## What is Steps Widget & Walking Alert?

You spend most of your day sitting. You know walking is good for you, but between work, meetings, and life, it’s easy to forget. And most fitness apps ask for a big commitment: workout plans, memberships, calorie counting.

Steps Widget asks for much less. It puts your step count where your eyes already go, on your Home Screen, Lock Screen, and StandBy, and gives you a gentle nudge only when you’ve been sitting a little too long. Not every hour. Not on a fixed schedule.

A few hundred extra steps here and there soon become part of your day, and those small moments add up. You don’t need to become a different person. Just move a little more today than yesterday. That’s how healthy habits begin.

DESIGN IT YOUR WAY
A step counter you find ugly ends up on page three, and a buried reminder is no reminder. The style editor lets you pick colors, gradients, and layouts, give light and dark mode their own look, and save your favorite styles to reuse on any widget.

NEW: STYLE FROM A PHOTO
Pick a photo you love. Steps Widget can pull a matching color palette from it, or place the photo right behind your step count. Drag and pinch to frame it, then adjust blur and tone.

THE SMART NUDGE
When glancing isn’t enough, Nudge steps in. Instead of an hourly buzz you’ll mute within a week, it learns your routine right on your device and shows up once, only when you’ve actually gone still. One nudge, when it’s earned, and nothing otherwise.

KEY FEATURES
• Beautiful Widgets: For Home Screen, Lock Screen, and StandBy.
• Style Editor: Colors, gradients, and light and dark looks, saved as your own styles.
• Photo Styles: Turn any photo into a palette or a widget background.
• Smart Nudges: Learns your routine and alerts you only when you’re inactive, not on someone else's schedule.
• Standalone Apple Watch App: Runs on its own, with complications, progress rings, and move reminders on your wrist.
• Guilt-Free Tracking: No streaks to lose, no maps, no noise. Just a clean step counter.

NO GPS. BARELY ANY BATTERY.
Your iPhone already counts steps with its built-in motion sensors through Apple Health. Steps Widget simply shows that data—no background GPS location tracking, no constant polling, no battery drain.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your health data stays on your device. The app collects no personal identity information.

FREE TO START
Default widget styles and goal reminders are free. A subscription is only needed when you want to change your style with the style editor or photo styles.

See your steps, get a gentle nudge. Move a little more every day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I set my own daily walking goal?
Yes. Pick the number of steps a day that suits you, and the progress ring fills as you walk toward it.

Can it remind me to move if I've been sitting too long?
Yes. With the Nudge feature, Steps Widget nudges you when you've been still for a while or you're falling behind your daily goal.

Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. Steps Widget works on iPhone alone using Apple Health step data. With an Apple Watch you also get complications and move reminders on your wrist.

Does it show steps in StandBy mode?
Yes. Turn your charging iPhone sideways and your step count and progress ring appear in StandBy.

### 5/5 — From the developer

*2026-09-15*

This app simply displays your steps in Health, as well as any unmerged sensor data if you turn the switch on.

**Developer response:** Thanks a lot!

### 2/5 — Step counter not accurate.

*2026-08-14*

Regularly watch the steps display one number then steps track backwards. Just saw them go from over 10,000 to 8,900. No explanation. Can’t rely on the info this is giving me

**Developer response:** (reply aug 15 update: Based on your description, could you share your settings so I can reproduce the issue? It sounds like you may have Motion Sensor enabled. That feature fills the gap between the current time and the last time the Health app synced, then automatically switches back to the final step count from the Health app once it syncs.)If you want real-time updates, there is a feature that reads directly from the motion sensor. Tapping the number below the widget on your iPhone will enable live activity, allowing you to track the number even when the app is not in the foreground. For the widget, the app receives notifications from Health every hour, and the system updates the widget based on your usage to save battery.

### 1/5 — So frustrating

*2026-07-07*

I assume Apple must make it impossible to create a simple widget that shows step count, because this app/widget is quite unbelievably bad.

**Developer response:** I'm sorry to hear you've had a frustrating experience. If you're still seeing issues, I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know what isn't working as expected. Your feedback helps me improve the app.

### 3/5 — Steps don’t update in real time

*2026-06-23, version 2.19*

Title says it all. How long does it take for your steps to tally to the overall counter?

### 1/5 — Doesn’t update on Home Screen

*2026-05-23*

This is pointless because the widget doesn’t actually update in real time. You have to click it to open the app and refresh the data. I might as well use the Health app at that point.

**Developer response:** (Update: The fix was released on 24 May 2026) Sorry for the inconvenience. There is a bug in the latest update that may be causing issues, but this will be resolved in the next update.

### 1/5 — Issues

*2026-05-22*

The app will not count my steps. Several hours into it still says I have zero steps, but my Health app says that I have 8000.

**Developer response:** (Update: The fix was released on 24 May 2026)
Sorry for the inconvenience. There is a bug in the latest update that may be causing issues, but this will be resolved in the next update.

### 5/5 — As the developer

*2026-04-25*

Move More with an Elegant Widget anywhere you like — No Pressure The Important Part Is Moving.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t update

*2026-04-21*

Doesn’t update unless I open the health app

**Developer response:** Update (24 May 2026): Widget updating has been improved.

Sorry to hear about your experience. The app updates the widget as soon as it receives new step data. However, Apple ultimately decides when Home Screen widgets refresh based on system conditions and your usage patterns, so developers can't force them to update instantly.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 4.2 — 2026-09-16

Framing a photo feels steadier.

In the photo editor, dragging and pinching now work together without the picture jumping, and zooming keeps whatever sits in the middle of the widget in place.

Also in this update
• Duplicate for This Widget now always makes a separate copy of the style
• Deleting a style only resets the widgets it was saved to
• Photo styles are marked in the style picker, so they're easy to spot

Steps Widget is made by one person, and I read everything that comes in. If something isn't working, or there's a widget style or a feature you wish existed, there's a way to reach me in Settings under About.

### 4.1 — 2026-09-13

Share a photo style, and the photo comes with it.

When the widget you share is wearing one of your photo styles, the rest of the picture now spreads out around it, so the card reads as one photograph instead of a widget on a blank background.

Also in this update
• Swapping a style's photo keeps the framing and adjustments you already made
• Pinch to zoom works on iPad as soon as a photo opens
• Photo styles sync their pictures to your other devices more reliably
• Large photos keep more of their detail, and zoom in further

Steps Widget is made by one person, and I read everything that comes in. If something isn't working, or there's a widget style or a feature you wish existed, there's a way to reach me in Settings under About.

### 4.0 — 2026-09-08

Make a widget style out of one of your photos.

Pick a picture and Steps builds a style from it: either a palette drawn from its colors, or the photo itself behind your step count, framed how you like. Saved styles go to a library you can come back to and edit, and they follow you to your other devices along with the pictures.

Also in this update
• The app icons have been redrawn
• Accent colors are corrected for contrast, so the numbers stay readable on any style
• You can write your own caption when sharing a widget
• Custom colors no longer reset your Apple Watch widget styles

Steps Widget is made by one person, and I read everything that comes in. If something isn't working, or there's a widget style or a feature you wish existed, there's a way to reach me in Settings under About.

### 3.10.1 — 2026-08-29

Reminder messages are now translated into six more languages.

The new reminder wording added in the last update was still appearing in English. It now shows in German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Portuguese, and Chinese.

Also in this update
• Fixed a button on the goal card that could be hard to read with some widget colors

Steps Widget is made by one person, and I read everything that comes in. If something isn't working, or there's a widget style or a feature you wish existed, there's a way to reach me in Settings under About.

### 3.10 — 2026-08-27

Widgets keep up with you better.

Every widget on screen now shares a single reading instead of each fetching its own.

Also in this update
• Steadier complications on Apple Watch
• Chart gridlines line up with the clock in Last 24-Hour mode

Steps Widget is made by one person, and I read everything that comes in. If something isn't working, or there's a widget style or a feature you wish existed, there's a way to reach me in Settings under About.
