### 5/5 — Nice

*2014-04-04, version 2.10*

Great for altered tuning, you can work out normal chords both ways with a new tuning. Recommended.

### 5/5 — Producer likey

*2014-01-27, version 2.10*

I write music with several different instruments, and this app helps me quickly identify chords and tempo when I want to write lead sheets or whatever... It's great.

### 5/5 — Complete

*2013-09-07, version 2.04*

In one word complete for practice and study.

### 5/5 — An absolute gem

*2013-07-15, version 2.04*

I started playing guitar 30 years ago and want to really refocus on it again.

This app does so much so well. It's a great chord finder. It's a great scale finder for any key. But The system is so well integrated to help any aspiring guitarist understand chords (harmony) and how they relate to scales ( melody). This is further developed in the excellent Songwriter mode which shows which chords work best for a certain key......and then suggests the best chord options as you map out your ideas.

I really recommend this for all guitarists who want a resource that will help get them to the next level. Well done to the developers. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Cool

*2013-05-07, version 2.03*

Awesome

### 5/5 — Great

*2013-05-05, version 2.03*

I found this app very useful in helping me learn the cords on my guitar. I would highly recommend this app.

### 5/5 — Indispensable app for any guitar student

*2013-04-25, version 2.03*

This is the best guitar scale & chord reference app I've found, and believe me I've tried a few!

Great for beginners and useful for advancing guitarists as a quick reference guide.

Chords, scales, modes, inversions, a chord calculator, this app has everything you need. The songwriter feature is great for trying out chord progressions during those moments when inspiration strikes and you don't have a guitar to hand.

The developer is super responsive, I suggested a potential new feature and lo, it was in the next release.
Talking of releases, the app is regularly updated and is constantly improving.

If I could give it 6 stars I would!

### 5/5 — This is awesome!

*2013-03-31, version 2.02*

This was a good app, though the new version is a huge improvement. Its slick, looks great and is fantastic to use. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — This is the ticket!!!

*2013-03-20, version 2.01*

This app has been updated and is even better than before. A must have app for the guitar player

This seems to be one very well thought out app for the new and seasoned guitarist . Lots of useful functionality in one VERY visual package. Being a Lefty I appreciate the setting to change the fretboard to my natural inclination. Too many other goodies to go into detail but suffice to say I would highly recommend .
Cheers to the developer's of this great app!

### 5/5 — Stringmaster

*2013-03-16, version 2.01*

Love it. Great for any level of player. Lots of fretted instruments supported. Converts my guitar knowledge easily to mandolin and banjo!!

### 5/5 — 5 star app

*2013-03-05, version 2.0*

This is definitely the best guitar app in the market. Everything has been well thought out and easy to use. An absolute must to all guitar lovers and artists with great composing ideas!

### 4/5 — Excellent

*2012-11-21, version 1.22*

Very useful tool, particularly when starting out learning chords and chord structure.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Distorted audio

*2015-07-23, version 2.55*

Audio distorts on IPad mini retina making app useless. No response from support

### 1/5 — What happened?

*2014-08-05, version 2.50*

I got this app about a year ago and was really impressed with it at that time. It use to work great and would have recommended it to any one interested. However about a month ago it was updated and since then I can't even get it to load. Totally worthless. I'm looking to replace it now with something that at least works.

### 1/5 — The New Version Is Terrible!

*2014-08-03, version 2.50*

I downloaded the new version and now the app won't open but crashes EVERY time. I went to the website to get the Manual for support and that won't even download.

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2014-08-03, version 2.50*

Won't even load. Waste of time.

### 2/5 — Great idea but fell short. Bad app design.

*2012-04-02, version 1.0*

I had high hopes for the app when I purchased it, but it slowly turned into another app that I will not use. The first thing I noticed was that when selecting Song Writing it takes 4 seconds for app to respond. It takes 5 seconds for Compare to start. During these wait times the app does nothing, so its frustrating. Somebody needs to write some better code, if this app is going to hang with the other guitar apps. The sounds are another issue, not very realistic. The visual layout needs to be improved also, artistically its lacking. Sure it works, but it's sour eye candy. Guitar Toolkit has set the bar pretty high and this app should try to learn from them.

### 3/5 — MIDI not working properly

*2014-04-15, version 2.20*

I love this app; been using it for quite some time.
However, with this new upgrade, they have destroyed much of the functionality of MIDI.
If this can be corrected, it will be deserving of 5 stars.

### 3/5 — Not great

*2012-05-12, version 1.1*

The website said that the songwriter 'is a tool to allow you to explore scales and the chords that go together in those scales'. What it does is list the notes in a scale. The scales are not demonstrated on the fretboard, only the chord that you choose is shown on the fretboard. I would not have purchased this app if i had known. Misleading and kind of pointless if you can't see the relationship between chord and scale. There are better apps. Maybe this app will be updated in the future.

### 4/5 — Gr8 practice App!

*2015-04-16, version 2.55*

I like the ascending and descending scales with the sound tracking.Useful chord progression section. Tone on some of the instruments not quite organic.Looking forward to next rev. Thanks, keep up the good work.
Thanks

### 4/5 — Great!

*2013-05-06, version 2.03*

This app works as promised and has so many features. Would love to see violin added.

### 4/5 — Useful app for teaching/learning guitar, but..

*2013-05-06, version 2.03*

Still a bit buggy - occasional random crashes, a bit slow on loading things. I'll give the 5th star when these things are fixed.

It would be nice to be able to enter and save user scales/chords, including fingerings etc.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best guitar app

*2020-09-22, version 3.1*

Complete practice tool for guitar

### 5/5 — Best of its kind!

*2018-06-23, version 3.02*

I have had this app on an Ipad2 for several years, and have never had ANY problems with it! I've seen other reviews that state they have issues with it loading, crashing, etc... That is sad because EVERY guitar player needs this whether beginner or pro alike... One of the BEST, if not THE best apps out there of its kind! I go to it nearly every practice session to help refresh my memory about....whatever! After 40+ years of guitar playing, this app keeps proving to me that I have just scratched the surface!!! If only this was available to me 40 years ago...there are thousands of chord shapes on a guitar neck, and there's nothing like the feeling of finding an interesting new chord shape that you will continually use from then on...they are ALL here!
I consider myself a somewhat advanced guitar player... And I don't know about any of you all, but I still need all the help I can get!
GET THIS APP!!!
USE IT!!!
It will become obvious in your playing...
On a post script:
The tuner, in my opinion, leaves something to be desired... Best one I have found is Guitar Tuna... and I think I have tried them all... unless of course, you have a Peterson Strobe in your kit...

### 5/5 — Excellent in all areas

*2016-10-03, version 2.62*

The app is easy to use, expands my view of scales and cord structure. Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Outstanding app

*2016-08-24, version 2.62*

I have had many guitar apps this is the one I use most, in fact I have dumped my other apps
It will do left handed and perfect 4th tuning ( or any tuning) it's excellent for modes and scale learning, it will show a C major scale across the fretboard for example then I take a screen shot and print out the scale (after editing screenshot on iPad),there are many other features , also contacting the programmer was very helpful

### 5/5 — An excellent app

*2016-07-27, version 2.62*

I've always found the app to be very helpful in working out chords I've heard others play. It's also great at working out chords for myself.

### 5/5 — The Best

*2015-11-12, version 2.55*

Have looked at many others, but this is my favorite go-2 app for guitar. Has a lot of the basic features plus some good extras.

### 5/5 — Tough to Live Without...

*2015-10-24, version 2.55*

I've really gotten to think I just might as well keep this app running in the background I use it so much! It is a great app and I would like to recommend it to everyone. If you are a beginner guitar player, there is a game on here where you play against your own time to identify notes on the fingerboard. Play for a while and all of a sudden, you start to know the notes on the fingerboard, something that you really need to do, also there is something on this that's called Chord Detective where you can put in the chord fingering and it will tell you what chord you put it. You can also choose a chord, any chord and this will tell you what the fingering is. I mean this is a great app, these are just a couple of the things it will do, there are many more. I've run out of room so I have to go but get this app, you will never regret it!

### 5/5 — Intshontsho

*2015-06-22, version 2.55*

Seems to be a very comprehensive app with lots of tools for guitarists. Have yet to work out how to use all but even just the chords are a good resource tool.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2014-08-27, version 2.51*

It is my go to guitar app. At present I am messing about in open G and wondered what chords I am playing - StringMaster will tell me. And when I need to check the scales - they are all there.
The app is well designed and easy to use. I recommend it.

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2014-04-15*

Packed with features, excellent interface, plenty of guidance on how to use features. Flexible and informative for beginners thru to pro level players. Invaluable.
