## What is Stone Cabinet?

Brush away the soil with your finger and dig up minerals. Display what you find in a cabinet that's all your own, polish specimens to a finer grade, and cut spare stones into gems.

DIG IN TWELVE COUNTRIES
Japan, the USA, Mexico, Brazil, Morocco, China, India, Madagascar, Australia, South Africa, Tanzania and Myanmar. Pick any of them on the world map; every country is open from the start.
Only stones really found in that country come out, checked against museum and geological-survey sources. Each country's specialities turn up a little more often, and finding every stone from a country earns its stamp.
Trace the little mound, feel the brush catch on stone, and watch rare finds glint through the dirt.
Geodes come out closed. You won't know what's inside until you crack them with a hammer.

COLLECT
101 minerals and gems: quartz, amethyst, jade, pyrite, fluorite, ruby, sapphire, rough diamond, Paraíba tourmaline, kunzite, iolite, meteorites and more.
Every specimen is one of a kind, with its own size, grade (Fair to Museum) and features like double terminations, phantoms and rainbows, and you can see it in the stone. A single point, a group on rock or a cluster: how it was found changes its look too. Each find is compared with the ones you already have.
The guide tells the story behind each stone's name and color, and keeps track of the localities you've dug it at. Home shows a stone of the day.
Complete sets such as the twelve birthstones, rainbow gems, the quartz family and stones fallen from the sky to earn titles, and show any set off in a theme case with a named spot for each stone. "Your goals" on the home screen shows what to aim for next.

POLISH AND CUT
Release spare specimens for shards, then spend shards to polish a specimen by rubbing it with your finger and raise its grade (up to Fine; Superb and Museum grade only come from digging).
When a stone turns up again, cut the spare rough into a gem with one tap. Rubies become ovals, emeralds get an emerald cut, opals a smooth cabochon.
Each cut is graded Fair, Good, Very Good or Excellent. Your gems go in the jewel box: 53 to collect.
Cut gems can be polished with shards too, one step at a time up to Very Good (no draw).
Your best specimen of each kind, favorites and displayed pieces are never used.

DISPLAY
Tilt any specimen with your finger to take a closer look. Shine UV light on fluorite, calcite or ruby and watch it glow.
Your cases are glass-topped walnut cabinets with twelve compartments. Name each one, arrange your favorites, and share a picture sized for posts or stories.
Every label has the locality, hardness, formula and a short fact, and the rarer stones have two.

DIGS AND PURCHASES
A free dig comes back every hour, up to five. Your first 15 digs are free.
The only purchases are packs of 10 or 100 digs.
The finds and odds for every country are shown in the app. If 19 digs in a row in the same country bring nothing rated 3 stars or better, the 20th is guaranteed to be. Digging ten bought digs at once always includes one 3-star or better.

No ads. Your finds are stored on your device, and no account is needed.
Specimen images are artwork made for this app; they are not photographs of real specimens. The map is based on Natural Earth (public domain).

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.2 — 2026-10-25

More than one look for each stone.
- A quartz can now be a single point, a group on rock or a cluster, depending on how it was found, and double terminations and phantoms show in the picture. 138 new photos for the stones and colors you find most often, and your own stones get their new looks too.
- A new 5-star stone: kosmochlor, found in Itoigawa, Japan, and in Myanmar.
- A tidier result screen: the stone's name and grade are never hidden behind the buttons.
- Up to 250 display cases, and you can put all your stored stones on display at once.
- Sparkles and light rays now settle after a few seconds.
- Small fixes.

### 3.1 — 2026-10-24

Ten new stones, and a closer look at each one.
- Ten new stones, including Paraíba tourmaline, red beryl, tsavorite, cat's-eye and chrysanthemum stone, plus six new cuts.
- Each stone's page in the guide is now split into About, Data, Where to dig and Gems, with the story behind its name and color.
- The guide now ticks the localities you've dug each stone at, and a find from a new locality says so.
- A stone of the day on Home: one of your own stones, with a fact to read.
- Four new titles for digging up Superb and Museum-grade specimens.
- More stones in South Africa, China and Myanmar. Japan now has opal (Hosaka, Fukushima) and an iron meteorite (Shirahagi, Toyama).
- Brushing now feels different for every stone: hard stones ring high and clear, soft ones knock dully. Each country's soil sounds different too.
- Digging ten at once now turns the finds over one by one, and all ten fit on one screen.
- The light before a find now shows only for 4-star and better, or Museum grade (3-star finds come up often).
- The first dig of the day no longer has better odds; it was hard to follow. Every dig now uses the odds shown under Stones and odds.
- Gems you haven't made yet are darker in the jewel box, so the ones you have stand out.
- Small fixes.

### 3.0 — 2026-10-23

Dig in twelve countries.
- Choose any of twelve countries, from Japan and the USA to Brazil and Myanmar. Every stone comes out where it is really found (checked against museum and geological-survey sources).
- Pick a country on the world map, and earn a stamp for finding every stone from it.
- 19 new stones (kunzite, iolite, sunstone and more) and new colors (fire opal, black tourmaline and more).
- 4-star and 5-star stones are now rarer and more special.
- Fossils, and lapis, larimar, pink amethyst, moldavite and Libyan glass, and blue lace and Botswana agate and blue zircon (not found in these twelve countries), no longer turn up. The stones and titles you have stay with you.
- First finds now stand out at a glance.
- The jewel box is easier to follow: see how many more stones each gem needs, and where they are often found.

### 2.8 — 2026-10-19

- Gem Gravels now opens sooner: at 12 species instead of 22, ahead of the Old Mine
- New set: Rainbow Gems. Collect one gem of each color, from red to violet, to earn a title, and show them off in a theme case
- Cutting gems is easier: spare rough on display in your cases can now be used (never your best one, favorites or stones in theme cases)
- Stones that can become gems are marked with a diamond (◇) in the guide, cases and odds list, and each find and your goals show your spares toward the next gem

### 2.7 — 2026-10-19

- A tidier layout: stones in the Cabinet, gems in the new Jewels tab, facts in the Guide
- New theme cases: collect and display Birthstones, Fossils, the Quartz Family and more, with a named spot for each stone. New finds fill their spot automatically
- "All stones" in the Cabinet can now show only the stones that aren't on display
- The jewel box shows each gem's cut quality, from Fair to Excellent
- Filter the guide by the grade of your best stone (Museum, Superb and so on)
- Each stone in the guide now has a "Best so far" record of the grades, colors and features you've found. It never goes down, even when you release spares
- With 10 or more bought digs, "Dig 10 at once" is now the main button
