And even when I paid for Premium which supposedly says “unlimited history”, the history is still deleted. Which is very sad since I thought I could rely on Stoop. ### 4/5 — Exactly what I was looking for *2022-03-15* I really love the app, it saved my main inbox from blowing out of proportion. One request is to fix the Discussion tab, as reply’s / conversations on received newsletters do not render. Also, it would be good to add an option for a feed like experience. ### 2/5 — Lack of updates ruined this app *2021-10-14, version 2.1.4* Latest update has made this app terrible, and the lack of any updates since is really frustrating. I continue to use it because as of now it’s the only app of its kind, but the fact that the latest update was 6 months ago is a bit ridiculous. ### 2/5 — Very poor execution of a good idea *2021-09-09* The UI/UX of this app is brutal. I would suggest hiring an actual iOS programmer and scrub this with some paid customer feedback. We’re out here and would like you to succeed. Painful app. ### 2/5 — Update is disappointing *2020-11-29, version 2.1.1* Was hoping for a lot more after they disappeared for a year. Folders still don’t let you see which newsletters they contain or let you add newsletters, which makes organizing hard. They GOT RID of the auto archive feature instead of fixing it. Seems like they broke the feature that opened the app to a home folder. The UI updates are nice I guess, but are mostly superficial. Still a good concept with mediocre execution. For most I think you’re better off just sticking with normal email. ### 2/5 — The New Update (Nov. 2020) is Terrible *2020-11-29, version 2.1.1* Long time user of Stoop and I absolutely love this app for managing my newsletter subscriptions. However several key features that made this app so great in the past have either been removed or are so hidden in folders that this app isn’t worth using anymore. Instead of opening up to your daily newsletters you’re presented with all the app’s folders, and you have to manually enter the Unread Section. The swipe features to archive a newsletter aren’t available or working (I’m not too sure what’s going on here). Forced Dark or Light mode system mirroring (there isn’t an option to choose) is convenient except when you only want to use Stoop in a mode different than your iOS settings. The + button on the top right has the exact same options as the bottom half of the home page when you open the app...why take us there if the settings are ALWAYS in the top right corner?! Worst of all the newsletter discovery has been reduced so much I’m not sure why they didn’t just kill it with the other features they removed. Sadly this is still one of the best newsletter readers in the App Store, but honestly.... Why can’t we choose: what screen we open to on the app, if we want dark or light mode and if we want swipe actions? If I find out you’re moving these features to Stoop Premium... ### 4/5 — Stoop is BACK! *2020-11-25, version 2.1.0* Very pleased to see some signs of life with the new 2.1 update for iPad. Enjoying the new layout and features. Signed up for premium his month after demoing the service for a few months prior. My only complaints are * Several emails to support have gone unanswered * Merge function is buggy with the web interface ### 3/5 — Useful but not easy to read in *2020-11-18* For an app whose whole premise is reading email newsletters, the UI for displaying emails needs some work. There isn’t enough space at the margins, the fonts vary widely, sometimes the font is a tiny serif typeface that is tiring on the eyes and there’s no customization, you can’t even increase the font size. This app would benefit greatly from a “reader view” mode with ability to customize the typography like in Instapaper or Kindle. I’d upgrade to a subscription for that. My only other gripe is the app icon on the home screen doesn’t show new emails. Otherwise this is a great service and has really helped me declutter my inbox by moving email newsletters over to a dedicated place. Thank you for making it! ### 4/5 — Brilliant concept, still a bit buggy *2020-09-21, version 2.0.0* I love the concept of this app, and almost immediately upgraded to premium. As a news junkie, this app has helped me discipline my reading habits (somewhat). The experience of being able to read newsletters in one focused location is superb. There are still some UI tweaks to be fixed, which I’ve written to the developers about directly. If you love newsletters, get this app, and support these developers! It is worth the time and effort to get it setup right. Pro tip: for many news publishers (WSJ!), you’ll need to change your account email with them to your “@stoopinbox.com” address in order to receive them correctly. ### 2/5 — No copy/paste. Super disappointing. *2020-05-15, version 2.0.0* Every other reading app I know of has the ability to select and copy text. This app is useless to me if I can’t copy snippets from my own emails to share with others. ### 4/5 — Seems what i need *2020-04-27, version 2.0.0* I just downloaded and this app seems like exactly what i needed. Everything works as expected. Only suggestion i have is that side bar is not intuitive, when i landed on first page after signing i was lost. So may be a button to the side bar would be helpful. Anyways thanks for making this app. ### 3/5 — Great concept, significant issue for my use *2020-01-24, version 2.0.0* I subscribe to the New York Times and also to their daily briefing email, which I receive via Stoop along with other newsletters. For ingesting the newsletter content, Stoop is great! And I love having a few less emails hit my inbox. However if I try to click through to articles from the NYT there seems to be an issue when Stoop attempts to hand me off through the Google auth which yields a failure and an “unexpected argument” error. This I can’t click through and have to go refund the desired article. Addressing this issue would improve the usability and value of Stoop for me. If you’re out there, thanks for listening! ### 2/5 — Good concept but... *2019-10-10, version 2.0.0* I love the concept of this app where it allows me to declutter my inbox (mainly used for work) and keep all my newsletters separate. The two areas that I have dissatisfaction is 1.) No dark mode for free users. I understand the purpose of the yearly charge for premium features. A lot of the premium features are worth paying for for those who want more organizational features, instapaper support, etc. But since dark mode is standard for all apps in ios13, it makes the base level of this app feel incomplete. Maybe the developers will add it into the free version in the future since the release of ios13 was pretty recent and dark mode for just premium users made sense as a nice extra in the past. 2.) You cannot delete newsletters. You can only archive them. This felt strange since delete is a function that makes sense for certain situations. This also poses some security concerns since I don’t know what the company does with my data. How long does it stay on their servers? Will they ever get deleted permanently? ### 3/5 — Good but charging for iOS 13 features *2019-10-09, version 2.0.0* This is an excellent idea and overall a solid implementation, but still charging for dark mode, which pretty much every other app offers for free since the iOS 13 upgrade. ### 2/5 — Great idea, horrible performance *2019-03-26, version 1.2.9* I love the idea of a dedicated app to handle my newsletters. Stoop does a great job of doing this, no complaints about the design or functionality. However, the performance and battery issues are too bad to ignore. This app is insanely battery draining. Simply using it to read a few newsletters kills my battery. Fix this issue, and it's one of my favorite apps. Until that problem is fixed, I'm going to have to uninstall it. ### 4/5 — Great app *2019-03-13, version 1.2.8* But the previous ui design was so much better! ### 3/5 — Really great! *2019-02-16, version 1.2.6* I love Stoop and appreciate the continued work pushing out features. I’m confused by the Pocket and Instapaper integrations, though. I’m unable to sign in to Instapaper via Stoop, which is especially frustrating given that I have the app installed and could just use the share sheet if it were available... Why not drop a share button into the webview and let us choose where we send things? As it stands I have to open the link in Safari, share to wherever, and then go back to Stoop. Stoops “saved links” feature is very much in a beta state, which is fine, but it should be labeled as such. As-is, when I archive a link, one of the following occurs: the article is archived; a different article is archived; nothing happens. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — I feel scammed *2021-09-06, version 2.1.4* Bought premium for folders but the feature does not work. Swipe gestures are gone so it is very hard to remove individual newsletter. Video stutter when you start feels like 1990 tv...GUI is trouble some where you click on settings it open something else. There is no way to limit the number of newsletter stay in the inbox. ### 1/5 — If you are not American, forget it *2020-06-15* Pointless to anyone who lives in one of the 200 other countries on the planet ### 1/5 — We had a good run *2019-12-03, version 2.0.0* I decided to delete both my account and the app. It’s a nice concept but I’m disappointed the developers choose to keep dark mode as a premium feature even though it’s a system feature now. This is a violation of App Store Review Guidelines. ### 1/5 — Why is there no delete? *2019-07-15, version 1.3.1* I love this app, sort of. The shady thing is that they continuously update, give no UX to guide or disclose ui changes, and for some reason are on the fence about giving users a Trash or delete option for our stoop. Let’s just be clear that Stoop users expect the same basic features as email. We should be able to fully edit, access, create AND DELETE our emails and subscriptions. I’m not sure what you’re doing with our emails that makes it imperative that they never be destroyed even if a user wants to clear their email. If I find an alternative I will be deleting this app. ### 1/5 — Not able to setup account *2019-07-04, version 1.2.9* Setup asks me to enter email address and username and then gives an error about username although I gave it in email address format. What should be the username so that I can setup the account? ### 1/5 — Love the Concept and the App When It Works *2019-06-16, version 1.2.9* The promise of decluttering my inbox while coagulating important information sounded great and worked great until the last app update. Now my app crashes constantly on open. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Not sure why the newsletters are shown as cards at the top Also, when you visit a link, there's no way to share the link or go back. ### 1/5 — DON’T UPGRADE - NO SUPPORT even for a Premium Customer!! *2019-04-21, version 1.2.9* So I downloaded the app a couple of months ago and all was well for a few days so decided to support the developer and upgrade to premium. About 6 weeks ago the app started to crash on startup on both my iPad and iPhone. Did the usual uninstall and reinstall but made no difference. Since then l have sent 4 MESSAGES to support and STILL don’t have a response....and STILL can’t use the app, so can’t read any of my emails. Disgusting service...and wouldn’t recommend to ANYONE!!! Doing so allows me to focus on work / correspondence when I’m doing email, without the distraction of newsletters, and enables me to read my newsletters without the distraction of all my emails. I love having a dedicated app for newsletters and promotional emails. I know Gmail and others try to sort your emails by type but I always found it annoying when they got things wrong. I also didn’t like having to create my own alternate email or custom filters to manage. Stoop makes it easy to manage from a custom app, email and subscription controls.
