### 3/5 — Fun app but hard to unsubscribe and no support

*2025-09-15, version 3.7*

I was just charged for an annual subscription but my Apple app shows I’m unsubscribed. Help please!

### 4/5 — More Competitions Please

*2025-04-27, version 3.7*

Fun app, helps me hit the trails. The competitions and peer interplay are too sparse, though. You’d attract more users with more competitions. So far, there was only one this year!

### 3/5 — Many recent improvements but too many faults.

*2024-04-02, version 3.5.4*

Updated Mar 2024. Let year’s major update with the new interface and removal of ads was very welcome. The app is much, much better designed now, and quicker.

However, I record all my activities as Apple workouts and they are supposed to import automatically. Around 1 in 3 do not do so, and there is no way to pull them manually as a backup. This is a bit of a showstopper for me, and the reason I’m not prepared to subscribe.

The scoring system needs a tweak. It’s fine that each hex counts how many visits by each player over the last 60 days only, but it shouldn’t actually recalculate unless someone visits the hex. You shouldn’t be able to gain a hex while you sleep - that’s clearly nonsense.

Previous review:
The app works well now, integrates with apple health and the Apple Watch well, so it just automatically imports any activity you record using your standard app (eg apple or Strava etc), and it is fun to try to hold onto your territory and steal your neighbour’s. I definitely choose my walks based on where I need to grab some hexes. My only remaining gripe is that the scoring is a little bizarre. Hexes change hands without anyone logging an activity. Worse, sometimes you grab a hex on a walk, and the activity shows you took it, but when the map updates it’s not showing as yours. Can’t finding the actual scoring rules anywhere. So the app is a little bit of fun, an extra dimension to your walks and runs, but not something I would pay for I’m afraid, at least not what they’re asking.

### 2/5 — A few bugs still

*2024-02-14, version 3.4*

A great idea but quite frustrating.
I understand the ads, they need to make money, but it’s very frustrating when it’s linked to Stava but won’t update the activity, or says it is the same as another recording so again dosn’t log anything.

Also, all the options in the menu work, except the feedback one! Hopefully they’ll read this and get it fixed. I certainly won’t be paying for it until it works properly.

### 4/5 — Great

*2024-01-03, version 3.0*

Really enjoy it. Bit pricey for the subscription, but works great on the free version!
Would love a version for biking though !

### 3/5 — Good App ruined

*2023-03-06, version 2.8*

Mandatory adverts after each run/walk has ruined this.

### 2/5 — Long Distance Runners get all the advantage.

*2022-12-26, version 2.7*

It’s a fun idea but severely lacking in the gameplay aspects. I am car free and walk around my neighborhood (6+ blocks in all directions) multiple times a day, but never can get ownership because of how they calculate area. Basically, long distance runners do a 20 mile loop three tomes a week and get credit for EVERY space inside that loop. They have never been on my street, much less so often they should get game credit for most visits. I suggested a few ways to weigh the credits to makenit more engaging for non-marathoners but I never got so much as an acknowledgment from the developers. Deleted.

### 4/5 — Great app but has room for improvement

*2022-11-27, version 2.7*

This is a great app that keeps you motivated to run by turning it into a game. I especially love how it almost forces you to explore new places. However, there is room for improvement. One feature I would love to have is auto pause or at least a start count down. Another feature that I think would improve the dynamic of the game is to add “hex decay”where a captured hex will decay over time if not visited. I think this feature will make the game a little more competitive as runners will have to revisit their captured hexes from time to time in order to keep them.

### 4/5 — Players cheating

*2022-11-22, version 2.7*

First of all, I would like to tell you that your app is awesome. It’s a great motivation to run and walk, especially in places I rarely go. I’m a paying player and I believe that the price is good for what I get in return.

But, you can’t let players cheat. There’s one player, ranked number two in the world on the app right now, who just broke the world record for 165km. Come on! It’s clear that this run is not a run. We would have heard something if someone would have broke a world record. Those cheaters are not good for your app. Take care of the cheaters please.

### 4/5 — Great app except…

*2022-11-11, version 2.7*

I love using this app it has been the best thing to keep me motivated, however recently, just a day ago it wouldn’t let me back into the app. Instead it would force me to pick a username again, once I picked any and all usernames I could think of it kept giving me the unavailable message. Is this a bug or is the app officially disabled?

### 3/5 — Good App

*2022-11-09, version 2.7*

I enjoy using this app however don’t enjoy that I get the subscription modal popping up twice when I launch the app and tap close

### 2/5 — Love it when it works

*2022-11-05, version 2.7*

Stride is great and creates great competition between my friends in my running group.... but it can be Glitchy.

Given that your competing for neighbourhoods it's very frustrating when all your hard earned work disappears....... at the moment we have a problem with the London Neighbourhoods.... the local council areas have almost all disappeared to be replaced by a neighbhood called Lunden which is nearly ad big as London

I've reached out to the developers a couple of times but it's still not fixed.... as a result my subscription is currently cancelled although it's not due to renew for a while so will reconsider if fixes are applied as would love to support and have the additional features which are brilliant.

### 3/5 — Some people take the fun out of it

*2022-10-19, version 2.7*

When I first downloaded the app it was a fun app to compete with local people but now it’s just over run by 1 person who takes all the fun out it.

### 4/5 — Great App with Some Flaws.

*2022-05-30, version 2.2*

Love this idea it’s a lot of fun I walk and run a lot so this is a great way to add a different angle to it. My only complaint is if you record 2 or more exercises outside the app close together it doesn’t register all of them. For example if I went for a run had a small 5-10 minute rest and then walk back it only registers the walk exercise and not the run. This has happened quite a few times.

### 1/5 — Privacy concerns

*2022-05-26, version 2.1*

After deciding I no longer want to use the Stride app, I learned there is apparently no straightforward way to delete my profile and associated data. This means my past location data could remain visible to other users indefinitely. The app privacy policy states that you should email the developer to request data erasure, but I’ve done so four times without being acknowledged.

### 2/5 — Great idea …does not quite work

*2022-05-20, version 2.1*

Loved this inspirational to go claim your neighbourhood. But the distance does not calculate correctly so it then deletes your achievements and you waste your activity as it gets auto marked as “cheating” with no review. No customer support let’s down what could me a phenomenal app.

### 3/5 — Watch out for Apple Watch

*2022-04-12, version 2.1*

Love the app - pushes me to run and walk more but have consistent issues with the Apple Watch capabilities… mis-tracks and voids activity claiming I cheated with no way to dispute and doesn’t always sync activity tracked on watch to your profile (spinning wheel and never lets you ‘end workout’)

Many missed hexes… I want my hexes!! Ha

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Fun app but hard to unsubscribe and no support

*2026-01-23, version 3.7*

I was charged for an annual subscription but my Apple app shows I’m unsubscribed. Help please!

No support from developer and link to app support is an error page. Please assist , I’m frustrated!

### 1/5 — SWITCH TO AIRPLANE MODE BEFORE YOU FINISH AN ACTIVITY AND IT WONT SHOW YOU ADVERTS.

*2025-03-20, version 3.7*

Paid for the full version and none of the features work. No Strava import, no garmin import. No Apple health import, emailed support and had no reply. Contacted on insta, no reply, contacted on Reddit, no reply, the link for support on their app in the AppStore is a dead link, it’s an absolute joke.

DO NOT PAY FOR THE FULL VERSION!

SWITCH TO AIRPLANE MODE BEFORE YOU FINISH AN ACTIVITY AND IT WONT SHOW YOU ADVERTS.

### 1/5 — Utterly pointless

*2024-11-22, version 3.7*

They do NOTHING about people quite clearly cheating. Its a waste of time even downloading this

### 1/5 — Everything has to be subscription these days..

*2024-10-11, version 3.7*

Scam

### 1/5 — Ruined

*2023-06-19, version 2.8*

I used to use this app all the time, however they now have introduced a new feature where you can’t complete your activity without ether watching an ad or paying for the full version. This puts me off wanting to use this app if I have to watch an ad every time or pay money, I hope this feature is removed in the future.

### 1/5 — App got WORSE here’s why…

*2022-12-10, version 2.7*

This is my second year using Stride. When it first came out I was a fan of the concept. Today, I’m not a fan anymore. I just ran an 9 min mile in a new location I haven’t been to and once I was done, I went to a park, not too far away and did a 4 mile hike, not even touching or anywhere near my precious territory. After about 75 minutes later, completing my hike and submitting my activity, the app gives me a message, telling me that it’s not accepting my activity because it’s a “duplicate activity”—please! How can this be anywhere remotely duplicate to the short run I did earlier? So I did all that hike for NOTHING. If this sort of thing doesn’t get resolved, I will certainly not be using this app again. NOT A FAN! 👎

### 1/5 — Used to be good

*2022-11-29, version 2.7*

I used to like it but support seems to have disappeared and runs don’t sync sometimes. I haven’t renewed my subscription as I suspect the app has been abandoned.

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2022-08-12, version 2.5*

Walks and runs don’t always upload properly. Some are simply missing.

No way of trimming activities, so if you link to Garmin Connect or Strava and forget to stop your watch, this app thinks you are cheating and doesn’t count the activity.

Password reset link does not work.

No response from contact with customer service.

Free version is almost the same as paid for version.

### 1/5 — No longer works

*2022-07-04, version 2.4*

Game no longer loads at all, subscription cancelled

### 1/5 — Great idea, absolutely horrible app

*2022-06-19, version 2.2*

Love the concept but after 6 months I am giving up. Constantly crashes or doesn’t work correctly. Did the free trial because I thought it would be worth a subsection but there is no way I’d pay for this, I’m not even going to use the free version anymore.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app to track your walk/run

*2025-12-29, version 3.7*

I use this app every day on my walk and explore different areas of town .

### 5/5 — Makes running fresh again

*2023-05-15*

This app has totally changed my behavior with running. Before the app I would do the same runs all the time and get bored with the monotony. But now, Stride has led me to explore totally new routes to both fill in my personal exploration map and also to snag hexes in competition with other runners. The Stride map becomes a fun tool to strategize new places to run to take over the leaderboard in your town or fill in the gaps in your hexes. Wish list: satellite view for the map and a few other map tweaks, but overall it has all the pieces in place to make running around you feel fresh.

### 5/5 — Super fun!

*2022-03-19, version 2.0*

Hopefully the development team will do some advertising so we have some more competition!

### 5/5 — Motivates me to find new routes!

*2022-03-15, version 2.0*

A brilliant app, nice throw back to the original run an empire! Like the title says, gets me out exploring new terrain and does so without having to carry my phone with the garmin integration. Well worth downloading if you want a bit of friendly competition in your local area!

### 5/5 — I seem to be addicted

*2021-12-02, version 1.21.16*

Discovered this app a few days ago and have already wasted far too much time looking at the map and my usual runs and thinking about how to tweak the routes to acquire more hexes. Is the app perfect? Not yet but I am optimistic that it will continue to improve. Is it worth the subscription? Maybe not, but honestly the cost is equivalent to a few cups of coffee over the course of a year. Am I addicted? Absolutely!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2021-12-02, version 1.21.16*

Really enjoying this app, makes my usual routes a lot more fun. A question though - I’ve only been using the trial version so far, is the subscription a monthly payment or one off?

### 5/5 — Review on Strive

*2021-11-30, version 1.21.16*

Makes walking fun

### 5/5 — Fun app

*2021-10-25, version 1.21.16*

Fun app that is great motivation and easy to use, needs more competitors :)

### 5/5 — Subscription

*2021-08-12, version 1.18.5*

It’s a fun game, but I don’t think I should have to pay if I’m the only person in my area

### 5/5 — The Best Motivational App

*2021-08-08, version 1.18.5*

As a competitive person, this app has gotten me off the couch constantly to defend and grow my territory. It’s just so satisfying to watch YOUR “empire” grow as others‘s shrink. Plus, it’s led me to explore parts of town I’ve never been to. No muss, no fuss, just walking around town and conquering hexes. I love this app.
