## What is steep?

Find the right place for this moment.

steep is a global cafe and bar guide, written and reviewed by one person who drinks too much coffee and too much wine in too many cities. Every venue is visited and paid for out of pocket. No one pays to be featured. No one pays to be ranked higher.

THE STEEP INDEX
Every review is scored across five axes: quality (coffee or drink), atmosphere, solo-friendliness, value, and staying power. One overall score. No stars, no vague vibes, just an honest breakdown of what you're walking into.

PERFECT FOR
Every venue is tagged for the moment you're actually in: working alone, a first date, a slow weekend, people watching, no laptops, an espresso pilgrimage. Filter by what you need right now, not just by neighborhood.

WHAT'S INCLUDED, FREE
Sign in with a one-time email code (no password) and get full access to every review, city guide, interactive map, curated itinerary, and PDF city guide. Save places, mark them visited, and leave yourself notes. None of this is paywalled.

20 CITIES
Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Chiba, Taipei, Bangkok, Seoul, Lisbon, Porto, Melbourne, New York, Stockholm, Oslo, Granada, San Sebastian, Madrid, Helsinki, Tallinn, Edinburgh, and more added regularly.

BUILD A DAY
Pick a city, a time of day, and a vibe. Get a walkable route built from real reviews, not a generic list.

### 5/5 — A complete game-changer for finding cafes! A must-have for coffee lovers.

*2026-08-03*

This app is absolute heaven for coffee lovers. I used to rely heavily on Google Maps reviews, but ever since I discovered Steep, it’s been my go-to for finding great cafes.

You can easily find high-quality cafes in any area, so you never waste time second-guessing where to go.

Beyond the "Near Me" feature, I love being able to change saved spots to "Visited" status once I’ve been there. It’s been amazing for keeping track of my coffee adventures!

### 5/5 — The guide I wished existed

*2026-07-31*

I built this because I kept landing in a new city with no idea where to actually go, and every "best cafes here" list online was either paid placement or written by someone who'd clearly never set foot in the place. So I started visiting these places myself, paying out of pocket, and writing up the honest truth, good or not so good, across every city I ended up in. Right now that's cafes and bars across Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe, and beyond, and I'm adding more every week as I keep traveling.

The Steep Index scores five different things (coffee, atmosphere, whether it's good to sit alone, value, how long you can actually stay) instead of one flat star rating, because "good" means something different in a quiet Lisbon cafe than a Tokyo listening bar. And the new Situations feature answers the actual question you're asking, like where to read for hours without feeling rushed or where to find the best espresso in a city, instead of making you dig through filters.

Everything is free. No subscription, no paywall, nothing to buy anywhere in the app. If you find something wrong or a venue that's closed, tell me, I read every message.

Thanks for trying it early.
