## What is Steps Widget & Activity Alerts?

Most step trackers nag you on a schedule and clash with your home screen. Steps Widget is different: a beautiful widget that blends in, and a smart reminder that only speaks up when you genuinely need it.

Sitting is the default now. Desk in the morning, desk after lunch, and by evening the day is gone. Steps Widget is built for exactly that day. It puts your step count where your eyes already go: your Home Screen, Lock Screen, and StandBy. If the number is already sitting there, the reminder has already happened.

ALWAYS THERE, NEVER IN THE WAY
A step counter you find ugly ends up on page three, and a buried reminder is no reminder. That's why Steps Widget lets you choose colours, palettes, and layouts to match your aesthetic perfectly. No ugly gray rings, no cluttered feeds. Just your steps, looking right at home.

THE SMART NUDGE
When glancing isn't enough, Nudge steps in. Instead of an hourly buzz that you’ll mute within a week, Nudge learns your actual patterns right on your device. It notices when you’ve been sitting longer than usual and shows up once—only when you’ve actually gone still. One nudge, when it’s earned, and nothing otherwise.

KEY FEATURES
• Beautiful Widgets: Highly customizable for Home Screen, Lock Screen, and StandBy.
• Smart Nudges: Learns your routine and alerts you only when you’re inactive, not on someone else's schedule.
• Apple Watch Ready: Complications, progress rings, and move reminders right on your wrist.
• Guilt-Free Tracking: No streaks to lose, no maps, no noise. Just a clean step counter.
• Insights: One thing worth noticing from your last seven days.
• iMessage Integration: Share today's steps without leaving your conversation.

NO GPS. BARELY ANY BATTERY.
Your iPhone already counts steps with its built-in motion sensors through Apple Health. Steps Widget simply shows that data—no background GPS location tracking, no constant polling, no battery drain.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your health data stays on your device. The app collects no personal identity information.

FREE TO START
Default widget styles and goal reminders are free. More customization options are available inside the app.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I show my step count on my Home Screen?
It’s easy. Long-press any empty space on your iPhone Home Screen until the apps jiggle, tap the '+' button in the top corner, search for Steps Widget, choose your favorite style, and tap Add Widget.

How do I add a step counter widget to my iPhone Lock Screen?
Install Steps Widget, then long-press your Lock Screen, tap Customize, choose Add Widgets, and select Steps Widget to see your steps without even unlocking your phone.

How does Steps Widget count my steps?
It doesn't count them separately. Your iPhone already counts every step you walk with its built-in motion sensors and stores them in Apple Health — Steps Widget reads that number and shows it wherever you want it.

Can I set my own daily walking goal?
Yes. Pick the number of steps a day that suits you, and the progress ring fills as you walk toward it.

Can it remind me to move if I've been sitting too long?
Yes. With the Nudge feature, Steps Widget nudges you when you've been still for a while or you're falling behind your daily goal.

Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. Steps Widget works on iPhone alone using Apple Health step data. With an Apple Watch you also get complications and move reminders on your wrist.

Will it drain my battery?
No. Your iPhone's motion sensors already count your steps for Apple Health. Steps Widget just displays that data — no GPS, no constant tracking.

Does it show steps in StandBy mode?
Yes. Turn your charging iPhone sideways and your step count and progress ring appear in StandBy.

### 2/5 — Step counter not accurate.

*2026-08-14*

Regularly watch the steps display one number then steps track backwards. Just saw them go from over 10,000 to 8,900. No explanation. Can’t rely on the info this is giving me

**Developer response:** (reply aug 15 update: Based on your description, could you share your settings so I can reproduce the issue? It sounds like you may have Motion Sensor enabled. That feature fills the gap between the current time and the last time the Health app synced, then automatically switches back to the final step count from the Health app once it syncs.)If you want real-time updates, there is a feature that reads directly from the motion sensor. Tapping the number below the widget on your iPhone will enable live activity, allowing you to track the number even when the app is not in the foreground. For the widget, the app receives notifications from Health every hour, and the system updates the widget based on your usage to save battery.

### 1/5 — So frustrating

*2026-07-07*

I assume Apple must make it impossible to create a simple widget that shows step count, because this app/widget is quite unbelievably bad.

**Developer response:** I'm sorry to hear you've had a frustrating experience. If you're still seeing issues, I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know what isn't working as expected. Your feedback helps me improve the app.

### 3/5 — Steps don’t update in real time

*2026-06-23, version 2.19*

Title says it all. How long does it take for your steps to tally to the overall counter?

### 1/5 — Doesn’t update on Home Screen

*2026-05-23*

This is pointless because the widget doesn’t actually update in real time. You have to click it to open the app and refresh the data. I might as well use the Health app at that point.

**Developer response:** (Update: The fix was released on 24 May 2026) Sorry for the inconvenience. There is a bug in the latest update that may be causing issues, but this will be resolved in the next update.

### 1/5 — Issues

*2026-05-22*

The app will not count my steps. Several hours into it still says I have zero steps, but my Health app says that I have 8000.

**Developer response:** (Update: The fix was released on 24 May 2026)
Sorry for the inconvenience. There is a bug in the latest update that may be causing issues, but this will be resolved in the next update.

### 5/5 — As the developer

*2026-04-25*

Move More with an Elegant Widget anywhere you like — No Pressure The Important Part Is Moving.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t update

*2026-04-21*

Doesn’t update unless I open the health app

**Developer response:** Update (24 May 2026): Widget updating has been improved.

Sorry to hear about your experience. The app updates the widget as soon as it receives new step data. However, Apple ultimately decides when Home Screen widgets refresh based on system conditions and your usage patterns, so developers can't force them to update instantly.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.10.1 — 2026-08-29

Reminder messages are now translated into six more languages.

The new reminder wording added in the last update was still appearing in English. It now shows in German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Portuguese, and Chinese.

Also in this update
• Fixed a button on the goal card that could be hard to read with some widget colors

Steps Widget is made by one person, and I read everything that comes in. If something isn't working, or there's a widget style or a feature you wish existed, there's a way to reach me in Settings under About.

### 3.10 — 2026-08-27

Widgets keep up with you better.

Every widget on screen now shares a single reading instead of each fetching its own.

Also in this update
• Steadier complications on Apple Watch
• Chart gridlines line up with the clock in Last 24-Hour mode

Hit your goal, and the nudging stops.
When your steps cross your daily goal, that day's reminder arrives as a
congratulation instead of a nudge — and it's the last you'll hear from it
until tomorrow.
Also in this update
• A refreshed app icon
• Goal reminders now count the steps your iPhone has sensed but Health
hasn't synced yet, so they stop nudging you when you've already walked
• Fixes across the app, widgets and Apple Watch

something isn't working, or there's a widget style or a feature you wish
existed, there's a way to reach me in Settings under About.

### 3.9 — 2026-08-18

Goal reminders learn better, and now they share what they learn.

The model behind your reminders reads the last 24 hours as a rolling window and works forward hour by hour, instead of guessing your total in one jump. It picks up daily, weekly and monthly patterns, and keeps adjusting as your routine moves.

It also travels. Your iPhone and Apple Watch now share a single model through iCloud, so whichever device does the training, the other gets the result — instead of each one learning you separately.

Also in this update
• Settings shows when your model was last updated, and lets you reset it
• The style picker now says which widget suits the way you read your day
• Fixes across the app, widgets and Apple Watch
