### 4/5 — Nice app but sometimes streaks end in error

I enjoy using this app but I have come to open it twice and it tells me I’ve lost me streak.  I had fed my pet the day before and had a full streak yesterday evening but this morning my pet is sick and my streak has gone? Not sure why this is.

I REALLY tried to love this app (for months) and I love the idea but it has a major flaws, in my opinion. 

The first is that it isn’t as well connected to the pedometer on my phone/Apple Watch that reflects my actual step count. So, I will surpass my daily goal, continuously close and reopen the app to reward my pet with it’s final treat and it still doesn’t show that I’ve met the daily goal to keep my pet happy and healthy. 

Also, the biggest issue I have is that I have to manually “tend” to my pet regardless of how many steps I get. For example, I walk a lot sometimes and in a day that I got 18k+ steps, when my daily goal is much less, simply because I was too busy working or forgot to open the app to “feed” “water”, “clean” etc. my pet, it says “your pet it sick because you didn’t reach your daily step goal” which is absolutely not accurate. 

I would love to give this app another try in the future, but paying monthly for something that’s not intuitive and makes me feel bad for forgetting to simply open the app and click buttons even though I hit and surpassed my step goal just ain’t it for me.

The app does not always synch with your phone or Apple Watch. My sister and I both bought the app to be motivating but it’s depressing watching your pet get sick and die when you’ve walked all the steps and done all the things. I messaged support 3 days ago and got no response so here I am with my review. Maybe consider buying a weekly subscription to see how it works for you before committing to a whole year.

I wish you could have it as a widget to see you little guy and see how many steps you have gotten so far. The app is really great!

I exceeded my step goal but the app didn’t register it and there doesn’t seem to be any way to rectify even though my Apple health & my watch recorded the steps so my poor dinosaur is sick even though I got all my steps and then some.

**Developer response:** Hey there! Once you've reached your step goals for the day you do need to remember to open the app and feed / take care of your pet! Once you've done so your poor dinosaur will be very happy I'm sure! :)

It doesn’t work. I’ve gotten over my walk goal each day this week and it says I didn’t and my pet keeps getting sick. I’m not sure if it’s a joke and there’s actually no way to keep the pet alive.

StepPals does work! To keep your pet healthy, you need to hit your daily step goal and take care of them: feed and water them, clean up after them, and give their daily treat! If you only hit your steps but skip care, your pet will get sick. This is by design! StepPals is a walking accountability game designed to help you build the habit of reaching your steps goals. So don't forget to care for your pet as well! :)

Super nostalgic!! Reminds me of games I used to play and the pets are so cute. I have a step goal I’m trying to reach for fitness reasons, and this has helped motivate me to actually achieve it everyday. The gamification is so fun.

I expected this to be a cute little app to watch my steps… reminded me of the tomagachi!! Then found out you have to pay for it.. HECK NO.

Tried to download and subscribe and received a constant error.

Was able to create my dog and name it and that’s as far as I got lol it doesn’t tell you what the buttons are below your pad so when I clicked on one, it took me to a sub subscription page, and I was forever stuck on that. even if you close the app down when you reopen it, it takes you back to that page. So that’s as far as I got lol I guess you have to pay for this app to even try to use it.

However you are not charged until the end of the free trial and are free to cancel whenever before that time! We charge a small fee to use the app because we need to fund development and avoid ad spamming like you may have noticed in many other apps!  We also feel a small fee adds a little bit of accountability and incentive to keep your pet alive! :)

$2.99/week or $9.99/month. Kinda pricy. Good concept, but I’d rather watch ads than pay too much money for an app I’d interact with like 5 minutes a day. Uninstalled less than 10 minutes after downloading.

You gotta pay to use this app, it’s only revealed after you download it, no preview just a ‘free trial’ that lasts three days then 2.99 a week. Not even worth trying.

I saw an ad on YouTube and this app sounded perfect as my current goal is getting more steps in every day. I loved the app up until it required you to pay to continue using it. No free option whatsoever. Why even make a free app if there is no free version? Immediately uninstalled as I have no way to afford it and it was very misleading.

I like it a lot. I’ve been able to really improve my daily step count since purchasing. I don’t mind having to hit the action buttons to care for the pet since it’s very nostalgic of tamagotchis. I only wish there were more pet/animal options.

Really great app for keeping motivated to walk - even if there is days i have to lower the goal slightly! Not only that but I had an error in my app that caused me to lose my pet Riku but the support team were more than happy to be back and forth over email for a couple of days until all was fixed and I got my pet back! Time to get walking! Thanks StepPals!

I love this app, it’s been SO helpful. I just wish there was a sick mode to pause it for temporary breaks. When I got covid and could barely leave my bed I hated watching my pet get sick :(

I gladly paid for this app, solely on the grounds that nothing motivates me more than investing my hard earned dollars. I basically paid 30 bucks for a year of keeping myself accountable. I know if this was free, I’d likely not be inclined to check in on my pet, meet my goals, or challenge myself. But because I paid money for this, you can bet I’ll keep up with it. And that’s the whole point!!

I’m a very active person in terms of working out and sports but I work a sedentary job. Getting my steps in has always been an issue but now that Snookie’s life depends on it I will certainly prevail. 

Yes there’s a price for the app because people don’t want to work for free but it ain’t that bad, quit crying.
