### 4/5 — Apps good

*2026-06-30*

Been using it for years! What’s going on with the app blowing everything up? The last update made everything to large. Please fix!

### 3/5 — Dark mode gone?

*2022-09-21, version 6.8.0*

Bring back dark mode!!

### 4/5 — Very good app

*2022-04-13*

I like this app! It has all the info I need on my phone except current temp and wind conditions missing on my local page. I’m sure this will be addressed soon with updates and I can’t wait until I can put it on my Apple Watch.
I like to track the weather where my kids live and I can successfully track where they live.
A great beginning!

### 4/5 — Apple

*2021-06-17, version 6.3.2*

Active Self Protection

### 3/5 — Please Update

*2021-05-26, version 6.3.2*

This app needs to be updated to reflect the new iPhone screens.

### 4/5 — Where is the BTI on iOS?!?! :(

*2019-06-22*

Have this app on my Samsung Chromebook and love it! So I thought it would great for my new iPad too! While, yes it’s still a fantastic app, I was a little disappointed that the iOS version doesn’t have the Baron Tornado Index(BTI) on the storm tracks! I would love for that to make its way to the iOS version! Make it happen! Pretty please!?

### 2/5 — Standard Weather App.

*2018-07-25, version 3.16.4*

Standard weather app with no real improvement above and beyond other weather apps.
Weather forecasts are based regional area, most people are looking for a more condensed area for a better forecast.
Register current conditions is poor as the reporting station is over 20 miles from my home, and current weather conditions can be dramatically different in that size of area. Seen 2 apps that use closer weather stations/larger pool of stations for better conditions report for your area, stations are continuously evaluated for correct conditions.
Example, currently 0% cloud covering app, and my home is at 60% cloud cover. I’ll expect huge discrepancy during actual thunderstorms, or most weather events.
Radar was above my expectations, and works well. But this morning noted “range of radar” lines (very apparent) appearing as storms moved off the NWS Omaha radar site and “disappeared” in western Iowa and before Des Moines NWS Radar site picked them up. Serious concern for tracking storms and intensity if I can’t see them. This can be a deal breaker, other apps have shown better access to more radar data.
Love the integration of the NWS storm prediction center in Norman, OK severe weather outlooks.
A lot of “fluff” really don’t need bios of people, one bio being more history of liking weather, than a background of education, and field experience. I understand the plug and relationship of the New Way Ford, but a little overkill, and comes off “sappy” to me. Just feel a weather app should be the leader of weather information. NOT an equal, Weather app / Buy a New Vehicle here app.
A little confusing at the drop down list when you go to Storm Hunter on the drop down, a second drop down shows up. Some of that information could be condensed into the first drop down. Thus eliminating a second drop down.
Live streaming is good, just research out all live streaming and that way you can jump from different apps or different chase companies to get the best view.
John McLaughlin is a well known meteorologist and respected, big plus for the app.
Safety Net alerts, hasn’t been checked, but this app overall is in the middle of the pack, so I expect standard alert. Sometimes spot on and sometimes questionable delays. (edit coming)
Links, useless doesn’t take you to any independent sources. Just there own sites again. Or if you want to switch gears and buy a car. Totally understand the advertising and funding the app and network.
Good overall flow to the app, and has good potential. Hopefully the rough edges will be smoothed, and give a little more of a leader of the pack feel, than just another average in the pack app.
I like my weather apps or tools, while this app is great information and could stand alone if you want one egg in your basket. But in Public Safety over 30+ years. I love to have an assortment of tools to go to if needed.

### 5/5 — Awesome app!

*2018-06-21*

One of the best weather apps I’ve ever used! So many features it’s easy to customize what you want to see and get alerts for. So helpful!

### 5/5 — Great App for Iowans!

*2018-06-14*

The radar updates much quicker than others that use the NEXRAD sites. When using the storm tracks you can adjust by locale size which is a cool feature.

### 4/5 — LOVE THIS APP!!! But...

*2018-02-06, version 3.16.2*

This app is AMAZING! It is by far my favorite weather app. I will give 5 stars when iPhone X optimization is added!

### 5/5 — Fantastic weather app

*2018-01-10*

It was developed by John McLaughlin, one of the best meteorologists in the country, so you know this is going to be a superior app. There are tons of features for advanced weather enthusiasts, yet they went out of the way to make it very user friendly for novices. Highly recommended!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashing

*2025-10-29, version 6.8.2*

It stopped working

### 1/5 — What happen?

*2024-06-23*

This used to be a great app. Ran smooth, solid radar, no glitches. But NOW this app seems really broke. It’s crashes all the time or doesn’t load, radar map is super glitchy and lags horrible. It’s just not a very user friendly app anymore. It had great potential but someone needs to get their act together and fix it or it’s a goner

### 1/5 — App won’t load

*2023-10-25, version 6.8.0*

App refuses to load since last apple update. Please fix ASAP!

### 1/5 — You’re update is awful

*2023-05-13*

With the new update it looks like a grade schooler did the drawing of the map. I have to reset everything. It’s hard to follow now.

### 1/5 — Lag

*2022-11-16, version 6.8.0*

So much lag it is almost unusable.

### 1/5 — Used to me my favorite

*2022-10-13, version 6.8.0*

My favorite app until the most recent update. Don’t like it anymore

### 1/5 — Poor For Most Everyone

*2017-10-12, version 3.16.1*

EVERYTHING ON HERE IS STUFF YOU GET FROM A BASIC WEATHER APP, THIS APP IS NOTHING SPECIAL, DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE AND DONT DOWLOAD.
So, If youre like me, and like to study wind shear/velocity, reflectivity maps, etc to see what storm may become tornadic, this app isnt for you, UNLESS, youre in ONE OF ONLY 4 CITIES this app actually has velocity maps for.

### 2/5 — Won’t open

*2023-10-14*

Why does it take 3 or 4 times before I can open the app? I go the other apps first before I open this one

### 2/5 — Remove a location?

*2023-07-18*

I just noticed Yankee Stadium is added to my location list. I did not add it.
Why is it easy to add a new location but there is no obvious way to remove one? I sent a message asking how to remove a location and hoping to get a response.

### 2/5 — 3day forecast needs work

*2019-11-16, version 6.3.2*

‘Today’ forecast header: Mostly cloudy.
First line of forecast description: Partly cloudy skies.
Not really confident of any accuracy, when something as simple as this is incorrect.....

### 5/5 — Storm hunter WX review

*2025-08-10*

I’ve been using this app for a while now and it’s been great. Every time I feel a change in the weather I come on The app and look on the radar. I like the many options you can do with the radar as well. I like the notification that they have when lighting is dedicated within 15 miles it can be sunny where I’m at then a big thunderstorm 15 miles or less away 😂 and they haven’t asked for money which is goated

### 5/5 — Best Weather App

*2025-04-19*

I have 6 weather apps on my phone and this is my favorite! It’s easy to use, reliable and convenient. I use the radar all the time. Lots of options. Get it! You’ll love it. By far my favorite weather app.

### 5/5 — great weather app!!

*2023-05-24*

i've tried many different weather apps over many years and by far this is the best i've used to date! it's very straightforward without all the nonsensical gibberish and flash most of the other weather apps seem to think is needed! please don't change from your basic layout or functionality as in my humble opinion you've already achieved perfection, thanks!!

### 5/5 — Excellent Update!

*2022-09-28, version 6.8.0*

Best Weather App!

### 5/5 — Warns faster than other apps

*2021-10-13*

I downloaded this about a month ago. We have some bad weather tonight. All apps said non tornadic except this one warned me otherwise. I thought it was a bum app until my other apps warned me about the tornado about 10mins later. So this app was actually warning me before anyone else even knew.

### 5/5 — Good

*2020-11-15, version 6.3.2*

Best weather app ever

### 5/5 — Great app for weather

*2019-06-14, version 5.0.0*

Great app!!! Highly recommend

### 5/5 — Found a tornado

*2019-03-05*

This app is awesome. The feature that shows mesocyclone data is so useful. Last June, I spotted a supercell on the map that was just 10 miles north of my house. Drove up the road and the app showed s tornado vortex signature and sure enough 5 minutes later it dropped a beautiful low precip EF3 that sat on the ground for an hour. No injuries too! I was there before the storm was even tornado warned thanks to the app. Also, tornado-genesis is amazing.

### 5/5 — My go-to weather app

*2018-08-15*

This is a great free app and provides way more info than the weather channel one that’s standard on iPhones. I love how you can click on the storm and view the height, speed, hail, etc. I live SW of Marshalltown and this app sent me tornado alerts prior to the emergency alert from the NWS.

Edited to add my biggest complaint, which may not be a big deal for some: the forecasts are very liberal with the rain forecasting. My other apps will say a slight chance and this app will say like 80% all day, and it doesn’t rain. I just check my other apps to compare.

I hope in the future John makes some tutorials or maybe a paid version for those wanting to get into hobby meteorology, for lack of a better term. Most weather companies/apps explain things in a very watered down way, so I would definitely be interested in something like that!

### 5/5 — Play feature

*2018-06-30*

Only problem with this whole app is that when you zoom in or out or slide to another area the radar pauses and you have to press play each time you do something. Other then that best Weather app on the market
