You don't want to do that. Only allow StopTheScript permission to access websites where you want to disable JavaScript. ### 5/5 — Very useful *2024-10-02* I really like the simplicity of the app and the value it adds to my usage ### 2/5 — Cumbersome on MacOS, doesn' work on iPadOS *2024-07-02* I was hopeful, but now disapointed. It's just too cumbersome to be practical, especially in view of how well NoScript works in Firefox. Oddly, while it appears to work (Ialbiet still very cumbersome) on iOS, it apears stuck in "always on" mode on iPadOS, even with the same settings. Both systems are the current release version, 17.5.1. **Developer response:** You can switch from always on to "Ask" in Safari Extensions Settings. Please contact support with any issues. This reviewer never contacted support. Safari extensions are more limited than Firefox extensions, so NoScript can't be replicated exactly. ### 5/5 — Yay it actually works! *2023-12-24* Glad I found it, it actually works. I especially love the no-nonsense permission-based blocking which preserves security since this is an extension from a developer I don't know. Great app, thank you for sharing. ### 5/5 — Freedom from invasive and aggressive internet activity *2023-11-19* Stop the script combined with stop the madness is the only solution on iPhone that can deal with todays emerging cybersecurity threats within Safari. Run it full time, if it blocks a site completely ie most Meta products maybe you should not be using those sites in the first place. ### 4/5 — Difficult to use *2023-11-18* A wonderful extension that allows me to selectively deactivate Javascript. I can switch off JS with a button and the website usually runs more smoothly, faster and more efficiently afterwards. If errors occur, I switch StopTheScript off again and everything is as before. Together with StopTheFonts and StopTheMadness, this creates a highly customized surfing experience. The big problem with the extension is that Safari does not synchronize the approved websites. So if I switch off Javascript via StopTheScript on the Mac, this unfortunately does not happen on the iPhone. There I have to call up the same page, open the menu and activate StopTheScript there too. This is annoying, tedious and anything but ideal. Especially as I always have to remember to synchronize the websites from the Mac manually. Perhaps a workaround or another solution will be found at some point. It really makes the web usable again and for folks like me on a metered connection, it ensures that I'm not paying for crap that I never even wanted. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Breaks YouTube? *2026-03-22* Horrible app. I installed it and went to YouTube which no longer loads. Deleted the app. Reinstalled again followed instructions EXACTLY. Same result. Waste of money. Avoid John Gruber recommendations!! **Developer response:** Did you allow StopTheScript on all websites? The instructions actually warn not to do that. Some websites do require JavaScript, including YouTube, so you don't want to allow StopTheScript there. This app will keep you “booted” from the internet unless you fully disable it, What is the point? Just do go online if you don’t want global use the internet rather than pay for this app to not go online, Tbs only way my browser worked is with this app disabled. Wasted my money ### 1/5 — Worthless - all or nothing garbage app *2023-07-17* Either blocks EVERYTHING or nothing at all. You can’t whitelist and it won’t let websites load any embedded JavaScript, which basically every website has. It does not block cookie notifications at all. The goal and the claim here is to block java popups that are initially hidden but arrive after a few seconds asking for an email or subscription, but it’s a blunt instrument that blocks ALL java content from websites without the ability to whitelist, rendering it effectively worthless. **Developer response:** I'm sorry that StopTheScript doesn't meet your specific needs, but I and other users do find it useful, and it's doing exactly what is advertised in the App Store description: "StopTheScript is a Safari extension for iOS and iPadOS that stops all JavaScript on your selected websites. StopTheScript is the only Safari extension that stops inline JavaScript on the web page as well as externally loaded JavaScript." ### 2/5 — Good on macOS, but not great on iOS *2026-04-10, version 3.1* On macOS, you can disable javascript on all websites and only enable javascript on some websites that require it. However, iOS cannot do this. Yes there is a filter (in safari extension settings) in iOS where you can enable javascript for a select website and keep all other websites without javascript, but this is bugged for some reason and does not work unlike macOS. So if you’re solely using this for macOS, this is a good app. However, if you need it for iOS as well, you should decide if you need the feature I explained. If that’s not important for you, then it’s good for iOS as well. ### 2/5 — Could be better *2025-12-11* It’s functional, but virtually useless in the day to day. While I realize it is not encouraged to just block everything by default due to usability, concerns Blocking JavaScript by default is a measure that those who care about security and also has the perk of making your phone more intentional. I think it would be better to have forms of manually whitelisting. Instead of actively discouraging blocking.
