### 3/5 — Service works, mobile app is incredibly buggy and bad.

*2023-01-31, version 3.1.6*

Started off promising, then they got bought by Number Barn and seem to be the forgotten service. App has been incredibly buggy with every update, often push notification badges don’t clear, text threads are slow to update and sometimes show off screen, and a number of other weird usability flaws requiring you to end the app and reopen to hope it fixes.

Use the website primarily and this app as a backup and you’ll be okay.

It could be MUCH better if it was just stable.
iPhones used on: X, 12 Pro Max, 14 Pro Max

### 4/5 — Calling Is A Bit Buggy

*2021-02-03, version 2.1.28*

I loved string and use it daily for real estate prospecting. The texting is flawless on both mobile and desktop. The one issue I’m having is with the phone portion of the app. Sometimes I miss calls because there are no badge notifications or Lock Screen, and it leads to missed calls. Also, sometimes missed calls do not show up on the main log panel. This would be great to fix.

### 4/5 — App is buggy

*2020-12-30, version 2.1.28*

Service works great and the web version so far is flawless. The app is very buggy though. I’m on an iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 14.3. If someone calls, my phone rings and it shows it’s coming from String, that’s great. But if I don’t answer that call, there is no Lock Screen notification and no badge icon to show that I’ve missed a call. In fact no clue unless I look at recent calls or open the app. Notifications for text messages work just fine. This has caused me to miss many calls from clients. Also voicemails will not play in app but do on web version. Love the product and idea but these bugs need to be worked out ASAP.

### 5/5 — A life saver

*2019-09-18, version 2.1.4*

To my recollection this is my first time ever writing an App Store review, and I believe it’s worth it.

I’m not sure how I came across String. As a small business owner I was never truly happy with our phones. Missed calls were a huge problem for us. We started by using Dialpad, a great office phone system but entirely too complex for our needs. We tried using call rules to route calls to different people at different times to avoid missed calls - but we were still failing. I then tried Google Voice, way too simple and lacked any kind of features.

At some point after using Google Voice for a few weeks I came across String. I was intrigued, with a client base that is largely Millennials and Gen Z the text prompts upon missing a call spoke to me. What if I could automate some of our most commonly asked questions and get information in our prospective clients hands immediately even when we were out of the office? To top that off, what if our phone system acted like a mini CRM to keep us even more organized?

String promised all of that. So I had to try it. I signed up and within 3 days I knew this was our solution.

Not only does String work beautifully for our needs, but their team is INSANELY helpful. I had a few requests that weren’t part of their system (a professionally recorded voicemail greeting we had done by a voiceover artist) and porting in our office line of 15+ years. The String team made both of those requests happen with a smile. And they also checked in after.

I can’t recommend this enough. If you’re a small business or soloprenuer do yourself a favor and give it a try.

### 5/5 — Superpower

*2019-08-09, version 2.1.2*

I found this just in time for a big promotion and almost don’t want to review it for fear of others finding out about my competitive advantage!! 🙂

### 5/5 — Works well for me

*2019-08-09, version 2.1.2*

I use the away mode a lot when I’m not in the office and I like being able to unsend messages.

### 5/5 — This app saved my sanity

*2019-08-09, version 2.1*

I manage a small consulting business and my personal life through text messaging and it was a nightmare tracking everything. I kept a spreadsheet of notes to help me but it was tedious and painful keeping it up to date. String eliminated that. Simple things like marking a text as unread made such a huge difference and big things like templated bulk messaging, task management and auto replies took saved so much time! Thank you so much!!

### 5/5 — Love it

*2019-07-16, version 2.0.7*

This app is slick, simple, and makes texting clients way easier. Very pleased.

### 5/5 — Phone number that makes you more productive

*2019-07-15, version 2.0.7*

Gives you a second line for a reasonable rate with lots of cool features.

Never thought I'd be someone who would or could regularly get to inbox zero on texts & calls until I started using String.

### 5/5 — Superpowers for your phone

*2019-06-22, version 2.0.2*

I don’t know why anyone still uses their personal phone number for work. This is a really important app

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Do not even try it

*2025-04-08, version 3.1.21*

I wish I did my research before switching my business line to string. The calls would drop within 3-10seconds and then I would not be able to call back. Then my line cut out completely and sent people straight to voicemail.

I lost so much business. Their customer support is non-existent. You cannot get anyone on the phone and have to wait days for email replies that are generic.

I finally got my line changed to Ring Central and they are amazing! Highly recommend.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time or money

*2024-10-02, version 3.1.19*

I’ve used String now for 4 years, Nov 2020 to be exact, and when I tell you this app does not get better - even that’s a case understatement.

I was worried, but later had high hopes when they were bought out by Number Barn, yet they seem to have forgotten about the app too. I’ve also been in contact with their support team to try and resolve issues. They’re fixed for a few weeks, but then the issues come right back.

• Most times the website loads to a white screen, I’m lucky to even get in
• App loads message threads out or order
• tapping into a thread does not load any part of the conversation
• sending a message in the thread works, but you wouldn’t know because, well, the thread doesn’t load
• Tapping a thread with a contact you thought you were going to loads an entirely different number/contact at the top, still with no content

At this point, I’m only using it for notifications that messages came in so I can then go spam reload / clear cache on my computer until the page loads so I can respond to clients.

### 1/5 — New user experience

*2022-08-03, version 3.0.7*

It’s doesn’t have where to sign up on the app

### 1/5 — Lost my number, no one to talk to

*2021-12-01, version 3.0.7*

Had to uninstall and reinstall the app, now I can’t access my account, and there is no one to message or call.

Worst idea ever.

### 1/5 — It a Lie

*2021-07-15, version 2.1.28*

I don’t think this real, my iTunes account got debited and didn’t even load me to a page to sign in or ask me to chose a number, It keeps return to the start and asking me to select important reasons on using which I did multiple time… To me it not real

### 1/5 — Want a refund

*2021-03-01, version 2.1.28*

I literally just downloaded and paid for the subscription and realized this is totally not what I thought I was buying. I immediately cancelled, but doesn’t look like they are giving me a refund. No support and no one to contact.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2020-08-12, version 2.1.25*

I download this app I was unable to signup because they refused to send me invites code to complete my sign up very bad since they don’t want people to use the app too many hype for nothing

### 1/5 — Has a lot of room for improvement.

*2020-02-21, version 2.1.16*

I feel like I’ve overpaid for this service. It’s very glitchy at times. It promised to connect with CRM software like HubSpot but I’ve yet to find that. There’s no iPad App. I try to go to the web app but it directs me back to the mobile app which isn’t fitted for an iPad. There are a few cool things like setting up lists and tags but there’s quite a bit of room for improvement.

### 1/5 — Still new

*2019-12-21, version 2.1.12*

I gave a wrong email address and now, in the verification page there is no Botton to go back or change the email address ! The app is literally stuck !

### 1/5 — Pretty unimpressed so far

*2019-10-04, version 2.1.5*

I think all the 5 start reviews are paid. First impression: tried to sign up. None of the native email/pw integrations are there so you have to copy and paste manually from a password vault. Just clearly no attention to detail despite the hype and promises of the instagram ads. Then phone number picker is super limited. No filtering by numbers as competitive apps like Sideline offer. Then they make you pay/start a subscription to even see the app, after you’ve registered. I’m done. Thanks for wasting my time.

### 5/5 — Game changer for our business

*2020-11-27, version 2.1.28*

String has proved to be something of a game changer for our business. We have used other enterprise-based texting apps, and they were filled with errors, hidden fees, cumbersome to use, and functionality that seemed out of place and not useful for most day-to-day interactions with customers.

String has been a breath of fresh air. The cost is extremely reasonable, in fact we are paying multiples less than we did previously. In addition we are getting a better service, as measured not just by ease-of-use provide a more important metric of customer engagement.

Any business small medium or large that is looking to interact with their customers in a faster, friendlier and more customer focused manner should strongly consider signing up for String. It’s perhaps our most important app for making sales, increasing our sales, improving our customer engagement, and improving our brand image. We give it a very enthusiastic five stars.

### 5/5 — Such a cool idea!

*2020-04-02, version 2.1.18*

String is the product I never knew I needed, but now I can’t imagine life without it. It brings all of the organization of email to your phone number which has been so so helpful. Excited to see it continue to grow!

### 5/5 — Better than advertised!

*2020-04-02, version 2.1.18*

The boosts are awesome! I can’t believe I used to do all of this manually. Makes staying in touch with my clients infinitely easier, and I love the missed call auto replies. Can’t recommend it enough!

### 5/5 — Use it all the time

*2020-03-23, version 2.1.17*

I tried String out for a week with a few clients and fell in love with it. I particularly enjoy using the iOS app. It is so easy to use and really helped me get through my messages & calls quickly and efficiently. Customer support has been super responsive anytime I request assistance.

### 5/5 — Extremely Helpful!

*2019-12-10, version 2.1.11*

I have really enjoyed my String service because it allows effortless communication between my clients who like to text without giving them my personal cell phone or having two separate phones. Now I immediately know if it’s a client texting me, and I can even set up auto responses if they call my String number. This is a great tool for small business owners who are on the go, travel and/or don’t have an actual office. Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Great app, great team

*2019-11-25, version 2.1.10*

String is perfect for helping me run my business. I do work in a lot of areas and String has kept me more organized and responsive than ever. Not to mention their customer service is friendly, helpful & responsive, they really listen and care. Excited to see what's in store!

### 5/5 — Game Changer

*2019-11-15, version 2.1.9*

It’s crazy that we have so many ways to manage our email inboxes but no good way to manage text inboxes. String changes the game entirely. I love how I can tag contacts and sort my texts by the things that matter - the people I need to follow up with, the people who are my friends vs coworkers vs random people vs promotions. Being able to automate messages is huge too - it removes this massive stress of worrying that I’m not being responsive enough. You can run an entire business on String like I’m doing, or you can “just” bring sanity to your text inbox. This is one of the few apps I truly can’t live without.

### 5/5 — How do you String?

*2019-11-13, version 2.1.8*

String has helped me manage my day, increased my productivity and reduced my distractions. For starters, I'm self employed with several small businesses. Everything runs through me before it goes to the next person/employee. Often times the next person is me because I'm too worried about letting other people answer questions for me. I'm all about quality control and being in control of my day. In today's world those little red dots, push notifications and continuous dings, ping and email swoosh sounds are about as constant as those annoying ex's - they never stop! In all seriousness though String has literally eliminated many of my headaches, reduced my interruptions and increased my productivity almost overnight. Here's how I did it.... Before I met string I was running all of my businesses through auto attendant phone line app that was not String which I still use but now they're modified to work in conjunction with how I want String to work. Customers call in and the extensions make my business sound professional and bigger than they are. Press 1 for sales, 2 for accounting... you get the idea. All of that is great for perception and professionalism but at the end of the day and throughout the day all of those extensions were going to my personal cell phone and would come in as a forwarded call. As you can probably imagine that was getting overwhelming. I now forward all of those extensions to my String app. String can handle it all like a boss while I continue to be the boss. No more juggling phone calls, putting people on hold and trying to text one person while talking to another. Nope, String handles that for me. String can even reply to questions my customers ask via text and the best part about that goes right back to what I said earlier about not wanting to let other people answer questions for me - String gets the questions right every time because I wrote the memo. No matter how many people call in throughout the day or call in at the same time I'm covered. So how did I do it? Super simple but it did take some time to dial it in. Input = Output. I imported all of my customers, separated them into lists, created templates, added some away messages, missed call responses and presto! Once that was done I added a lot of keyword responses. Like a lot a lot of keywords. It's epic! Ring ring.... Auto attendant answers, customer has options for me or my voicemail. If they choose me it goes to my String app which I purposely have set not to ring through because I want String to work for me. String will then text my callers regardless of if they leave a message or not and engage them to start texting. If they text me instead of calling String is right there to text them back. From there String engages the customer with questions, offers links to my products, website and much more. String also addresses my customers by first name if I want and comes with endless list making capabilities, customer tagging and custom responses for each area of my businesses. Wrapping it up on this review.... Tonight was the first night I had dinner with the family without any interruptions at all. Phone on silent with String doing its thing while I did mine. After dinner I was amazed to see some of the missed conversations on my phone at which point I followed up as the real me and completed the conversation and closed more deals.
