## What is StrideWise?

Reach your daily step goal and bring your friends along.

StrideWise was born out of a family challenge to hit 10,000 steps a day. It reads your steps straight from Apple Health and turns them into something you actually want to look at.

WALK TOGETHER
Add friends with a code or a link and watch your steps line up next to theirs on a shared leaderboard. Compare today, yesterday, this week, this month, or the whole year, ranked by steps, goal reached, or current streak. A podium crowns the top three, because a plain list never made anyone walk further.

TAKE ON A CHALLENGE
Pick a friend, pick a length and see who moves. Most steps wins, or best goal percentage so nobody is punished for having longer legs, or one shared target the whole group walks towards together. Anything from a single day up to a month. Finished challenges stay in your archive, so you can still settle who won last summer.

SEE YOUR PROGRESS
A daily ring that fills as you walk. Your last seven days at a glance. Streaks, a goal calendar, monthly and yearly charts, and a year end forecast that tells you where you will land if you carry on like this.

BUILT FOR REAL LIFE
Works with your iPhone alone or with an Apple Watch. Nothing to set up beyond your daily goal. Available in English, Deutsch, and Português (Brasil).

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
No ads, no analytics, no tracking. Your steps stay on your device unless you choose to set up a Friends profile and even then only the people you accept can see them.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.3.0 — 2026-08-21

Hello Steppinators!

New:
- Challenges. Pick a friend, pick a length and see who moves. Most steps, best goal percentage, or a shared target the whole group walks towards together. Anything from a single day up to a month. Finished ones stay in your archive so you can look up who won last summer.

- Private nicknames and notes. Rename a friend to whatever you actually call them, and jot down who they are. Handy when you connect with someone on holiday and find yourself staring at the name a year later. Only you can see it. It follows you to your other devices.

- A friendlier invite. Tap a friend's invite link and you get their name and avatar with a single Connect button, instead of a code to squint at.

- Settings moved. They now live behind the gear on Home and the person icon on Friends. That freed up a tab, which Challenges promptly took.

- Invite from the ranking. There is an invite button under the leaderboard now. With exactly one friend it also mentions that one more unlocks the podium.

- Take back a request. A friend request you sent can now be withdrawn.

Fixed:
- Friends getting stuck out of sync. Two people could end up with one seeing a friendship while the other saw a request nobody could answer. The rules that decide who is connected now always reach the same answer on both phones. A test fails the build if that ever stops being true.

- Removing a friend now clears both sides. Before this, the other person could be left with a pending row forever. Removing is also undoable for 15 minutes, in case of a misplaced thumb.

- Notifications on all your devices. With an iPhone and an iPad, only one of them was getting friend requests and invites. Both do now.

Happy Walking!

### 2.2.1 — 2026-08-10

Hello Steppinistas!

The Friends feature had been telling your friends how many steps you had taken at 7am and then going back to sleep for the rest of the day. This release wakes it up, and fixes the reason it was asleep.

New:
- A badge for friend requests. The Friends tab and the app icon now show how many people are waiting for an answer. It clears the second you accept or decline.
- Old numbers admit they are old. If a friend's phone has been quiet for more than 12 hours, their row tells you when they last synced, instead of passing off a breakfast step count as tonight's.
- Welcome back. Reinstall the app and StrideWise recognizes your profile before it asks for a name, then offers to keep the name and avatar you already had. Previously it handed you an empty field and a random avatar color, and then wrote both over your old profile.

Fixed
- Your steps reach your friends all day. The part of the app that wakes up when you walk was missing a permission and had been failing every single time, silently, for as long as the feature has existed. The daily 7am sync was doing all the work on its own. Your count now updates through the day, with the app closed, and your friends stop seeing your 7am total at dinner time.
- Changing your goal changes your leaderboard. Your goal was recorded when you first created your profile and never looked at again. Friends were comparing you against a target you may have abandoned months ago.
- Friends update when you open the app. Standings used to refresh only when you opened the Friends tab itself.
- The goal hit rate survives the 1st of the month. It counted calendar months, so on the first of the month one good day read as 100 percent and one bad day as 0 percent. It now covers the last 30 days and says so on the card.
- The Health setup screen gets to the point. iOS 27 asks how far back you want to share your data, and StrideWise needs all of it. The screen now walks you to "Full History" rather than leaving you to work it out after two paragraphs about magic calculations.
- Tidier More tab. "Getting Started", "Contact Us" and "Common Questions" were the only entries in Title Case. The section headings were also inconsistent between languages, so German said "StrideWise" while English shouted "STRIDEWISE".
- Room to breathe in onboarding. Skip and Customize sat almost touching the button above them, close enough to look like part of it.

### 2.2.0 — 2026-08-04

Hello Stepinators!

New:
- Friends. Add someone with a code or a link and your steps line up next to theirs on a shared leaderboard. Suddenly the evening walk has a point.
- Pick your period: today, yesterday, this week, this month, or the whole year. Rank by steps, goal, or streak, depending on which one flatters you most.
- A podium for the top three, because a plain list never made anyone walk further.
- Your own profile, with a name, a colour, and an emoji that says more about you than you intended.
- A friend code you can share as a link. Tapping it opens StrideWise, or the App Store if they have not seen the light yet.
- The FAQ has a whole Friends section now, including why a friend sometimes shows a dash instead of a number.
- "Suggest a feature" in the More tab, for the ideas you have been muttering at your phone.

Fixed:
- Percentages no longer round up. 9,966 steps against a 10,000 goal is 99 %, not the 100 % it used to claim. You were robbed of the truth, and possibly of 34 steps.
- Relative dates now speak your language instead of quietly reverting to English.
- The App Store is two words. It has always been two words. (inside joke)

### 2.1.2 — 2026-06-26

Hello Stepinators!

Two things you never knew you needed: a podium for your best years, and an app that refuses to show you blank graphs even when HealthKit is having a moment. One of those is more glamorous than the other. Both made the cut.

New:
- OK, to call this "new" is a bit of an exaggeration... it's rather an addition than a new feature. A new FAQ answers the question iOS 27 will ask you (after it came out for everyone) during Health setup in StrideWise.

Fixed:
- Your steps are back. Again. A rogue data loading bug meant your weekly chart, streak dots, and goal calendar were mostly staring into the void. We thought we fixed it. We fixed it more now. :-D The app now cross-checks two independent data sources on every load, and if they disagree, it keeps your last good numbers instead of replacing them with nothing. Quiet, invisible, and the correct amount of paranoid.
- The yearly ranking list now handles large font sizes without quietly giving up. Previously, "projected" would truncate to "proj…" and the step average would get crowded out. Now the layout gracefully wraps: average drops to its own line when things get tight, and the step total does the same. No more ellipsis shame.
- Tapping "Buy me a coffee" used to skip straight to the thank-you screen without ever asking you for money. Generous of us, but not ideal. A stuck transaction from a previous session was being handed back as an instant success. It is cleared now, and your wallet is once again at risk. :-P

### 2.1.1 — 2026-06-24

Hello Stepionaires!

This one is less "new shiny thing" and more "everything that was quietly annoying you, fixed."

New:
- The app now speaks your language. Literally. Switch between English, Deutsch, and Português (Brasil) live, inside the app, without touching the system settings.
- Appearance, your way. Light, Dark, or the eternal "Auto" for the chronically undecided. Both new options live in the Settings section on the More tab.
- The Hall of Fame got a glow-up. Your yearly ranking now has a proper podium: gold for first, silver for second, bronze for third. Because numbers on a list were never going to capture the drama of your best year. Sort by rank or by year, and the current year shows up as "projected" so you know what you are working towards.

Fixed:
- Your steps are back. A rogue data loading bug meant your weekly chart, streak dots, and peak walking hours were mostly staring into the void. That was not a zen feature. It is fixed.
- Streak grammar lesson. When you had exactly a 1 day streak, the app called it "1 days." Embarrassing. It says "1 day" now. Your streak deserves respect.
- Health access revoked, explained. If you accidentally told your phone StrideWise cannot see your steps, you now get a helpful screen explaining what happened and where to go fix it. Previously the app just silently showed zeros and hoped you would figure it out.
- Pull down to refresh. You could always do this. Now the FAQ knows about it too.

Happy Walking!
