### 2/5 — Oh no!

*2022-02-01, version 5.1.2*

I have loved this app for years and when they started to charge me I thought, ok it’s worth it. But oh no! They have updated the app and changed it. The mindful body scan was a really relaxing sounding man and it’s now a woman. I know if you have just downloaded the app this will not matter to you but it’s just not the same anymore. Gutted because I will deffo cancel my subscription now.

### 2/5 — Used to be better

*2021-12-05, version 5.1.0*

Once upon a time I would have given this app 5 stars but now I can only give it two.

This was my favourite mindfulness app for many years until the major overhaul ruined the entire thing :(

I mostly just used the guided mindfulness meditations. They were simple, practical exercises, narrated in the most calming relaxed voice imaginable. They have been a huge part of my recovery from severe depression and anxiety over the past 5 years. Probably saved my life a couple of times.

Occasionally I used the thought reframing tools but not often… I find that stuff a bit too prescriptive.

Anyway, I’m bitterly disappointed that my favourite guided exercises are now buried below a lot of other fluff that’s been added to the app.

### 2/5 — You have to pay for almost everything

*2021-06-20, version 4.01*

The free things you can use are pretty basic readings and breathing exercises you can find online. Everything else you need to pay £1.99. Maybe the app itself is better than 2 stars, but I'll never know as I could barely use any of it. I'm not a fan of apps that are free to download and then charge you for almost everything once you're in the app.

### 2/5 — App stopped working

*2020-10-01, version 3.1.0*

I’ve used this app for a month and paid for the subscription. I’ve loved it but went to use it tonight it’s logged me out won’t let me back in and I literally can’t do anything to resolve it!!

### 5/5 — Converted

*2020-06-13, version 3.03*

A friend recommended this app. I was new to CBT and so Using breathing techniques while learning how to reframe negative thoughts was unfamiliar territory for me. However it has done a great job . I have found software foolproof, with easy-to-navigate instructions and a simple infrastructure 👍🏻👍🏻

### 5/5 — Me saying what I think

*2020-06-13, version 3.03*

Helped me with stress and anxiety a lot (from a young person)

### 5/5 — Very nice app

*2020-06-13, version 3.03*

Simple to use with good recordings and guides. Recommended

### 5/5 — Live saver

*2019-08-14, version 2.7*

All of the exercises on here are really useful in both extreme situations and in maintenance ones.

### 3/5 — Was great until....

*2019-02-23, version 2.3*

I used the app a lot but now that they monetized some features of the app. Now I have no more uses for it. Guess I'll succumb to my anxiety

### 5/5 — Great App

*2018-11-16, version 2.0*

Having struggled with anxiety for sometime I found this very useful app. The breathing exercises are so useful & have helped my condition considerably. Highly recommended to other anxiety suffers.

### 5/5 — Highest recommendation

*2018-11-02, version 2.0*

I cannot recommend this app more highly, it has absolutely given me the tools to deal with the issues I was facing.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Very disappointing

*2024-08-01, version 8.0.9*

I really liked this app and the very knowledgeable and professional content. I was even happy to accept the paid for subscription but I have been unable to access it despite having a subscription and they do not reply to emails.

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2024-07-17, version 8.0.9*

Won’t even let me sign in

### 1/5 — Can’t get started

*2020-12-05, version 3.1.0*

Literally just downloaded this and the privacy policy is overlaid on the create password field, rubbish. Have turned my phone off and on and still not working

### 1/5 — Broken

*2020-10-13*

Can’t even get passed trying to sign up. The text field ui says “email” and when I fill it in it and submit a modal pops up wanting a password as well. Except there is no form field listed for the password. Rage quit after 5 minutes of this garbage. I hope they fix this horrible ux/ui issue. It is completely un-usable as is right now. Why do you need a sign up/in wall anyway right away??
Very frustrated

**Developer response:** Hi! This sounds very odd and we can’t reproduce the problem. If you contact dan@companionapproach.com, we can get some more details and try and resolve the issue on your device.

### 1/5 — Limited unless you pay

*2020-10-08, version 3.1.0*

Clicked on NHS link to this app and downloaded out of interest. Disappointed to find very few of tools available unless you pay. Have deleted app but can’t find a way to delete registration and email!

### 1/5 — This is a great App

*2020-07-18, version 3.1.0*

Hello,

I have paid for my app and have used this for some years now but out of the blue you have changed to a subscription please can you provide me with access to basically what I have paid for.

### 1/5 — Don’t work

*2019-03-16, version 2.5*

None of the free try out relaxation methods work. Starts and stops after 2 seconds

### 1/5 — Bait and switch

*2019-02-22*

This app was great, until they just updated it to limit features behind a paywall. I understand you need to make money, but limiting reframing entries unless you pay a subscription is ridiculous, given the stated purpose of the app.

**Developer response:** Hi Individual865, please message dan@companionapproach.com and we can give you access to our full app.

### 1/5 — Recent update added paywall, activating my subscription didn’t unlock app features

*2018-10-22*

Used to be free, great app. I was willing to pay, so I tried activating a monthly and yearly subscription... neither of those “took” and unlocked features in the app even though they were happy to charge my card!

**Developer response:** We are very sorry to hear this. It sounds like a bug and clearly we do not want to take anyone's money if they are not happy with the app especially as we re-invest all revenue back into making the app even better.

Please contact dan@companionapproach.com so we can resolve the issue speedily.

Best,
The Companion Team

### 1/5 — Nothing particularly useful

*2015-05-03, version 1.2.1*

I think perhaps you'd need to be undergoing actual CBT for this to really be of use. You don't need an app to ask yourself 'how can I reframe this thought' which seems to be the main feature. Cards are a nice touch to an otherwise disappointing app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great overall app

*2024-01-29, version 8.0.9*

This app has so many great resources covering sleep, anxiety, long covid and procrastination. Within each topic there’s reading guides and listening guides. They also do online workshops / webinars which are really good. Would highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Stops panic/anxiety rapidly

*2022-02-19, version 5.1.3*

This app is like having a pocket therapist. The search feature is excellent and the bite sized chapters of the audio guides makes listening super convenient.

Very impressed that the app content is consistently growing and evolving and that featured guides often correspond to dates in the mental health calendar.
It works as a regular stress nullifier and as an interesting and ever expanding resource into one’s own psyche.

### 5/5 — Helps me manage my mental health

*2021-12-20, version 5.1.1*

Excellent audio guides for managing my anxiety at work.

### 5/5 — Best companion

*2021-10-10, version 5.0.0*

I have used this app regularly over the last 2 years to manage anxiety. The breathing exercises have made a massive difference to me and also lots of good content on understanding stress and learning how to manage it.

### 5/5 — This app has really helped me

*2021-05-05, version 4.01*

I found the Companion app via the NHS website and it has really helped me to manage some severe anxiety that was triggered in the past week. The box breathing exercise grounds me so that I can avoid feeling panicky and the CBT exercises help to rationalise my thoughts. Absolutely invaluable. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Excellent

### 5/5 — Perfect for what I needed

*2020-07-03, version 3.0.6*

This app is great. The breathing exercises are simple to follow and really helpful. I love the mindfulness body scan and have been using it a lot to regain focus during stressful days. All of the background information in the guides is well written and really helped me understand CBT.
I would recommend this app to anyone who has a stressful lifestyle and needs to find a better balance.

### 5/5 — Easy to use

Very easy to use, simple set-up. Finding it really helpful so far 👍🏽
