## What is Strobe Light?

LightUP is a strobe you can set exactly. Screen and camera torch flash together, from one slow beacon a second up to 30 flashes per second — and you choose the rate, rather than picking from a handful of speeds.

Everything runs on your phone. No account, no sign-up, nothing uploaded, no network at all.

SET THE RATE, EXACTLY

A big dial shows the flash rate in Hz and in flashes per minute. Drag it, nudge it in fine steps, or tap the tempo out and LightUP matches the beat.

Flash width controls how long each flash stays lit — short and sharp for a hard club strobe, wide and soft for a gentle pulse.

Presets cover the usual jobs: a dance-floor pulse, a slow beacon for being seen, a fast blue police flash, an amber hazard blink, and a soft candle flicker.

TACHOMETER: MEASURE HOW FAST SOMETHING SPINS

Light a spinning fan, wheel, motor or drone propeller and raise the rate slowly. When the flash rate matches the rotation, the object appears to stand still. LightUP converts that into RPM, and lets you set the blade count so a three-blade fan is not reported at three times its real speed.

It also shows the harmonics — the whole multiples where the object looks equally frozen — because hiding that ambiguity would be a comfortable lie. Start slow; the first rate where it freezes is the true speed.

FLASHING LIGHT SAFETY, TAKEN SERIOUSLY

Flashing light can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy, including people who have never had one and do not know they are susceptible. LightUP is built around that rather than burying it in a disclaimer:

- It starts at 2 Hz, never at a fast rate.
- The 15–25 Hz band, where reactions are most commonly provoked, is marked in orange on the dial, and the readout turns orange inside it.
- A plain warning appears before the first flash of every session, not once ever — the person holding the phone may not be the one who read it.
- While it runs, the entire screen is the stop button. Hunting for a small control in a flashing room is exactly when you need it to stop instantly.

Please do not point a strobe at anyone who has not agreed to it, at drivers, at cyclists, or into a crowd.

WHAT YOU GET FREE

- Colour strobe: amber, red, blue, green and magenta
- Flash width control for sharper or softer pulses
- The police, warning and candle presets

HONEST LIMITS

The camera LED cannot physically switch faster than about 10 times a second. Above that the screen carries the strobe alone, and LightUP says so instead of pretending the torch keeps up. Long sessions make the phone warm — that is the LED, and it is normal.

The tachometer is a genuine stroboscopic measurement, but it is only as good as your eye and a steady hand. It is a field reading, not a calibrated laboratory instrument.

PRIVACY

No account, no analytics, no network access whatsoever. Camera permission is used for one thing only: switching the torch LED on and off. The app never opens the camera, never previews, and never records.
