## What is Striprate?

Striprate is an offline pool and spa test-strip companion for fast pH, free chlorine, and total alkalinity checks.

Dip a compatible generic three-pad strip, frame the pads inside the on-screen guide, and tap Read. Striprate samples pad colors on device, matches them to bundled chart values, and creates water-care estimates scaled to the pool volume and targets you enter. Manual entry is available when lighting or camera conditions are not suitable.

WHAT STRIPRATE DOES

- Reads compatible generic three-pad pH, free chlorine, and total alkalinity strips
- Samples each pad color from the live camera frame on device
- Includes manual entry and a built-in sample reading
- Matches bundled values for pH 6.2-8.0, free chlorine 0-10 ppm, and total alkalinity 0-240 ppm
- Scales displayed adjustment estimates to the pool volume and targets you enter
- Supports freshwater pools, saltwater pools, and spas
- Lets you override a pad value when the printed strip chart differs
- Logs readings with dates, color swatches, notes, and review context
- Shows pH, free chlorine, and total alkalinity trends
- Exports the local reading log as CSV
- Includes sequencing, retest planning, confidence notes, and a water-balance workspace
- Adds Reading Review for recording sample source, preserving retest notes, and sharing a concise handoff
- Links directly to current CDC home pool testing guidance and the Model Aquatic Health Code

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Striprate has no account, no analytics, no tracking, and no developer backend. The camera is used only to sample the three strip pads. Frames are processed live on the device and are not stored or uploaded. Reading history and preferences remain in local app storage unless you choose to export or share them.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Displayed values and adjustment amounts are general estimates, not a substitute for the strip or chemical product label, local requirements, or professional water testing. Confirm compatibility and concentration, add chemicals gradually, never mix products, circulate as directed, and retest before another adjustment.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5 — 2026-08-14

Reading Review — Keep sample source and retest notes together in a concise, shareable handoff.

Sources & Safety — Open current CDC home pool testing guidance and the Model Aquatic Health Code directly from Settings.

Camera reliability — Updated camera rotation handling and corrected torch-off behavior for modern iOS releases.

Submission polish — Refreshed screenshots and metadata now show the current app flow.

### 1.3 — 2026-06-30

Retest Plan now appears after every result with a next test window, priority reagent, confidence notes, and follow-up steps.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-23

What's New in Striprate 1.2

Pool type - Freshwater, Saltwater, and Spa - A new Pool Type setting in Settings lets you tell Striprate what kind of water you're working with. Saltwater (SWG) pools get a reminder to check salt cell output before adding supplemental chlorine. Spas and hot tubs automatically switch to the CDC-recommended 3-5 ppm Free Chlorine range (vs. 1-3 ppm for a regular pool), so the status indicators and dose recommendations are calibrated for your specific water body, not just a generic pool. Changing Pool Type also resets the targets to the correct defaults automatically.

Export test log as CSV - Tap the share button in the Log tab to export your entire reading history as a comma-separated CSV file. The export includes date, pool gallons, pool type, pH, Free Chlorine, Total Alkalinity, status labels, average confidence, and notes - ready to attach to an email, open in Numbers or Excel, or send to your pool service.

Metric units now actually work - The "Show metric units" toggle in Settings previously changed the label but left doses in US units. It now converts every dose to metric: fluid volumes become mL / L, and dry weights become g / kg. Amounts are automatically scaled to the most readable unit (e.g. "237 mL" rather than "0.237 L").

### 1.1 — 2026-06-16

What's New in Striprate 1.1

Trends tab — See pH, Free Chlorine, and Total Alkalinity plotted over your last 30 readings. An ideal-range band highlights drift at a glance, and a Rising / Falling / Stable label tells you where each parameter is heading before it leaves safe territory.

Add This First — After a scan, tap "Add This First" to get an ordered action plan for your chemicals. Striprate sequences adjustments in the correct Pool & Hot Tub Alliance order (Total Alkalinity → pH → Chlorine) and tells you exactly how long to wait with the pump running between each addition so the chemistry actually holds.

Water Balance Score (LSI) — Tap "Balance Score" on any result to compute a Langelier Saturation Index from your strip reading plus a water-temperature slider and calcium-hardness input. Scores outside ±0.30 indicate water that is eroding your plaster or depositing scale — a pro indicator that no basic strip reader shows.

Liquid chlorine preference now works — The "Prefer liquid chlorine" setting in Settings now correctly changes the dose recommendation from granular cal hypo to 10% liquid sodium hypochlorite and recalculates the amount in fluid ounces.
