I adore this app but I hate that I can only use it on Apple/my phone. It’s efficient, easy to use and my go to whenever I get a new story idea but the fact that I can’t use it on my computer is tragic!

Application très intéressante mais la recherche est indigente car limitée aux sujets et aux onglets mais sans définir les emplacements. On peut donc pas chercher un mot dans ce qui est rédigé, il manque une recherche générale c’est évident. 
Comment avoir un accès rapide à une description ou à une ligne particulière ?
Bravo pour votre application mais là c’est vraiment regrettable.

Actuellement, il existe déjà un moyen de rechercher dans le texte si vous utilisez un clavier externe : il vous suffit d'appuyer sur Cmd + F pour ouvrir la barre de recherche.

Cependant, il est vrai que cette fonction est inaccessible sans clavier externe. Nous nous sommes donc mis au travail et tout est prêt pour la prochaine mise à jour, dans laquelle vous trouverez un bouton de recherche directement sur la barre du clavier à l'écran.

I cannot get it to sinc up even though I’ve tried numerous times, even deleting the app. The developers are trying to fix this issue, and I fully appreciate that.

That said.. your help section most definitely seems the place to go. It’s packed with information from what I’ve seen. Wonderful response on your side, to bring me there.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:

Been using this app since 2019 for story planning of our VR game project, w/ a story script - worked excellent for that! 

 Now in 2023… 

I am writing an interactive fiction - I wanted to write the entire story here in this app… Turns out, Story Planner app is not good at all for story writing. 

This confused me.. I assumed it did, because The App Store description, doesn't state: “not meant for actual story writing” 

The "Storyline/Premise" section misled me. It's just one row, like an Excel sheet, and other elements (project tags, Theme & Topic..etc) these all are very distracting while typing in the "Storyline/Premise"  

Why not expand it into a full blank page for focused writing when tapping on it, then shrink it back when done? 

 Currently, this app seems limited to story planning. Almost like the massively popular “Anvil World Building” online program. 

 Story Planner could be great for writing too, it just needs to expand into that blank writing canvas, but instead.. avoids it for whatever reason, almost as if scared. 

 Fix this for a 5-star review.

Good app for organizing thoughts, ideas, and for developing a strong foundation. I use it to plan as I write, and it helps me see where I need to put more attention. 

If we are inputting a start and finish time for every scene, it would be great to see an overall timeline that is generated by it.

A section under Setting for “the world” would be great, with input spaces for maps, seasons, and distinguishing features.

I’m a writer of a series and I love this app, it’s really allowed me to organize my thoughts so much better. The main problem I have is that you can’t copy over characters/locations to multiple projects at the same time. It would be such a timesaver for my series! Another thing would be to allow for selecting multiple characters/locations to copy over at once.

I’ve used this app to create characters for my various stories I’m working on I sort of fell out of vogue with it for a while but was prompted by my own drive to work on my stories again. I’m glad I have this app and works well with Scievener.

I love this app because it will synch between your phone and iPad. It is very easy to use and super easy to export into a pdf when you are ready to share. I love the scene card because you can make chapters and easily rearrange them. High recommend for people who want to have the most organization in their writing.

So I’ve only been using the app for about a week or so, but so far, I’m loving it. I had been considering Scrivener’s iPad app, among other options, but I love that Story Planner has native iCloud syncing built in. It’s also a very nice-looking app, with all of the features I’m looking for, in capturing the overall message or theme for a novel, as well, as being able to drag-and-drop scenes and is exactly what I wanted to capture all of the needs for planning a novel, and to build an outline. It’s also extremely affordable, with only a single price for the app, and no subscriptions or other nonsense to worry about. It also seems to be updated regularly. I love all of the little tooltip suggestions, which are great for not only helping to use the product, but also teach one to structure and plan a story.  I have noticed what _might_ be a bug on iPadOS 18, however, in that writing very long-form content (such as the Project’s Plot Summary, which can be many lines), the editor doesn’t automatically scroll down when using an external keyboard to navigate with up and down arrows beyond the current text being displayed. It could be that this is a problem with iOS 18 (however as I type it, this review is showing the same behaviour). Other than that, it’s been a pretty flawless experience and I can’t think of any other hurdles I’ve experienced or “nice to haves” that I would want to have in the product. I do sometimes use a Windows PC and MacOS, and it would be nice to have a way to use some of these same tools from Story Planner there as well, but the majority of my writing I do on an iPad.

Ich habe die APP auf dem Mac und dem IPhone, aber die Synchronisation funktioniert nicht, so sind die 10 Euro leider verschwendet.

**Developer response:** Hallo! Es tut uns leid, dass du Probleme mit der Synchronisation hast. Das sollte eigentlich reibungslos funktionieren.

Bitte versuche einmal, die App auf deinem iPhone komplett zu schließen (Force Close) und dann neu zu öffnen. Warte bitte ein paar Minuten bei geöffneter App, da die allererste Synchronisierung manchmal einen Moment dauern kann.

Je viens d'acheter l'app pour iiPad Pro avec la dernière version iOS et j'ai déjà des bugs d'écriture dans les fenêtres de rubriques personnages : pas de tabulation, impossible d'aller à la ligne, on écrit à l'aveugle. Il fait des copier/coller automatiques d'une fiche personnage à l'autre. Ergonomie problématique, arrêt de l'application après une commande de couper/coller … bref :
Une catastrophe. Des bugs d'écriture pour une application dédiée à l'écriture! Serieusement? 
Bougez-vous et vite sinon vous ne passerez pas l'année

I’ve bought this app across all three devices, my iPhone, MacBook, and iPad, but for whatever reason, the purchase on my MacBook has not allowed me to save any of my projects, deletes them and doesn’t allow me to change anything on the projects I do have.

Lately, this app has about a 50% chance to delete your entire project when trying to sync. I can’t go back into any of my previous projects because everything I’ve written might completely disappear. Just lost another project today when I tried to open it on my phone - it was there, then vanished, then like clockwork when I went to my iPad, it froze, then deleted the project there as well. I’d rather just use Google Drive, it’s free and I know my stuff will stick around. CANNOT recommend this app for anyone using it to seriously map out important projects.

The Mac app is probably a catalyst app, it doesn't support many of the standard keyboard shortcuts (esc for closing dialogs). It just feels very unpolished. Functionality is just a little too barebones to be really useful. iCloud synching doesn't work more than half of the time. I'll be doing my story planning in Slugline, there I can at least also write the rest of my script.

I bought this app years ago and stopped using it when the interface was changed. I recently opened the app to see if the layout has been improved. Nope. An Excel sheet provides a better format for outlining without the added expense of another app.

Product was great for our daughters to plan their creative writing.

Now with the annual subscription mode we’ll need to opt out.  

Despite what I’ve seen about purchases before subscription not being affected, that doesn’t seem to have flowed through to family sharing so one daughter has lost her work.

If you’re looking to use for your school age family, try something else.

I LOVE THIS APP! As an unapologetic pantser, this app helps me organize my deeply layered chaos. The honeymoon period is not over, but I have not walked away unhappy or frustrated. I feel empowered and in control, not overwhelmed and mentally exhausted. When it comes to those fancy apps, I use 10% of them, never making it worth the cost. Story Planner is fun, user-friendly, and helps me to be as thorough as I want to be without getting in the way of the creative process! (Author of FORGING A NIGHTMARE, BAN THIS!, and STAR WARS: Gone to the Winner’s Circle.)

I’ve been using this app to write my three stories and it is THE must have writing app on the platform. I’ve tried other writing apps and they are either limited or require payments. 

Only problem I’ve had is that I can no longer sync progress I’ve made using my phone to my Mac, even though it synced before.

For a while I’ve been using notes. No, not the app. Real notes. I still do, but mostly i just use this app. It’s so good to have everything organized and not be out of pages if you change something. It costs, but i think its totally worth it.

Story Planner has become one of my favorite writing tools, and a big part of that is its simple, fair approach: you pay once, and that’s it. No subscriptions lurking in the shadows. For the price, you get a surprisingly deep toolbox.

What makes the app stand out is the developer’s commitment. Updates keep coming, features keep improving, and it’s clear the app isn’t being abandoned. That level of support gives the whole thing a sense of long-term reliability.

As for writing features, it covers all the essentials for building a novel: characters, locations, plots, scenes, timelines, and more. But the real magic is how customizable it is. If something isn’t included by default, you can create your own categories and fields. You can even attach images and other reference material, which helps keep your worldbuilding and visual notes neatly in one place.

Honestly, the app has come a long way. It started solid and has grown into something flexible, intuitive, and surprisingly powerful for the price. For any writer who wants structure without being boxed in, it’s an excellent choice.
