They limit the number of articles you can view each week just to try and make you take out an expensive subscription. ### 1/5 — Scandalous *2026-08-08, version 26.7.14* Too many stories locked in by premium subscription, I think it’s diabolical that a local news app is charging to read up on what’s happing around people’s own neighbourhood. Shame on you, you could use ads to generate money not the people of Stoke on Trent’s wallets. ### 1/5 — Glad to see Sentinel name back BUT reporting content not worthy of paid subscription. *2026-07-23, version 26.7.14* Depressingly poor ‘local’ reporting from reporters not from the area. Weirdly obsessed with calling locals Stokies (no-one local does) and doesn’t understand the Sentinel newspaper and online brand remit used to be stories in North Staffs and South Cheshire. Key areas are now overlooked and forgotten - notably Newcastle under Lyme. Poor reporting, not worthy of a subscription. ### 1/5 — Deleted *2026-07-05, version 26.6.10* Decided to delete the app for what use it is. The sentinel was bad enough when you could view it for free but £4.99 a month is a joke ### 1/5 — Do not pay for this app *2026-06-03, version 26.4.8* Most articles are behind a pay gate, but just use the website and you can read it all ### 1/5 — Scandalous *2026-05-12, version 26.4.8* 20 articles a week for free, after that you have to subscribe! Absolute joke of an app. ### 2/5 — Not a patch on the Sentinel of old *2026-01-19, version 9.5.14* Live updates always promised but usually the article still shows that hours later. Also a very poor moderating tool is used to disable comments with one word out of place. If your reading this review and thinking of paying the £20 fee my advice would be don’t bother, I’ve just cancelled my subscription for next year, just wish I had done for this year. ### 2/5 — Poor Sentinel Substitute *2026-01-16, version 9.5.14* App in itself works though recently changes have made it less easy to use. Main issue is standard of the con-tent - stories syndicated from other areas, stories repeated on regular basis - shown to be current. Stems from issue of no local office and the running down of local newspapers. Dodgy links to advertising. Shame limited ways to access local newspapers. Other apps seem to have reliable content eg MEN and Derbyshire live but not SOT Live. ### 2/5 — Don’t Bother *2026-01-13* Don’t bother with this app the news is usually old and on other occasions doesn’t even relate to North Staffordshire.
