## What is StimuliApp?

StimuliApp is an app designed to create psychophysical tests with precise timing on iOS devices (iPad and iPhone). Psychophysical tests are tests to assess perceptual capabilities.
With a simple system of menus, different types of tests including the most common stimuli (gabors, random dots, images, sounds and videos among others) can be created. Programming skills are not necessary.
Features:
- Precise timing (frames are not dropped) thanks to the use of the native framework Metal, which provides a direct access to the GPU of the iOS device.
- Option to run tests at 60 or 120 Hz depending on the model of the device.
- Visual and auditory stimulation are synchronized.
- Interactive creation of stimuli using real-time preview.
- Possibility of using different spatial and time units.
- Gamma-correction features.
- Automatic report generation.

## Key features

- Precise timing with Metal framework
- 60 or 120 Hz test options
- Synchronized visual and auditory stimulation
- Interactive stimulus creation with preview
- Automatic report generation
- Gamma-correction features

## Frequently asked questions about StimuliApp

### What is StimuliApp used for?

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2025-12-09

Fixed a bug that prevented the user’s distance to the device from being displayed on screen in some scenes.

### 2.1 — 2025-11-29

It is now possible to display, for a given scene, the distance between the participant and the screen as measured by ARKit.

### 2.0 — 2025-11-19

- On ARKit-compatible devices, the app can now use the front camera to estimate the user’s viewing distance in real time.
- Added time synchronization with the Neon eye tracker and optional fiducial markers to improve boundary detection.

### 1.9 — 2021-11-05

New condition to change section according to current accuracy.
Increase the number of possible external audios to a maximum of 100.

### 1.8 — 2021-07-15
