for the subscription but the app keeps asking me to sign up again. Very confused.
The sample breathing exercises seem excellent tho.

### 1/5 — Don’t pay for this app

*2023-05-16, version 1.0.4*

I subscribed to this app as I enjoyed the free features. The subscription has not changed my app at all and therefor I am still using the free version of the app with no benefit.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Overpriced & Main Features Don’t Work

*2024-09-01, version 1.6.5*

I’ve used this app for several years, and even back then I thought it was a bit pricey for just 4 breathing exercises, but I had gotten good use out of it and was enjoying the benefits. Now that the price has been increased by £10, I really don’t feel the cost can be justified any more. Yes there are 2 additional breathing exercises now, but I don’t feel it warrants such a high price app—I have other apps that deliver way more content and value at half the cost of this. Furthermore, several features don’t work, such as the easier and harder options, which are all exactly the same timings. And regardless of how long or short your max exhale time is, the timings in the exercises don’t change to match it, which kinda defeats the whole point of the app really. We’re also being ripped off here in the UK, as the app is advertised as $34.99 (USD) a year, but we’re charged £34.99 (GBP) here, when it should be £26.65 (GBP) based on the current exchange rate. So due to all of the above, I’m now cancelling my subscription, and I’ll breath to the free stopwatch on my phone which I can self regulate in real time based on my current state, instead of breathing to a fixed timer that never changes.

### 1/5 — So disappointed

*2024-07-12, version 1.6.5*

After waiting for months for the audio issue to be fixed now I see this new feature “restart easier”… only it does nothing. After restarting easier 8 times, the timing on the exercise did not change.
I guess I’ll go and redo my breath hold time so I can make it through the calm exercise.

### 1/5 — Reset password

*2024-06-25, version 1.6.5*

I cannot even get a reset password from this team. Right after paying AGAIN the annual fee I can’t even log in. No password anywhere, no email received after requesting password reset, no response to multiple emails. Stress more?

### 1/5 — There is no FREE TRIAL

*2024-02-27*

Scammed me and charged my bank account when I signed up for the two week free trial. I reported this to apple and got a refund. I used to really love this app but after this, I’m deleting it. They messed it up anyway with the clicks that stop and start while holding breath. It used to click the whole time you’re holding breathe which was so relaxing to me. Now it just makes me stressed with that weird rhythm. And sometimes there is no sound at all and I have to refresh the app. It’s just not the same anymore. 😔

**Developer response:** Hello! We're so sorry for the inconvenience, our team has been hard at work to fix the issue you're describing, that some of our users have reported. We'll reach back out very soon with a much better app experience for you.

### 1/5 — Used to be good

*2023-12-21*

Seems like they’ve done something to the sound. It used to tick along with the count but now it ticks a few times, and it will stop and then tick some more. It’s like they added some rhythm to it instead of a steady beat. Drives me crazy! I just listened some more and it’s just like the sound is messed up. It’s been this was for months.

**Developer response:** Hi Danny, thank you for the feedback, our team is currently working on this, it should be sorted out shortly, and I'd love to reach out personally once that's happened. If you email us at support@shiftstate.io we'll keep you up to speed!

### 1/5 — $35 = rip off

*2023-11-09, version 1.5*

Not worth even $1, given the limited amount of sample breathes you get.

### 1/5 — Loved this app..

*2023-10-20, version 1.5*

…used every day and really felt the benefits. I have meditated daily for many years and dabbled with breathwork / pranayama but this simple app kept me on track and updated the intensity as my breathing improved.

And then the sound glitched, it was no longer synched with the graphics and instructional text.

I raised this with support who advised me someone would be in touch. Weeks later, still nothing.

A week after I raised the fault, the publisher decided to raise the monthly subscription from around £3 to £5.

I feel for a simple app like this, £3 is a perfect price point but - along with the sound being broken - I’ve had to let this practice go.

It’s a great app, but now far too expensive and with a possibility of the sound effects to glitch (and with no support from the developer)…

### 1/5 — Sick of Brits paying more!

*2023-08-26, version 1.0.4*

$24 a year is actually £19. Why do we have to pay £24? That’s £5 more.

### 1/5 — No subscription, no support

*2023-07-24, version 1.0.4*

I can’t unlock subscription features despite paying for them and there is no response from the developers on the help line.

### 1/5 — Not a fan

*2023-07-15, version 1.0.4*

Wasn’t impressed

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Worth every Penny

*2025-06-27, version 1.6.6*

Did one exercises and solved some long term breathing issues. I am hypnotist from the UK and I am now going to suggest this to any client feeling anxiety or wants peak performance.

### 5/5 — Helpful

*2025-04-03, version 1.6.6*

It’s very useful but is expensive for what it is

### 5/5 — Best & easiest breath work app by far

*2025-02-12, version 1.6.6*

Every breath work and mediation app I’ve ever used is over complicated and overwhelming. The UI is clean and simple. The exercises are quick and effective. Found what app I’ll be using for some time to come.

### 5/5 — It just makes me feel better

*2024-10-08, version 1.6.5*

I feel the difference! The app clearly presents effective breathwork techniques, that have helped to clear my mind and improve my breathing.

### 5/5 — Easy & Simple

*2024-09-22, version 1.6.5*

Other apps had too much going on when I was looking for something to quickly ease anxiety. I love how simple this app is. Would it be possible to add haptics for when you’re using the app somewhere the volume can’t be turned up?

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2024-09-06, version 1.6.5*

Fantastic app based on scientific research. Tried breathwrk. Can’t believe how expensive it is! And the quality is much worse.

### 5/5 — Great App! Two Requests, One Big One

*2024-03-16, version 1.5*

1: I noticed the sound for the hold has changed slightly. Is there a way to have options for the sound effects?

2: The Big One, PLEASE, can you have a section for customizable durations so I can do box breathing and other protocols? You have the best sound and graphics of all the breath training and breath work apps I have found and I want to use them for my other protocols.

Please and thank you!

### 5/5 — The best app for breathing

*2023-10-09, version 1.5*

I use this app for years and comparing many others app that I tried it’s the best in term of ux and value vs spent time

### 5/5 — Love the app!

*2023-08-14, version 1.0.4*

Excellent for managing anxiety!

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2022-12-31, version 1.0.4*

Beautiful and simple interface, great breathing exercises and progressive.
Thanks, really enjoying it! Just so you’re aware, tips on start up are not fitting the whole screen on iPhone SE 2020 on start up
