## What is Stick and Split?

Stick and Split is a deceptively simple, addictive game. But what makes it so special is while they are playing it, children learn and practise their times tables, perhaps without even realising it.

Research shows the more you think about something, the more likely you are to remember it.

Most times tables games try to get children to answer simple questions like ‘what is 3 x 6?’ many, many times. The problem with this approach is it aims to get children to answer with the minimum of thought. So it’s no wonder children have to answer them thousands of times before they remember the answers. Many get bored and switch off before the memory sticks. Some children get anxious when they don’t know the answers, and research also shows feeling anxious is not a great way to make memories.

Stick and Split has been carefully designed to encourage children to think much more about multiplication and division facts. There are no right or wrong answers, so it won’t induce anxiety. Instead they need to be constantly thinking what they need to do. The more they think, the more they remember.
Reasons you’ll love Stick and Split:

- Incredibly simple game play – you’ll learn how to play it in a minute

- But with over 300 different levels, you’ll find there is so much to it

- Covers up to 12x tables and division

- Encourages children to think about what multiplication and division really mean, so they’re not just blindly “learning their times tables “

- Up to four children can have an account on the one device

- Comes with advice for grown-ups supporting a child using the game

- Stats show how much each child has played

- An overview of all the levels shows you precisely what each child has done and enables them to jump to a level that’s suitable for them

- A solid mathematical basis underpins the game

- You won’t find a more cost-effective way to keep children occupied, thinking about numbers for hours

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2022-06-24*

As a learning support teacher I LOVE this app. It teaches multiplication, division, factors and multiples without students even realizing they are learning. It’s fun to play and self correcting. A great game!

### 5/5 — Excellent Game

*2022-05-24*

This is the best math app for practicing multiplication and factoring. Ideal for 2-4 graders, but some younger students might be ready too. I’m math specialist and math coach for K-5.

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2020-12-04*

My third grader loves playing. I’m a 3rd grade teacher and find the thoughts that go through my head as I play are just what I want my students to think as they play. “How many twos make up the target number?” “I’ll count by twos to get to the target.” Thanks for making this game!

**Developer response:** Thanks so much your lovely review.

### 4/5 — Suggestions

*2020-12-01*

I like the game but wish there was more direction. I could see kids giving up when they can’t use addition to solve. I realize it’s a multiplication and division game. But wish there was some directive about how two different numbers can’t stick together. And an example of how to split in order to stick into different factors would be helpful as well I think.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the feedback. We're working to an update that will include this. Did you find the "How to" from the menu in the bottom right. Not sure you can reply here but we'd love to hear from you here https://twitter.com/SticknSplit or here https://www.facebook.com/sticknsplit/

### 4/5 — Bit slow to start

*2020-11-11*

Great fun game with thinking required early on, though there are periods of slow basic stuff. This might be appropriate for many young players, though.

**Developer response:** Thanks - yes we find younger children need to work through those basic bits in order to tackle the more challenging bits. Thanks for your review and feedback.

### 5/5 — Fun app!

*2020-10-31*

My daughter is only 3yo, but we’ve been having fun with the lower levels. Looking forward to when she play this game for herself.

**Developer response:** 3yo is super young for Stick and Split. Look forward to hearing how she does in a year or two!

### 5/5 — CRAzyMATH

*2020-10-31*

This game is very fun and students have to think strategically to combine factors...it is so much better than most fact games that just rely on memorization alone...because the bars are proportional!Students can SEE and learn proportional relationships as they practice and develop multiplicatively reasoning and relationships. Super cool game. Does not feel like work at all!

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for your kind words and great review. Hope you're still Sticking and Splitting!
