The user interface could be cleaner. It could be easier to disable the extension on the current website with one click rather than first manually creating a profile. The menus and options are so extensive that it can be hard to know where things are and what’s enabled. Still, a helpful extension. **Developer response:** To clarify, it sounds like you're talking about the Firefox extension. The other web browsers don't require this process. Unfortunately, Firefox makes its own copy of the extension, so the extension doesn't update automatically when the StopTheMadness Pro Mac app updates. ### 5/5 — Active Dev *2026-05-05, version 25.5* Rare to find apps that are nostalgic to the old days. Dev is very responsive, and regularly updates app By far my most used feature is probably the copy on hover. Right-clicking for copy isn't a huge inconvenience individually, but when you have to copy long lists of links or especially link titles, it's such a decrease in friction with this app. Has other fantastic features such as hotkey protection (to stop websites stealing your key binds), right-click protection, a basic element viewer for those annoying sticky elements on mobile websites, bringing images to the front of the page for interaction, etc. Most functions of the app can be replicated with userscripts, but this app provides a convenient "toolkit" that seamlessly removes so many little annoyances about the modern "thanks Google/Shopify now web standards are optional and everything is just an ugly, slow javascript animation" web ### 3/5 — You stop the madness! 🛑😖 *2026-03-27, version 25.1* Over the past few days, I have installed Sink It for Reddit and X. Pleased to report that I was UTTERLY wrong and that this app is a work of broad-spectrum genius, devoted to giving you back control every time a web app feels like taking it from you. After using it for a month or two you start to forget just how much it solves and decomplicates about the daily experience of using the internet — then you use someone else’s computer for a few minutes and are reminded how creepingly demoralising the process without it can be. Les préfixes, les suffixes ?Parfois, c’est un vrai casse-tête de le deviner. Stop The Madness nous l’indique clairement, sans même qu’on pense à lui demander. ### 5/5 — The most powerful Safari extension I’ve ever used! *2026-02-20* Every time I think I know everything about this amazing and powerful extension I’m proven wrong by finding yet another feature! ### 5/5 — GOD *2026-02-03* GOAT ### 5/5 — Worth The Money! *2026-01-08* I dithered for nearly a year over spending $15 on an extension but the ubiquity of autoplay video despite toggling the useless iOS settings that are supposed to stop these intrusions and recent changes at the NYTimes which include pop-up banners pestering me, a multi-decade subscriber, to download the app even though I've stubbornly refused to do so ever since it was introduced in the late 2000s and now an autoscroll-to-top-of-page feature after I finish an article and return to the front page (WHY?), I finally caved and shelled out the cash for Stop The Madness. Indeed, it does! After a bit of fiddling with settings, no more autoplay videos, EVER (looking at you, HuffPost and local TV news sites). No more forcing me back over old territory when I just want to pick up where I left off scrolling down the front page. And no more pop-ups badgering me to download yet another walled-garden app when a single, well-designed, web browser should do the job of multiple apps. Installed together with two of the best ad-blocking extensions along with another which forces recalcitrant websites that ignore my system's dark mode, Stop The Madness provides the finishing touches needed for web browsing that feels like the early glory days of exploring The Web that old-schoolers like me remember (okay, maybe not "glory" but it certainly wasn't as bad in terms of relentless advertising, incessant video, and blatant defiance of user preferences). Thank you, brave and persevering indie developer, for vastly improving the netizen experience! ### 4/5 — Issue with latest update *2026-01-07, version 24.0* Been using StopTheMadness since its release and it’s done a wonderful job but I’ve had an issue since the version 24 update; the stop autoplay option now breaks all playback of Twitch.tv VODs, where before it worked as expected. ### 5/5 — Less yelling and cursing *2025-11-14* This is one of those apps that quietly runs in the background, doing its thing, limiting the creative (invasive, hostile) ways websites hide their content with pop-overs/unders, ads with video and sound that cannot be silenced, blocking copy/paste, and so much more. You know it's a great app when you happen to be on Windows without it and realize how obnoxious Edge can be. ### 5/5 — Wow. I can’t believe this exists. *2025-11-12* I thought I was expecting oddities and no way to achieve them on a browser. No. Somebody (this man here) has got your back. £15 seems a lot of money for an app that’s got no practically no ‘shiny UI’, but what it does it does it very well. It doesn’t phone home. It doesn’t collects analytics, it doesn’t betray me, and just tries to be helpful. We ack the possible bugs if we toggle settings on/off and that’s totally ok. I can probably solve whatever issue you're experiencing, if you contact support. Also, I'm not sure what free solutions you're referring to. There's nothing else comparable to StopTheMadness Pro, free or paid. ### 1/5 — Constantly crashes *2025-11-25, version 23.0* If you're buying this to stop video auto-play on reddit dot com then I have some bad news for you. It works (auto play stops) but the moment you scroll it crashes the website. No matter what subreddit you browse. If they can’t even get that right, why would I trust their product?? ### 1/5 — Breaks a lot of things *2024-10-23* The description is very misleading, no trial option. Based on so many good reviews and online research I decided to pay for the all since there is no trial. Now I know that no trial is a red flag. After I installed it I started having issues with the defaults. The more options I turned off the issues disappeared. Overall is not worth the price just for a limited number of websites. Not even google page opens correctly with this enabled. I was looking for a refund and I followed the instructions to file a claim with Apple. Good luck getting a refund since Apple declined the claim twice and now I need ro dispute the charges. Don't buy this app without a trial to make sure it works for your use scenario and that it actually benefits you because it breaks more things than it claims to resolve. **Developer response:** Please contact support. I'm very good at resolving customer issues, if you just reach out for help. Why do you say "The description is very misleading"? That's simply false. Also, it's not a red flag that there's no trial. I'd love to offer a trial, but the App Store unfortunately doesn't support trials for paid apps. Only apps that are "free" can have trials for an In App Purchase. StopTheMadness Pro is well-reviewed not only here but in the news media. "Not even google page opens correctly" isn't a problem that I've seen for myself or from other customers, but again, I can investigate if you contact support. ### 1/5 — Extension? *2024-10-16, version 10.0* The fact that you have to install an browser extension in order to use this software is a problem and if it was made clear BEFORE I purchased, I would not have purchased the software based on an online recommendation I heard. Your privacy statement doesn’t assure privacy for people using the extension, it’s words, that’s all. I will try to get a refund but I suspect Apple will not allow it like they do with most software, and it will be for some arbitrary reason that makes no sense. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Makes the Web Usable Again *2026-08-20* Thanks to this app, many annoying (and sometimes abusive) behaviors of many websites are now neutered, making them browsable again. Take a bit of getting used to however, for those who aren’t afraid of web codes and understanding with a little trial and error, your efforts will be rewarded with far fewer pop ups!
