## What is Storybook?

Storybook: Master Novelist is the writing studio for novelists who think in series. Plan the saga, build the world, and write every book, all in one warm, focused place.

One purchase. Every device. No subscription.

THE WRITING ROOM
• A distraction-free editor with a book-like feel: real serif prose on paper-toned pages, and a candlelit dark mode
• Write scene by scene, or stitch a whole chapter into one continuous page. Type a * * * to split a scene, delete one to merge
• Tap any highlighted name in your prose to open that character or place beside the page, and edit your world without leaving your words
• Continue Writing drops you back at your last sentence, with your three most recent writing spots one press away
• Set each chapter's point of view and setting, keep snapshots of every draft, and have your pages read aloud

BUILT FOR SERIES
• Shelve standalone books or whole sagas, and give any book a custom spine label: "Book 2.5", "Novella", "Prequel"
• Every character, place, culture, and item carries a role per book: Central, Featured, Background, or Mentioned
• The Tracker maps the saga: every book an entity appears in, with its role, on one screen
• Color-code sagas and books; the accent follows them through the library, the boards, and the timeline

THE CODEX
• Rich profiles for characters, places, cultures, groups, and items: portraits, galleries, relationships
• A color code that teaches itself: characters amber, places evergreen, cultures slate, items plum
• Explore your story world as an interactive family tree

NINE STORY STRUCTURES
• Three-Act, Save the Cat, The Hero's Journey, The Story Circle, Seven-Point, Freytag's Pyramid, Kishōtenketsu, or build your own, or write with none
• Switch templates freely: every structure keeps its notes, so no beat is ever lost

THE CORKBOARD & THE TIMELINE
• See every book as a pinned index card on one wall. Retitle, rewrite loglines, and reorder the shelf by drag
• Place books on an in-world timeline, and let story chronology number the shelf if you choose

THE WRITER'S ALMANAC
• A year-deep Ledger of Days, honest pace forecasts, and a cabinet of records and curiosities
• Encouragement, never shame, and revision days count too

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• No account, no tracking, no servers. The App Privacy label reads "Data Not Collected"
• Your manuscript lives on your device and syncs through your own private iCloud

ONE PURCHASE, EVERY DEVICE
• Buy once and own it on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with Family Sharing included
• No subscription. Your writing studio shouldn't charge rent.

Whether you're drafting book one or plotting book nine, Storybook keeps the whole saga in your hands.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money

*2026-08-08*

Within minutes of starting, application began to crash. When naming scenes, the cursor gets stuck and will not allow you to switch back to the composition pane. There is no option to change paragraph spacing. Scenes live in chapters and cannot be fine tuned for independent POVs, etc. It’s crazy that this is being sold as a $90 application. I did not get through one scene.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3 — 2026-08-08

Killed the bugs, updated the UI and made everything even better!

### 1.2.3 — 2026-07-26

Writing should never cost you a sentence. This release starts there.

FIXED
• The app could lock up with a spinning wheel mid-sentence, with no way out but a force quit. That is gone. Autocorrect was the trigger, and behind it the editor was rewriting your whole chapter while you typed.
• ⌘S now saves the sentence you just finished. It could previously report success while your last words were still only on screen, and it stayed quiet when a save genuinely failed.
• ⌘F opens Find. ⌥⌘F opens Find and Replace. They were the wrong way round.
• The sidebar hides on the first click, from the left where it belongs, instead of two clicks from a menu on the right.
• A new world appears on the World Building canvas right away. It used to sit on the unlinked shelf until you connected something else to it.

WORLD BUILDING, ONE SAGA AT A TIME
Keep two sagas on the shelf and every world, city and culture pooled into one tree. Now you pick a saga in the toolbar and World Building shows that saga alone.

Anything belonging to no saga in particular stays visible under Shared Across Sagas, so a pantheon or a magic system two trilogies lean on is never hidden, and deleting a saga never looks like it deleted your world.

Characters and world cards have a Saga row now, so you can file anything into a saga or out of one. Whatever you make inside World Building joins the saga you are standing in.

KEYBOARD
A full shortcut map, in the menus where you can find it. ⌘1 through ⌘9 for sections, ⇧⌘] and ⇧⌘[ to step between them, ⌘J to keep writing, ⌘O to import, ⌃⌘S for the sidebar, ⌥⌘I for the inspector, ⌃⌘R to start a sprint, ⇧⌘Return for focus mode. Bold, italic, underline and find live in the menu bar too, so they work wherever you are writing.

STORY STRUCTURES
Four-Act, Two Midpoints joins the shelf: twelve beats that cut the long middle in half at a real reversal. It replaces the previous fifteen beat commercial template, and any book already on that one moves across by itself with nothing for you to redo.

BUTTONS
Toolbar buttons say what they are instead of leaving you to read a symbol, and every one carries a tooltip.

### 1.2.2 — 2026-07-25

Bugs killed
Graphical error in the Cork Board view on iPhone is fixed.
Fixed a crash that could close the app while typing a word with an accent, like café or naïve. This was the important one.
Fixed iCloud sync getting stuck and showing an error code instead of an explanation.
Also: smoother typing in long manuscripts, no crashes when cancelling a new scene or deleting a book or timeline era, and boards that fit an iPhone screen properly.
Thank you to the writer who reported the typing crash.

### 1.2 — 2026-07-24

This update deepens your story world and hardens your library.

YOUR STORY WORLD, CONNECTED
• The World Web is now a clean, living map of everything you have made: characters, places, cultures, groups, and items on one connected canvas
• Tap Focus on any card to light up everything it touches, and switch focus with a single tap
• Every relationship now draws a real link, so nothing hides, and character and world cards share one unified list of connections

BRING YOUR WORK IN
• Open a manuscript straight from another app with Open With, or drag and drop
• RTF and Word imports keep their formatting; plain text opens in any common encoding

NEVER LOSE A WORD
• Automatic snapshots and rotating, durable backups run quietly in the background
• A full fidelity archive with replace and restore, and a recovery screen if a library ever will not open
• Live iCloud sync status, and a reversible Delete All

Plus dozens of smaller fixes and polish across the editor, the codex, and the boards.
