### 1/5 — Fake app

*2026-05-23*

This is NOT the Stremio app. This is a fake app impersonating Stremio. Look at the name of it carefully: S T E R M I O, it even spelled properly.

Immediately opening the app is an ad (the real Stremio app doesn’t have ads). After getting passed that, another ad popped up as a warning that my phone had been “hacked due to visiting adult websites”. If you’re careful and go to the right ones, that just doesn’t happen, but this isn’t even true anyway. It wants to you download another app to “clean” your device. I didn’t and advise others not to, as well. I deleted this app as soon as I saw that. Maybe it does work and plays media files, but I wouldn’t give it access to my device if they paid me. Stay far away from this app and find the real Stremio that won’t try to steal your data.

### 4/5 — Please Don’t Leave Blind Users Behind – Accessibility Request for VoiceOver Users

*2026-05-06*

}
Hello Stremio Team,

I hope this message reaches you well.

I am writing to you today not as a critic, but as someone who genuinely wants to love your application.

I am a totally blind iPhone user from Saudi Arabia, and like millions of blind and visually impaired people around the world, I rely completely on screen readers to access technology independently. On Apple devices, that screen reader is VoiceOver.

Many people enthusiastically recommended Stremio to me.
They described it as modern, powerful, flexible, and one of the best alternatives to traditional IPTV platforms.

Naturally, I became excited too.

I downloaded the app hoping to finally enjoy movies, anime, TV series, and streaming content independently like everyone else.

But sadly, the moment I opened the application, I realized something heartbreaking:

I could not properly use it.

Many buttons were silent.
Important controls had no labels.
Navigation felt confusing and inaccessible.
Certain sections became nearly impossible to understand without sight.

As blind users, moments like these hurt more than many people realize.

Because technology gives us freedom.
It gives us dignity.
It allows us to participate in the same digital world everyone else enjoys.

When an application is inaccessible, it quietly tells blind users:
“You were not considered.”

And I truly do not believe that was your intention.

Accessibility is not merely a compliance feature.
It is inclusion.
It is independence.
It is equal access to entertainment, storytelling, culture, and technology.

Blind users love streaming too.
We love movies.
We love anime.
We love discovering stories through sound, dialogue, music, and emotion.

We simply need the tools to access them independently.

Today I left a 3-star review on the App Store, not out of anger, but out of hope.
Hope that one day Stremio becomes accessible enough for me to proudly change that rating into 5 stars.

I would also like to respectfully provide several technical accessibility recommendations that could dramatically improve the experience for VoiceOver users on iOS.

1. Accessibility Labels

Many buttons, tabs, icons, and interactive controls appear to have missing or unclear accessibility labels.

Please ensure:

* Every interactive element has a meaningful accessibilityLabel
* Decorative elements are hidden from accessibility when appropriate
* Icons describe their actual function clearly

For example:
Instead of:
“Button”

Use:
“Play Episode”
“Search”
“Open Settings”
“Continue Watching”

2. Accessibility Traits

Please ensure UI elements expose proper accessibility traits.

Examples:

* Buttons should announce themselves as buttons
* Selected tabs should announce selected state
* Toggles should announce ON/OFF states correctly
* Progress indicators should expose playback progress information

3. Logical VoiceOver Navigation

Some screens appear difficult to navigate logically using swipe gestures.

Please improve:

* Focus order consistency * Left-to-right and top-to-bottom navigation flow
* Prevention of unexpected focus jumps
* Proper focus handling inside popups and modal windows

4. Dynamic Accessibility Notifications

When content changes dynamically, VoiceOver users should be notified properly.

Examples include:

* Loading states
* Playback changes
* Search results
* Errors
* New menus or overlays

Using accessibility notifications such as:
UIAccessibility.post(notification:)

would greatly improve usability.

5. Playback Controls Accessibility

Playback controls are extremely important for blind users.

Controls should:

* Always be reachable
* Have descriptive labels
* Properly announce playback state
* Support smooth VoiceOver interaction

Examples:
“Pause Video”
“Resume Playback”
“Seek Forward 10 Seconds”

6. Subtitle Reading Support

This is one of the most important requests.

Please consider implementing accessibility support that allows subtitles to be read aloud through VoiceOver or through an integrated text-to-speech accessibility mode.

Many blind users still enjoy foreign content such as:

* Anime
* International movies
* Foreign TV series

But subtitles are often inaccessible to us.

A feature that allows subtitle text to be exposed properly to screen readers — or optionally spoken automatically — would be revolutionary for blind users worldwide.

Even partial subtitle accessibility support would make a massive difference.

7. Custom Controls and Accessibility APIs

If Stremio uses custom UI components instead of native iOS controls, please ensure they fully implement Apple accessibility APIs correctly.

Many inaccessible applications fail because custom controls are invisible to VoiceOver.

8. Focus Management

After opening or dismissing menus and dialogs, VoiceOver focus should return predictably to the previous logical position.

9. Search Interface Accessibility

Search functionality should:

* Automatically announce focus
* Properly expose placeholder text
* Work smoothly with VoiceOver typing and dictation

10. Testing with Real Blind Users

This may be the most important recommendation of all:

Please test the application with actual blind VoiceOver users.

Accessibility issues that appear minor visually can completely block usability for blind users.

11. Accessibility Benefits Everyone

Accessibility improvements help:

* Blind users
* Low-vision users
* Elderly users
* Motor-impaired users
* Users with temporary disabilities

A truly accessible streaming platform would help Stremio stand out positively worldwide.

I sincerely believe Stremio has the potential to become one of the greatest accessible streaming applications available today if accessibility becomes part of the platform’s future vision.

Thank you very much for your time, your work, and your willingness to listen.

With respect and hope,

Jin
