This would be that much closer to superior if it also offered the basic direction options besides forwards: backwards, back and forth, random, etc. Also if it would remember notes when you shortened the sequence then re-lengthened it back, rather than erasing them. The app is regularly updated, and NEW features are added left, right and centre! The added features are ALWAYS completely RELEVANT to the overall use of the app - that's what I like! Unfortunately, the app being broken didn’t qualify it for a return. ### 1/5 — how? *2023-02-08, version 1.8* How am I not able to size the app so I can access all of the functions? It’s selling me 70% of the app at full price, and makes it impossible for me to use the app for the purposes I bought it for. ### 1/5 — Poor *2019-09-10* No instruction on connection to real or virtual instruments, tutorial jammed, buttons on the views of the app on the add not there. Confusing. Contacted company- got a reply explaining the app only produced sound thru say garage band which I know.- but gave no instruction on how to do this. Poor what a waste of money **Developer response:** Hi, StepBud is not an audio app, it's a MIDI app. It's already explained in the description of the app very clearly. Also, the app's title states very clearly that's a "MIDI Sequencer" app. MIDI connectivity explained in the description of the app as well. On standalone mode, the settings menu is as clear as possible for MIDI connectivity settings. It's OK if you don't know how MIDI apps working on iOS platform. I already sent you a detailed email for your options. But it's not cool blaming the developer, giving one star and writing a misleading review, I'm disappointed. ### 2/5 — Can’t send CC to my jt-4000 *2025-04-27* Can’t send CC to my jt-4000. It only received cc74 for the filter. Rest of the cc doesn’t work. With other apps no problem so it’s a StepBud problem ### 2/5 — READ BEFORE BUYING: Buy same devs Polybud *2024-05-31* There’s something wrong with the CC output. Dev says not maintaining older apps. Buy his Polybud instead. Doesn’t have same issues. ### 2/5 — For small purposes it can still work *2022-01-25* For shorter loops, this app can still quickly make a sequence happen, so don’t worry if you only need it for single sections. Even still, on an iPad, when this app is running as an auv3, the UI doesn’t fit to the window size. It’s not possible to get this app to fit inside the scene and it’s also not possible to scroll, leaving entire functions inaccessible and any sequence greater than 28 impossible. I have had to switch to a different sequencer. ### 2/5 — What? No OM? No thanks! *2019-11-25* No operating manual! No help, no website, no user forums. This might be a useful app, but if one doesn't have instructions for it, then it will be useless for you ...as it was for me. **Developer response:** Hi, you can find a tutorial section in the standalone app. Also, you can always use the support section on the settings menu of the standalone app as well. In audiobus forums, there’s a dedicated StepBud thread, just use the search bar. On youtube, there are some detailed videos as well. I hope this would be useful and enough to change your mind for updating your rating :) ### 2/5 — Kind of buggy *2019-05-03* It’s pretty good, but it seems to respond to all midi channels even when no midi inputs are enabled. It also doesn’t seem to respect any of the midi out settings. It keeps changing key based on what a synth on a different channel is doing. Difficult to use in a large MIDI setup. I just bought it ($5!!) and immediately hooked it up to a synth, synced to some of my drums in AUM and was off to techno town. I’ll take it to the studio later today and drive some modular voices with it. Snag SnakeBud too and you’ll have every sequencing option you’ll ever need for 10 bucks. ThankYouThankYouThankYou! ### 5/5 — One of the best AUv3 arps *2021-01-23* Lovely and low CPU load arpeggiator with polyrhythmic sequencers for notes, velocities, gates and other things which has a random generator. One of the best arps for semi-generative music. Works fine with chord sequencer and some granulars on the instrument. If you’ve used any kind of arp or sequencer the concepts are there and nicely done. I’m using this inside of NanoStudio 2 and it’s working great! ### 5/5 — Great app *2020-03-29* Whoever gave this a 1 star obviously didn’t know how to use this app. Works great in AUM. Can have lots of fun with polyrhythms etc using multiple instances. Spot on. ### 5/5 — Took a while to work out how to use more than one in AUM *2019-08-15* This app took a while to get the hang of. At first I couldn’t work out why it was an AUV3 as I couldn’t run more than one. I finally found out that the sequencer needs to be disabled and then re-enabled. An in app help file would be useful, and If there is one, I’ve overlooked it. Apart from the initial difficulties this is a good app and very useful for getting background sequences up and running.
