I went to play these bots only to find out that all except the easiest difficulty are locked behind a paywall. I really have to pay for a subscription just for training bots? Also since there were no real training bots to use to improve, I unfortunately had to play ranked to practice. There was not a single match that I played that felt fair. I’m also pretty sure 75% of my matches were just bots. ### 2/5 — Boom *2026-05-16, version 1.15.0* I’ll never know if this is worth it, it always, always crashes on my iPad. Other games don’t. As if they have not checked competitors pricing ! Kicked me out of the middle of games to ask me to login again. Didn’t update from one subscription level to another properly. But support is good. And they resolved the subscription issue without further problems, even gave a free month to offset the issue. But again, too buggy within games also. Will try it again at a later date to see if it has stabilized. Would really like to love this game. But it has been getting buggier than more stable lately. I am stuck in an endless loop of the same add. The add never finishes and there is no way to move forward. I have tried, closing the app, restarting and nothing works. It appears that in the most recent update, they have eliminated my ability to play against the computer unless I pay the Diamond level monthly fee. I went gold to get rid of ads. I’ll be getting rid of the game before I pay more to be able to do what it already did when I upgraded to gold. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Cheaters *2026-07-11* There is a dual algorithm that much of the players are using that are counting your pieces. I fluctuate from a level 25 to one time a level 30. Without using any help. I stopped playing because not only was the cheating losing my interest, but they were occasional times that I observed a few players moving their pieces. I brought this to the attention of the game makers and nothing happened. The game is evidently recorded. But I think on the backend they don’t really look. Not worth playing with the cheaters. ### 1/5 — Not worth the time *2026-05-17, version 1.15.0* They took a simple game and complicated to unusable. ### 1/5 — Bad Devs *2026-05-14, version 1.15.0* The latest update was BAD. I have used the various app versions and have learned to accept their limitations. This latest version of Stratego 5/26 is simply awful. Not sure why they took the last version and decided to make bot games terrible. It’s really a shame that this iconic version is now worthless. Keep looking for another military strategy game because this won’t be worth it. ### 1/5 — Wildly over-complicated. Bring back the classic version. *2026-04-23, version 1.14.3* The classic app was perfect. This is an ugly, over-complicated, over-designed, cash-grabbing mess. Packed with adds and nonsense, and the “stylish” graphics make it almost unplayable because of how small everything has to be. ### 1/5 — Bring back the Single Player Version! *2026-04-05, version 1.14.3* I paid for, and used to play, the Single Player Version, which was awesome. I temporarily deleted it once, and now I can’t add it back! Every time you restart the app it opens a new ad prior to starting a match and doesn’t let you exit regardless of time. I don’t get how anyone would be encouraged to purchase this or any of its in app purchases. Getting greedy…you already get paid by ads based on user activity and also get paid from the meta data sold how many ways do you want to make money off of a mediocre product? It’s not chess and it’s not checkers. ### 5/5 — This app is great *2025-06-25* I am fairly new to Stratego and discovered this app while searching for a way to play with a large pool of real people. The matchmaking system works well and at most I wait for 1.5 mins to be matched with an opponent. There is a training option with varying levels of difficulty and even a campaign if you upgrade to premium. As opposed to Strategus, one of its competitors, I find that it is easier to play and start a game fast with an opponent even from a cellphone. The controls are user friendly. It is also easier to access to the English world as opposed to Gravon, a German competitor.
