After exploring it in depth by stripping down to the basics, I am now finding there are quite musical alternate tuning capabilities. The ability to modulate every parameter via the controller page opens up endless possibilities. Been able to conjure up sounds and alternate turnings reminiscent of W. I have had to load the app THREE times and reset my iPad 2 FOUR times and it's only the first day!!!!! Get it sorted and it's a guaranteed FIVE STARS! ### 2/5 — Meh. *2013-06-29* Packed with many detailed fine tunings to produce... special effects that are all extremely limited for use in composition. It's beer. Good beer. Sometimes wonderfully delicious beer, with multiple favors. You can drink a lot and get happy, then drunk, then sick, and not want anymore. Do not expect any other beverage. Do not expect a meal. Stria is a one trick pony that the pony does extremely well. But it's really all just the same variation on the same trick, wall of sound effects. Oh, and it's buggy. Some features not working on ipad 3. Restarted, no other apps running, reinstalled. Nope, snapshot pad not working. I did import some wacky sounds into Samplr. There I could add layers, counterpoint, structure, and build a meal. This worked for me nicely. ### 3/5 — Nice but... *2013-07-13* Nice app with interesting sound potential, but Audio Paste does not work, so you are limited to the sounds that come with the app. If this feature is fixed it will be a 5 star app. Also, support is negligible. ### 3/5 — ;( *2013-05-21* It sounds awesome, but it crashed my iPhone 4. There should be a big warning...If they make it less CPU hungry I will be super happy. Right now I'm scared to open it. I dont get why someone wouldn't think this is musical, guess they just want another virtual analogue. ### 4/5 — Stunning *2016-12-14* The only gripe I have with this app is that there is no way (not that I know of) to load your own samples as a sound source. Every other app from Ape Soft has this ability. Other than that this is another stunning, amazing and inspirational music application from Ape Soft. I've gotten some truly odd and amazing soundscapes and sounds out of this app. It's a bit confusing in some ways but if you toy around with it and keep your mind open you'll be pleasantly surprised time and time again. ### 4/5 — pad2でスケールが使える *2015-12-22* 2.0になって演奏も？可能になっているので、結構多用しています。apesoftのアプリには音、音響、音楽の関係を考え直すきっかけをいつも与えてもらっているので、感謝！　安易に出来合いのスタイルをなぞったり、すでに他の人がやったことと同じような事をやって悦になっているおバカな自分に戒めを与えてくれます。 ### 4/5 — Equal parts fascination and frustration *2015-05-19* On the plus side, this app can produce fabulous, eerie, otherworldly noises. There's tons of variations, and much to play with. BUT, these guys shoot themselves in the foot with shoddy coding. For example, Stria only works under AudioBus with a filter if you first set the output to iPad speaker! Worse, the File Manager open-in function is confusing, as it doesn't allow importing of samples, and only allows output of in-app products. Nic ### 5/5 — Perfect *2026-07-26* Wonderful. It takes some time to learn but there is a fine tutorial from Gavinski. And it is ridiculously inexpensive for what you get. ## Most praised reviews (7 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Unmatched granular performer even in 2025 *2025-06-26* My biggest regret in iOS music production, has been sleeping on Apesoft, Amazing Noises incredible offerings. They have always been next level. I personally believe that spectral/spatial audio is the future of entertainment, like when stereo was first introduced. Had I understood sooner, I could have been mastered these apps, here I am discovering decade old software that still outperforms the most expensive granular scrubbers. It's very cool that the designer gives such credit to John Chowning and Max Matthews (look them up if you are not familiar.) Hours and hours of very original sounds come out of this. Ps. I'm not affiliated with apeSoft in any way. Even if they wanted to pay me to write these reviews i would turn down the offer. ( not vst versions!) Edit: made a comparison to iPulsaret but i was thinking iDensity not Stria. 2 years later i am still impressed. ### 5/5 — Amazing! *2018-06-30* Apesoft is up there with Amazing noises and Kymetica to put out the best experimental and great sounding apps! Amazing way to play with process sound. Fans of apps like SoundScaper will love all of apesoft's apps in this series. It was also a bonus to look into where the word Stria came from in relation to electronic music.
