### 4/5 — Local news important

*2026-04-11, version 8.9.0*

My only objection is often the same article is run two days in a row. Seems redundant. Is there not enough new news in Salem to get fresh information every day? I do appreciate getting update on new building and changes in the Salem area 😊

### 4/5 — Statesman App

*2026-03-20, version 8.9.0*

Very buggy app. Constantly having to resize. Not at all stable. The content is good, although sparse.

### 3/5 — Statesman App

*2025-05-12, version 8.1.0*

### 4/5 — Enjoy Digital Version

*2025-03-28, version 8.1.0*

Now that I’ve got the hang of how to read the digital version, I enjoy reading it each morning. Would like more local Salem news.

### 3/5 — Salem Statesman - Eugene Register-Guard

*2025-02-15, version 8.0.0*

The two struggling Gannett publications should be combined into one publication. It is my understanding the Salem office now oversees the couple Eugene reporter’s. Salem has a slightly more reporters than Eugene.

I’ve subscribed to both for the last year. Having both, I knew most of the news in the Willamette valley. Many news stories were in both publications and just a few that were local to the each publication.

I’d recommend combining both publications into one, The Willamette Valley News. I think, if they combined two together, they wouldn’t loose subscribers and they would have a paper that would potentially draw Oregonian subscribers.

I’ve dropped the Salem Statesman because it seems redundant to subscribe to two papers that have the a lot of same news articles. I do miss some of the Statesman’s articles.

### 3/5 — I like it

*2024-03-31, version 7.6.1*

I like the local coverage.

### 2/5 — Resident

*2024-02-03, version 7.5.1*

Inconstant delivery and reporting!

### 1/5 — Awful!

*2024-01-30, version 7.5.1*

The top story pin doesn’t work. Ads come up every two bits which is irritating.

### 1/5 — Worst

*2024-01-22, version 7.5.1*

Worst news app ever. Same stories day after day and so few of them.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2023-12-28, version 7.5.1*

The Statesman Journal has continued its path toward irrelevance with this app. The content is a mashup of old and new stories, few of which are locally oriented. The old print version app at least allowed the reader to browse through the daily stories and identify and read new content. Reading the e version of the paper is almost impossible. The zoom feature doesn't work and the reader is inundated with intrusive ads.

### 1/5 — Update photos.

*2023-12-19, version 7.5.1*

Terrible!!! Picture used to highlight boys high school basketball is from 2 years ago. Update your high school sports photos. Jon Breyman has been out of high school for 2 years.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2026-06-05, version 8.10.2*

Have lost e-edition on one or more device withoutbresolution

### 1/5 — Too much Ducks!

*2025-10-01, version 8.5.4*

Seriously, if you are a Ducks fan, congrats. But if you aren’t, be ready. I have dealt and I have dealt, but tonight was all I could take. Eight of the first 10 articles were about Oregon football and basketball! If I wanted that much sports coverage, I would be on a sports app. I have done all I can. Make sure the app knows that I am not a fan, but it keeps going. I don’t know what else to do.
Yes, at least having 10% be about the Beavers would help, but again I am not on here for sports.

Also, PLEASE quit having week old stories on the daily feed. Why am I paying to see the same stuff day after day

### 1/5 — iPad App needs work/further Alpha and Beta Testing?

*2025-06-18, version 8.1.0*

Needs work.b

6/18/2025
Unable to open app. White screen, or alert and blah, blah about downloading the new app. App is already current. Waste of time.

### 1/5 — Horrible app, bring back the Print Edition!

*2025-03-20, version 8.1.0*

Hate the new app, coming from the forced retirement of the legacy Print Edition. Pinch to zoom in/out is clunky, pages are blurry and shift after you position them, lots of wasted real estate around the edges compromises viewable areas. Scrolling to next page using a swipe gesture only works half the time.

After updating this morning, hoping the “bug fixes” would fix this, it rendered the app inoperable. Upon opening it just sits there trying to load. In can’t even open in airplane mode, did they take away “offline viewing” too?

Only option right now is to view editions using a browser. Whoever designed this app clearly doesn’t use it or have any appreciation for the good things the former app did really well, like actually work.

Please fix ASAP, this app is a joke!

### 1/5 — Too much Ducks!

*2024-12-09*

Seriously, if you are a Ducks fan, congrats. But if you aren’t, be ready. I have dealt and I have dealt, but tonight was all I could take. Eight of the first 10 articles were about Oregon football and basketball! If I wanted that much sports coverage, I would be on a sports app. I have done all I can. ### 1/5 — App loses subscription regularly

*2024-09-25, version 7.12.0*

App loses subscription details regularly and needs to be rebuilt. It is a pain.

### 1/5 — Poor access

*2024-07-25, version 7.11.1*

This app does not serve the SJ well.
While the reporting of the local, state, national, international news is well done by wire services and local reporters, the technics and format of this app betrays the reporting excellence.
App issues: unreliable download; pop-up ads don ‘t close; frequently blurred text/images for articles.
SJ warrants better presentation/download format.

### 1/5 — Statesman journal online

*2024-06-18, version 7.10.0*

I am sooo frustrated by it asking me to subscribe before reading. I have subscribed for years with paper delivery and cut it down to online except two days a week. I guess I need to stop paying money for frustration. I have reached out for help and got no response.

### 1/5 — Annoying ads

*2024-05-28, version 7.9.1*

Lately a new ad for Monopoly keeps popping up in the middle of every article I read and tells me to tap the chest and see what I get. My phone is set to do not disturb and the audible ad still keeps talking on every article I read and even when I go back to the homepage too. It is incredibly frustrating.

The SJ’s on-line edition is never late, never missing and never gets soaked by the sprinkler. Easy to read - a great way to start the day.

### 5/5 — LLocal news

*2025-01-27, version 7.14.0*

I hate what’s going on in my country and I found out that subscribing to a local newspaper is a way to resist the current Millionaires Government. I subscribed in the past and now again
